I'll start off by saying that the iPhone 4 is the sexiest device I have ever seen. The incredible display, amazing build quality, and the new features of iOS4 make it a very appealing phone. But nobody can deny the unique features of Android that make it at least a viable option.

I'd love to upgrade to the iPhone4 because of the new hardware, software, and features, but Android has many awesome features (Google Voice, Navigation, Goggles, etc.) that make it extremely appealing.

What is keeping you from switching you to Android? I know this is an Apple forum, but please try to avoid giving blind, fanboy opinions.:D

why are you basing your decision on what to buy on what a bunch of people you don't know have to say? if you're going to an apple forum to be "convinced" to stay with an iphone then A) you are simple minded and apparently will follow the masses off a cliff if that is what they decide to do, B) you don't have friends opinions that you value (seek new friends) C) don't really need convincing and just wanted to be like so many others and start a new thread. d) all of the above.

Go for the android, that way we have one more iPhone available for pre-orders.

Thanks

Why don't I want an Android phone? Because Android is for porn and I am just not that into porn.

Seriously, the Androids are coming out fast and fierce so what I got would be out of date quickly, the apps can be good and they can be bad (the flip sides of opening them up to anyone basically who wants to submit one). Some of the phones are better made than others as well, and the better made phones are wildly expensive (i.e. Nexus One is $529 whether you have the service that goes with it or not).

iPhone is so well made and the apps are very carefully vetted before you get them, the company stands behind its product and it's very well thought out in general. Beside, the price didn't go up this year but the features increased to a very impressing degree. To me it's not much of a choice.

You guys really are a sensitive bunch.

I like the iPhone. I also like Android. What is so hard about telling me what you like about the iPhone? I'm tryng to make a decision with my purchase, not try to bad mouth the iPhone. Some of you are just ridiculous.

Is it really so hard to make a list of what you think the iPhone does better?

No, not if we're making the list for ourselves, we know what we like in a smartphone. We have no idea what you want or value in a smartphone, so how in the world can we "convince" you to get an iPhone? If you wanted another iPhone vs Android thread, you should have just named it that.

Also, which Android phone are you looking at? There are a billion variations on each carrier. This isn't a simple one to one comparison. If you're talking about the top of the line ANdroid handhelds, even then it's not a one to one because of Android's platform fragmentation.

Again, I do like the iPhone, I'm just trying to learn more about which the better product is.

Or do you think I should just make the purchase without doing any research whatsoever?
You should do as much research as you can, ON YOUR OWN. In all honesty, we don't give a flying **** if you get one or not, and we also have to make the decision OURSELVES by reading thread after thread on stuff from how much we will end up paying down to which color we should get (been reading these threads for the last 2 days and still don't know, but you don't see me making a thread saying "Convince me to get a black iPhone 4"). I suggest you do the same (suggest you hit up a few Android forums also).

Plus, if it helps, there are seems to be at least one thread a week with the "Convince me" title and by now people automatically assume that the OP is someone who thinks they're important enough to skip finding their own information and instead start threads with people doing all of the hard work of convincing the OP to buy a phone. Would of really helped if you didn't put the "Convince me" part in the title.

Two main reasons and a bunch of little ones:

1) platform fragmentation. Google argue this is more the software evolving quickly but whatever you call it I can't justify investing a lot of time and money, not to mention a 24 month contract, on a device that may never receive updates or may have to wait months especially when said update fixes serious issues the way 2.2 improves system lag.

2) batery life. Sorry but I want my phone to last a reasonable amount of time and not have to resort to a task manager to do this. Looking at reports of the Evo it seems android still can't manage this.

Little reasons: hardware that always has a fatal flaw IMO, inconsistent ui design, no media sync and dependence on google services top the list.

Except they decided not to release it on Verizon or Sprint and recommended people who were interested in it to buy a different phone.

Maybe the Nexus Two will fix that.
Google wanted a reference phone, something that they can tinker on their own with their own software without any interference from the carriers. I doubt Verizon and Sprint would agree to that as they like to make their phones theirs by plastering their logos all over their phones and putting their own software. The announcement of Nexus One on Verizon/Sprint was just a PR stunt to keep people waiting until HTC caught up with the Incredible/Evo. ;)

That's a good point, didn't even think about consumers feeling betrayed with a new better phone coming out a few months after they buy one. I don't know what Google could do about that since it's the manufacturers choosing to release them whenever they want.

why should consumers feel betrayed? Its no different than buying a computer or tv that 6 months later is replaced by a better model. android phones aren't being released every few months either.

Here is the list...

Apps

Android does everything else much better. Look at it this way. The iPhone couldnt even do things as simple as MMS and copy/paste without a jailbreak up until last year. Something that just about every other phone has been able to for what? 5-6 years now. Same goes with multitasking and notifications. Android does it far better and has been doing it from day 1. You really want to buy a phone thats going to be years behind in technology because it has an Apple logo on it?

I think what irks people most about these "convince me" threads is that you expect everyone else to do the hard work, while you (apparently) sit back and wait for the answers to roll in. I'm sure that's not how you intended to come across, but that's how it seems (to me at least - I can't speak for the others.)

Maybe go do some original research first, then post and extensive list of comparative features for us all to look at. We'll appreciate it if you bring something to the party - and you'll find others follow your example and happily volunteer their technical opinions (which is what you want, right?)

Betrayed more than you would if you bought an iPhone. Everyone knows a new phone comes out every year at WWDC.

i have a nexus one with t-mo.
3G network better than ATT
the same/better plan is 25$ cheaper than ATT
I like to customize my phone screen.
external battery
Im going to upgrade to the Galaxy S in July when it goes to T-mo.

I don't see the advantage iphone4 has over the newest phones.

Actually I am thinking of getting Blackberry Bold 9700 as it sounds like a choice for MY needs; but my wife is upgrading her 3GS to 4. ;-)

What criteria are you using to say T-mo's 3g network is better than at&t's? My 3g experience with at&t is top notch 100% dead balls on, I have no complaints.

Same/better plan? so you pay $5 for unlimited data? If you do that's cool and I'm happy for you.

I like to customize my phone screen to, and I do it all I want!

No need for an external battery
There is no advantage for you but of course the world doesn't revolve around you. I'm glad you're happy with your phone choice, that however doesn't make that choice "better" than any other.
