There was a 20th Anniversary Mac new-in-box for sale on ebay a few years ago , it went for a few grand I think.

I have to wonder if collecting computers will ever graduate from being an odd, quirky hobby to something more like baseball cards and stamps.

I don't think of it as odd and quirky but rather a hobby that preserves how rapily the world of technology is changing around us :D

I sure hope so. Because everyone has given up on me for this one. No one gets it. They just like giving me stuff because they know I'll freak to get any old mac for free.

It gets to the point where you cant inventory all your parts machines in your head. I can recite all working ones by heart. But some days I say, "do I have 5 wallstreets or 7" I know I have the 2 a 233 and a 300 PDQ that work. I'll have to count again when I get home. My eventual goal is to have every mac ever made. Broken or not. Many have tried, all have gone mad or failed. No one has ever hit that goal.

And I doubt someone will reach that goal unless they have thousands of dollars to spend everytime a new machine comes out:D

Well, the iMac arrived today and it was indeed as advertised. Here are a couple of pics of before and after opening up the box. It booted straight up into OS 9 when it was first powered on just like it was 2001 all over again. So far it's working just fine. :)

I just don't see how someone could purchase a mac and never use it...let alone never open it:D

Thats not how you do it. You just wait around and bide your time. I probably have at least broken even so far, and I have a lot to show for it. Anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

According to Mactracker there are currently 465 different models to collect, a lot more if you count differnt processor speeds within a model generation as seperate machines for collection purposes.

Not impossible to do, but then nothing is impossible, just varying degrees of improbable.
