Core 2 Duo MacBooks Announced

This product release is a major one for Apple. This is the chip they have been waiting for for laptops since it has real-time temperature control and 64 bit. Yonah was a stop-gap.

This is a product with legs. If it can demonstrate quality as well as features we will have yet another "great" Mac.

By any historical standards this price is really low. Not as low as commodity PCs of course, but "too" low for a quality Mac that can run EVERY OS SIMULTANEOUSLY!

We will be buying several over the next 6 months. Two PC oriented employees are getting them from us and two linux fixated souls are about to be brought into the 21st century kicking and screaming :)

I bet it has 802.11n!

I'd say you might be on to something... But there has not been a press release for an updated mini. I just checked on MSNBC... :(

Would that 'everything' also include mac pro?

It just makes no sense in that context.

so there is a $75 difference between the 1.83ghz macbook upgraded to 1gb of ram and an 80gb HD ($1224) and the $1299 macbook.

And, on a side note, my dream blackbook with 2gb of ram and a 160gb hd is now $1774

US Educational Store just went back up.

$1049 - 1.83 GHz
$1199 - 2.00 GHz
$1399 - 2.00 GHz (BlackBook)

Price for upgraded low-end model to meet midrange specs (Minus SuperDrive)
$1162

Might as well pay for the midrange model.

For those that have not placed orders yet, notice whether you choose ground or 2-3 day shipping ... your delivery date is still Nov. 14 - 21. This indicates to me that these notebooks will be shipping from China, not through local Apple shipping outlets. Don't waste your money on the expedited shipping. Like every other Apple announcement, I would expect all orders will ship via FedEx IP Direct Distribution, despite which method you choose.

hmm, so i guess there will still be a $100 buffer between the 2

apple didnt change the price at all, only upped the specs like they did the pro. i couldnt care less about C2D, but what i am sort of annoyed about is the sudden jump in base spec for the higher end line, such as the stock 1GB, and for the black model the 120GB hard drive and the option of the 200GB. eh, no big deal i guess. one day ill upgrade to a pro anyhow and my blackbook will be a hand-me-down. it seems though that apple didnt up the RAM support like they did to the pro, which is ok i guess since not many people actually need 2GB let alone 3GB of RAM. Im sure many glossy display haters wouldve loved to see the matte display as an option, but not yet i suppose. anyway, it doesnt seem like much is changed except for the processor. considering that everything else pretty much stays the same, now we'll just have to complain that macbooks dont hover over the desk.

what are u talking about? iLife comes with all Macs

That's what I thought, but just the other day I priced out a Macbook Pro for myself on the Apple site and iLife preinstalled was a $79 option. Maybe I was mistaken and it was iWork???

edit: Sorry, it was iWork. I feel dumb. :)
