If you use a pair of pliers, make sure you cover both front and back of that dent with something like a thick felt cloth. So when you squeeze it doesnt gouge the aluminum. And try to only put pressure on the very edge and pull softly up as to try and save the screen.

No guarantees though. Its hard with only seeing pics and not being there.

Good luck

Dude - you are going to mess up ur MBP even more

Dont do the pliers thing. It will be much worse.

Get her to cough up $200. Emotional distress.

Then do the hammer method, using 2 THICK towels, spend 15 minutes gently bumping with light pressure the bezel back into shape.

I think thats ur best bet. Ebay - forget it, you will loose 350 or so, reduced sale price and ebay fees etc.

What kind of dufus is that girl, cant pick up a expensive and personal machine??

You could always try and have her insurance pay for it. Liability for this (I can't remember the name in english, something along the lines of Third Party Liability) is most likely included with her home/apartment insurance.
As it's an accident and you are a third party to her it should work. I have done it countless times in Europe.

Something that might work as a fix for this and would probably be the least destructive of the repair suggestions on here (ie, pliers, hammer) would be to place some like a folded paper towel (or paper or card stock, etc.) on the top corner of the MacBook Pro (beneath the bent screen corner) and then close the lid. Try to keep the paper so it's only below the aluminum of the lid if possible.

This may have to be repeated a couple of times with increasing thicknesses until it forces the corner back in place. Just be careful, go slowly and if there feels like there is too much resistance then use something a little bit thinner.

If she is willing to pay $600 and you can get a new for only $100 (never heard of such a great discount, but I guess anything's possible).

Then why not take $600 from her and give her the laptop in exchange. At least that way she at least has a nice laptop regardless of the dent.:)

He was saying he could sell that one on eBay for 1100 and just pay an extra 100 and get a brand new one with edu discount. I think he doesn't want to make the girl pay 600 dollars to get the mbp fixed and personally I don't blame him

1. Fix it with pliers.
2. Tell her you paid apple to fix it for $600 or whatever.
3. She will sleep with you
4. Come back here and tell us about it.

Love this...I'm gonna try it...by the way to everyone else....this girl will sleep with you and I if I stop telling her how much of a @#$%(*$)#_@ she is daily...thanks guys I will let you know how this and the "other" thing goes ;)

ok how about this resolution. you try the ebay route, and if you get a reasonable price for it, tell the girl to pay the difference you will need to get a new one. sound good? sounds pretty good to me IMO.

heat also helps and bending things so apply moderate heat if you are going to do the "operation" but its pretty scary lol what about the screen dont want to cause more damage.

Don't charge her money. Using 'guilt' may be the only method you have to score with a girl.

Uh.....try the "close" the lid method. Remember that aluminium is one of the softest and most malleable metals on Earth. It sucks because it dents so easily, but it also means you'll be able to fix it, unlike plastic or carbon fibre.

Don't use heat. It is unnecessary because aluminum is soft to begin with. Also, there is rubber around the edge of the screen that is just going to melt. It is a silly suggestion from somebody who doesn't know what they are talking about.

page 2, and still no pics of said girl?

So....i tried it for about an half an hour....it didnt work :( ohh well...i will either learn to love it or I will sell it and buy me a new one and kick her far away from my apt. Thanks for all of the replies guys

I understand, this sort of things are really annoying... But don't forget you've just got this mac, and I truly think you won't think about it after a while, it's just about getting used to it !

Also I know Apple doesn't make separate parts for the screen (ie alu cover, screen, junction, plastic, maybe except glass, etc..), it's the whole part or nothing...

I would not try to force the edge, but maybe try file it with a lime to make it not scratch anymore.

Good luck.

⬆⬆ Did you try that? ⬆⬆
Your best bet IMHO

I stand corrected. Now his post makes more sense now. :)

If she's hot. Tell her it's OK if she "blows" some things. If you catch ma drift.

haha kidding. Pull out your pliers. <-- That's what she said.
