Let's see, you told me the EXACT same thing last January for the iPad and for the iPhone 4. So far, AT&T still remains exclusive on both. Verizon using the Mi-Fi changes nothing because that was something Sprint thought if first.

How were those crow plates so far?

I don't recall saying anything about the iPad being on Verizon. Can you show me where I said that? Also, unlike others, I've never said Verizon would get the iPhone by a particular date...unlike you where you are saying it will be years. (So that's at least 2 years from now...20

Edit: I did tell some friends it was coming...don't recall saying it on here. Difference is, I've learned to be careful about assuming things.....negative or positive.

Perhaps these discussions can be had when, oh...I dunno, when the mythical Verizon iPhone actually comes out?

I was mistaken, he's not a stockholder. And he seems to think that everyone that wants a Verizon iPhone is a whiner with no real reason. He fails to realize that he doesn't know everyone's situation. He seems to think he knows how better to make our wireless carrier and device decisions better than we do without knowing anything about us.

He also fails to recognize that it's not just 2 markets, it's the entire 3G coverage that's weak. Tried to use my iPhone to show somebody a YouTube video while at the lake. FAIL....Edge service. But my friend had a Verizon phone and made my iPhone look plain silly. Good enough reason to cancel my contract and get rid of the iPhone? No, but enough of a reason for me to strongly consider a Verizon iPhone if the alternative becomes available.

So yeah, I'm not whining, but I have legitimate beef with AT&T and would love to have another carrier option for the iPhone. Like it's already been said, it could only benefit the customers so why keep hating?

1. I never assume that. But I always like to ask the question. Why in the world would you buy a phone and a service with a company you know doesn't give good service in your area? WHY? Is it to mortify yourself? Is it to give yourself an aneurism with rage? What is it? Or is just the fact that you would like to brag about having an iPhone? The choice is simple, if AT&T doesn't work for you, don't get an iPhone.

2. I beg to differ, and so does the rest of the people who happen to enjoy great coverage and fast 3G speeds. I can call out users here in this very same place (MR) who report no problems with AT&T and 3G speeds of 3-4Mb/s. Can Verizon do that? Lol no.

3. You have a beef with AT&T when it's Apple who set the restriction. Go have a beef with them? Or you can't because you are too of a fanboy to go at it?

Let's see, you've been ranting on and on and on how Verizon is going this year get the iPhone. Yes, you never give an exact date, but you always say, it's coming this year. And year after year, I have proven you wrong. So yeah, you've been enjoying crow for quite a while I might add. Since 2008 I might say. Enjoy crow this year in January. Also, the whole January thing is for the iPad being officially supported under a CDMA standard, notice not for Verizon. It could well mean, supported for them and Sprint as well.

* = YMMV on coverage. Just because Sprint does not work in your home does not mean the entire company is crap and their coverage is crap across the nation.

Agreed, same thing for AT&T

Here in Los Angeles AT&T is simply outstanding! Full 3G coverage....
yet people will complain about AT&T...

Your argument ignores all the other possiblities. People move, change jobs, family members choose carriers for them, etc....

Let me clarify, the entire 3G coverage is SMALL. There are way too many areas where I'm stuck on Edge. I have family members that live outside of large metropolitan areas where Verizon consistently has EVDO service. Can AT&T do that? LOL no. Also, I've only seen 3Mbps speeds ONCE. I'm lucky to live in Dallas where speeds are consistently over 1 Mbps, but rarely 3 Mbps. And the reason I consider myself lucky is I recently travelled to Seatle....WOW....my iPhone was so slow it was almost unusable. So glad to hear they got LTE recently. A ton of AT&T users will be happy to get decent speeds.

3. You have a beef with AT&T when it's Apple who set the restriction. Go have a beef with them? Or you can't because you are too of a fanboy to go at it?
What? How is Apple responsible for AT&T's lousy 3G network rollout? My beef with AT&T was selling me a 3G phone (Samsung A747) while they had lousy 3G coverage (this includes voice). I constantly had dropped calls. Then after that the 3G iPhone....same situation. I actually missed my 30 day cancellation date because I thought the issue was my Samsung phone and that buying the iPhone 3G would resolve my reception issues....that was my mistake.

I'll say this, AT&T finally improved things a lot in Dallas and most of my complaints are no longer valid here. It's when I travel that I have issues, but I only travel 6-7x a year so I can deal with it.

Wrong, I never even said this year. And it can't be year after year, I just joined in the Verizon conversation here a few months ago. So no, I haven't had to eat crow yet because I made the mistake of telling some friends it was coming last year....since then I know better than to predict a date, let alone a year. Although the current round of rumors is much stronger than it's ever been. That and the iPad being sold at Verizon seem to indicate that it's more possible now that it has been since 2008.

1. When people change, you normally do research how your living conditions are changing. So, in that research cell coverage falls, it's your duty to check it.

2. Small? Really? It covers more than 90% of Americans. Now, if you want 3G coverage in the middle of nowhere or where cows are more numerous than people, yes Verizon wins. BTW, I was able to get 3G from New Orleans, LA all the way to Houston, TX nonstop. My friend on Verizon had several drops from EV-DO. Explain?

3. Apple is not. However, you are having a problem with the carrier, not the guy who makes the phone and signed a contract. If you want to demand more carrier options, go to Apple and demand them to open up the iPhone. AT&T does not make the iPhone, nor does it decide who carriers it, Apple does. This was not a difficult concept to take in, yet somehow you manages to miss it entirely.

4. So you are having a beef with AT&T when all your complains have been answered, curious.

5. That's what people said last time when the iPad and iPhone 4 where announce. Verizon rumors are strong and HUR DUR, Blah.... yet, they never materialized.

You really are thick. Yes, Sprint did it first but it was completely unofficial and had nothing to do with Apple. Sprint didn't even sell the actual iPad! In the case of Verizon, the iPad/Mifi combination IS AN OFFICIAL PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN VERIZON AND APPLE. Want proof? Here you go:

http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2010/10/14ipadverizon.html

We’re thrilled to be working with Verizon Wireless to get iPad into the hands of even more customers this holiday season,” said Tim Cook, Apple’s COO. “iPad allows users to connect with their apps and content in a more intimate, intuitive and fun way than ever before, and together with Verizon Wireless we’re offering an easy way to stay connected wherever you go.”

Straight from the horse's mouth. I couldn't spell it out for you more clearly. Apple is an official partner of Verizon and we are going to see a Verizon CDMA (or combo GSM/CDMA) iPhone by June/July 2011 the latest.

1. When people change, you normally do research how your living conditions are changing. So, in that research cell coverage falls, it's your duty to check it.

Wow, you just don't get it. Sometime people have no idea their situation will change, yet they are locked into a 2 year contract.

2. Small? Really? It covers more than 90% of Americans. Now, if you want 3G coverage in the middle of nowhere or where cows are more numerous than people, yes Verizon wins. Yes, small....look at the map. Over 90% of the population still fails to cover a lot of people I travel to visit for some reason. I guess I just have a lot of 10%'er friends/family? And I'm sure I could come up with even more examples of times where my AT&T dropped but Verizon didn't. It's all anecdotal and we could be here all day doing this. So instead, let's turn to news stories and polls across the nation that all agree AT&T is the weaker of the two.

3. Apple is not. However, you are having a problem with the carrier, not the guy who makes the phone and signed a contract. And somehow you seem to totally ignore that Apple did at AT AT&Ts DIRECTION. Apple doesn't do this just randomly on their own, the carrier agreements stipulate it. And even it it were open, I'd be stuck with a worse option...T-Mobile.

4. So you are having a beef with AT&T when all your complains have been answered, curious.

Yes, I have a long memory of how AT&T has treated me as a customer. And not all my issues have been resolved, namely being stuck on Edge in a lot of areas I like to travel. Oh, and Lake Travis isn't exactly in the middle of nowhere.

5. That's what people said last time when the iPad and iPhone 4 where announce. Verizon rumors are strong and HUR DUR, Blah.... yet, they never materialized.

Agreed, I was caught up in that one. However, you have to admit the rumors are even stronger this time. Could they still be wrong? Sure, but to say 100% that it isn't happening for 2 years is just ignorant; unless you're some AT&T, Apple, or Verizon exec and we just don't know it.

I'm just going to address this point because we can argue for ever and ever on the other points, and none of us will yield.

In any case, rumors we have are from analysts which are always wrong in EVERYTHING they expect, like a Verizon iPad.

Which is why a bunch of analysts saying it's coming this time doesn't mean squat. Now, if we find a prototype or some strong evidence like a string of code in a new Beta, then yes, I might be able or inclined to accept Verizon is getting it. So far, no.

Hahaha, I was about to say the same...I give.

But I do have to say...:)...don't we have a bit more than analysts word this time? These are no longer analyst rumors, but "sources" that supposedly are in the know. But they could still be nothing....but when multiple sources have been reporting the same thing since May.....I'm gonna pay attention.

Edit: same reports since March.

It still amazes me today that people don't just google something like this. Googling 'Verizon and Sprint comptability' comes back with an answer:

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Are_sprint_phones_compatible_with_verizon

Same applies to Verizon iPhone if/when it emerges

"Currently, if you want to activate a Verizon phone on the Sprint network or vice versa, it would have to be "cloned" and that is an illegal practice and if Sprint doesn't sell the phone, you can't clone it anyway cause there's no ESN to clone it to."

This is misleading. I've had a lot of experience in this area. Way back during the Treo era several people were talking Verizon into activating Sprint Treo's. There's no need to "flash an image" to the phone. However, there are parameters that have to be programmed in. Verizon typically did this OTA...but you had to make a change or 2 first to get the OTA programming working. And before that, you had to talk a Verizon CS agent to add the ESN to their database.

Depending on how accessible these settings are, it would potentially be easy to adjust the parameters to get the phone on Sprint. The issue has always been getting Sprint to add the ESN to their database which they have traditionally refused to do.

First of all, there isn't going to be a Verizon iPhone...

Now, if there isn't going to be a Verizon iPhone, why would you think about Sprint?

Gawd

Perhaps these discussions can be had when, oh...I dunno, when the mythical Verizon iPhone actually comes out?

There will be a Verizon iPhone, and we are going to settle this debate for the rest of the world right now!
