I have an iPhone X which I absolutely love and although the Notch is annoying and obtrusive - it is something I can live with.

However, I would of course prefer a notch-free iPhone.

Do you guys think there is a chance Apple could make a notch free X Plus?

Assuming it has a larger 6.5 screen, that would give it considerably more space on the phone and an ability to have a symmetrical screen like the S9+

Nope. Apple is not bringing back bezels.
I think it would look smarter with a small slimline bezel at the top - just enough to house the camera so that there is no notch.

Or do what LG does and allow you to drop the screen via software.

Are they going to be showing phones at WWDC next week?? Or are they just releasing them in the fall. Ive heard more news about the 2019 phones then ones that "should" be due out in 4 months

iPhones are usually not introduced on WWDC. Apple likes to have a dedicated presentation instead of using a developer conference for new phones.

They won’t be showing any of the iPhones besides maybe the iPhone se 2.

Why would you do that? Why would you make the screen deliberately smaller both physically and psychological? o_O

The screen would actually be bigger at 6.5 -

Either software like LG to drop the screen below the notch wouldn’t really lower the screen size by that much.

Yes it will be smaller than what you get with the notch. Why waste the space when it can be used to show notifications and status info?!

Of course the screen itself would be bigger, but by blacking out the notch the screen will look and feel considerably smaller.

It's not about how large the screen is. It has more to do with the amount of space between the edge of the screen and the edge of the body. Assuming they're still wanting an edge-to-edge screen, it would seem to me that the plus won't have any more space around the edges than the non-plus. It feels too soon to me for a redesign. So I expect the same sized notch.

To me, that is the better option - so Apple should let you choose like LG do on their phone ...

So much better for pictures and videos.

Donˋt zoom in then?o_O I mean the notch stays hidden unless you zoom in.
But then the screen is even smaller.

By zooming in and leaving out the notches - you get a bigger image without cutting out a section in the picture ...

What about the section of the picture you’re cutting off at the top and the bottom by zooming in?

Honestly, the only time I notice or even think about the notch is when I read yet another notch thread on these forums.
Such a non-issue.

Depends what you are watching whether I zoom in or not.

But when you do - rather not have the notch eat into the video.

Or when I’m looking at a picture.

It might be a non-issue for you but would be nice to have the option of dropping the screen.

The notch to me was a bad idea - it’s a shame because otherwise the X is brilliant.

Yeah but if I don’t zoom in at all it looks like an iPhone 8 has to big black bars. I want something that will to all the way up to the notch and all the way to bottom of the display.
There are aspect ratios to consider, otherwise you are losing some content.

The notch is here to stay for now inspite of all the negativity Perhsps down the line the technology for putting the sensors etc. under the screen will be available
More important is Apples slowdown in hardware change which people don’t like. Having the same design iPhone with better specs just isn’t going to cut it
With all the R&D that Apple does new and better iPhones should be coming out sooner

You cut out more by zooming in with majority (99%) of content.

Whether there was a notch or a bezel, you'd still have content cut off when 'zooming in'. It's how the X's resolution handles typical aspect ratios of video content....

The 6.1" (doubtful) & 6.5" may handle video better. We'll hopefully find out later in the year....

Yes you are cutting out some content but not as bad as a whole notch size chunk.

Plus, the video / image is this never symmetrical...

It's actually more content that's lost around the 4 edges when zooming, than the notch area.

You're just imagining more is lost behind the notch because of its indented design, when watching in cropped mode.

I'd love to zoom in, but the lost content on all sides is a turn off. If I could watch full screen, uncropped, then the notch would just disappear for me.

People making a big deal out of it, on a device that's not a proper resolution for most video aspect ratios.
