Correct, it is the portability factor with the Macbook Pro. But the Mac Pro tower is the Mac Truck semi of the Mac world. The Macbook Pro is like a Cadillac, it might not haul or last as long but it is fast and looks good when you are using it.

I was throwing around the idea of getting a Mac Mini and a portable monitor. It uses regular desktop computer chips, you can hookup on Thunderbolt 3 EGPU box and it is still portable with the built in graphics card to do basic things. And with Intel's new i7 processors with a better graphics chip on it. This could be a good alternative to a Macbook Pro or a Mac Pro with somone on a budget. Maybe Apple will come out with a Mac Mini Pro. I have already told Apple in feedback, i think they could have a market for such a machine.

Well, I am not sure about a Mac mini Pro. I suppose Apple has already put the most powerful processor the "mini" format can support, and I guess a dedicated video card would require a larger enclosure. In this sense, the Mac Pro is the "de facto" Mac mini Pro.

@SpeedyTheSnail

"I can get a better keyboard via USB and thus they should remove the keyboard from the laptops"

(sort of already did due to reliability of the Butterfly's - LOL)
Don't forget why have an external display when I can carry around a 40-in 4k display with me.

Would Apple allow the store to be open if a new mac is dropping today?
Ooooh don't worry, Apple will drop the Mac, but not in the way we want it.

USB-C Stick were at Apple Store 9 months ago, pretty sure Best Buy has them in stock as well. I have one Sandisk 64GB Ultra Dual Drive. I got mine through Amazon...hardly difficult to find or buy now.

There are a metric crap ton of devices using USB-C now, and you can buy a cable for nearly any legacy device sans a captive cable device to make it work with USB-C. Do you live in a remote area or something?

The 2015 has more ports, but it is not more expandable than the 2016-2019 MacBook Pro. I’ll take 4 Thunderbolt 3 ports any day that I can use as a USB port if I need to or use all 4x40Gbps ports connecting eGPUs, high speed NVMe storage, a Dock, 10GbE, you name it.

The 2016-2019 MacBook Pros are not turds and the 2012-2015 are not the legendary laptops everyone thinks they are, although I own two of them (2012,2015) and two 2016 models, both with their original keyboards.🤭 All of them have been great, bar a few video issues with the 2015 and a fake SATA issue with the 2012 user Apple Hardware Test. NONE of them have a keyboard for the ages, my Late 2011 actually is better in that regard.

If Apple adds HDMI and/or SD Card, so be it, but no more damn USB-A ports, not a single one. USB-A needs to stay gone for good and needs to disappear from iMacs and Mac mini’s sooner rather than later.

You mean the three prong extension cable? Yeah, come on Tim, nickels and dimes get really old after a while.
Wow your reply is extremely sad.

I wouldn't quote the Apple Store as a source of devices, most people don't have one and most people don't buy overpriced Apple Store products when something is cheaper elsewhere.

I have not been to a Best Buy where they sell USB-C sticks, nor a Micro-Center that sells one.

You keep arguing about USB-C using adapters, its' a stupid idea. People don't want adapters. I can find a normal USB device ANYWHERE, even in vending machines.

Remote area? I live in the capital of the United States moron. Insult me I'll insult you back. Mods can bite me if they find an issue with what I said.

The 2016-2019 MBPs are pieces of garbage, they thermal throttle far too quick and there is no point in having an external keyboard for a laptop nor waiting 4 weeks for a "warranty repair" for the most commonly used input device in the world.

Tim does nickel and dime on the cables, and you're absolutely right: It does get old after a while and not in the way blind Apple fanboys believe.

I disagree. They’re not prices of garbage. The 2016-2017 are. 2018-2019 is how they should’ve gotten it the first time. Time for something new though. For the same reason they abandoned the Trashcan Mac Pro.

This will never happen, but I think I would like a desktop machine that I can connect a laptop to with USB-C and then my laptop will offset the workload to that machine and I am apple to use the keyboard+monitor laptop and once I am done with the serious work I just disconnect it and use it as a portable device for less intensive tasks like browsing.

While an eGPU has similar idea, I believe its only for graphics parts and the CPU will still get hot.
