I just went through the various 15" configuration options and it appears that ONLY the 4TB model has a 3-4 week delay. Not sure what that tells us. My most optimistic scenario is that Apple is dropping the 4TB option on the 15" and offering it on the 16" instead.

The 3-4 week delay suggests Apple is no longer manufacturing 15-inch MacBook Pro. The assembly lines are in the process of conversion. The only stock that exists now is previously manufactured logic boards. 4TB chips are extremely price sensitive, so it makes sense Apple isn't keeping it in stock.

The delay was previously 5-6 weeks, then 4-5 weeks. Today, it's 3-4 weeks.

It's extremely unlikely Apple is facing any delays in getting 4TB flash. Rather, Apple is not stocking 4TB logic boards and are telling customers to wait 3-4 weeks.

Totally agree..

I wonder how long until Apple can do some type of wireless charging laptop and then we'll get the whole forum defending NO ports whatsoever...
No wireless charging, please. And no, gotta have at least the 4 TB3 ports and audio jack on the LEFT side. Could not care less about HDMI and SD Card. Just no more damn USB-A, period. EVER. And no more MagSafe, USB-C PD yes.

Names aside (pro doesn't mean anything anymore except higher specs), the machine you described want and need is a workstation laptop, like the Thinkpad P series or the HP ZBook workstations. They are designed to put performance over design and have adequate cooling and actual Xeon and Quadro graphics on a wide variety of screen sizes. They are also more affordable (meaning you can configure them from a lower price) than the Macbook Pro. So my question is, does your workflow require OS X? If it does, can it change? If it doesn't, why on earth would you choose a Macbook Pro over a machine actually designed to do what you need?

And of course you think what you got is right and then, oh i need to add that and ohh i need to add this and then you are over the price of a Macbook Pro that had this hardware originally built it. Seen that over the last 30 years. Oh i am saving money no i am not, i am just spreading the larger amount over more years. That is like the old days with cars. Everything was a option so the car would cost more once you added the things you wanted on it.

I would agree, Apple is trying to push back people from purchasing them because if they don't have a lot left and they don't want a lot of people to ordering them and then turn around in a week or two returning the purchase or canceling a order. Manufacturing lines have switched over so old Macbook Pro 15in getting low while the 16in is being stocked for shipment. That is why we are seeing the $300 off at Best Buy stores, which is kind of like a Apple store now they do service. Apple might even be giving Best Buy a break to help them move inventory on the remaining 15in Macbook Pro's so they can launch the new one soon.

Like I said the 15 is still a good deal if you get $300 off, it pretty much pays for Applecare and the machine is only 6 months old technology and still good and fast.

You mean the three prong extension cable? Yeah, come on Tim, nickels and dimes get really old after a while.

Yeah, I know it is technically an optional extension cable, but I feel it's an essential part of the power adaptor - and seriously, on a AUD $4000 computer how much would it eat into the margin to just include it?

I certainly like that mode of thinking, but the 2TB model is available for almost immediate delivery. Why isn't that one also back-ordered? I suppose it could be simply a supply issue, or maybe the 2TB is much more popular than the 4TB (pretty likely, actually) and therefore Apple built up a greater supply of the 2TB on purpose...

I certainly *hope* this is the case, but I'm trying not to read too much into it. Over previous model transitions, multiple configurations began to see longer lead times. In this case, it's just the largest storage configuration.

Also - the MBP has apparently not being selling to expectations all year, because Apple has routinely been discounting them pretty heavily. So I'm also not reading too much into the $300 Best Buy promotion.

Not sure, but our local best buy is down two only 2 macbook pro 15 model left in stock with $200 off.

That is interesting, particularly if this is a trend all over the place. Quick, to our local Best Buy stores to check MBP 15" inventory!! 😀

I usually applaud Tim’s revenue maximization, but I know, like, two hipsters on Earth who don’t use the extension cable. It was just a jerk move, lost a LOT of good will...I usually get mine in bulk from MacSales.com for $9.

The current Mac Mini, the older MacBook Pros, the current iMac, the current iMac Pro, the older MacBook Airs, and MacBooks. So, quite a few.

Thanks. More than I thought, but still the vast, vast majority of Apple devices sold do not support SD cards.

iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, AirPods, HomePod, MacBook Pro, MacBook Air, iPod.

New Mac Pro? :)

Honestly, i am done with the Macbook PRO. They are not PRO, just running a browser is taxing to it and the heat is incredibly high for simpler tasks. I can not imagine rendering 3D and so on.

If you want a PROfessional device to get big tasks gone, use a desktop mac.

I hear a lot of things doubt a 3-4 or 5 week delay or so, just to be clear, we are ALL looking until MID 2020 fur a 2016 release.... would be very surprised otherwise!

Who needs a new MacBook pro when we have AirPod Pro's anyways.. 🙃

The press briefing for the airpods was yesterday. We will find out within a week if the 16" was part of it.

A desktop will be unbeatable in terms of performance. A laptop is a portable computer and will never have the power of a Mac Pro or similar hardware. It’s not Apple’s fault.

Correct, it is the portability factor with the Macbook Pro. But the Mac Pro tower is the Mac Truck semi of the Mac world. The Macbook Pro is like a Cadillac, it might not haul or last as long but it is fast and looks good when you are using it.

I was throwing around the idea of getting a Mac Mini and a portable monitor. It uses regular desktop computer chips, you can hookup on Thunderbolt 3 EGPU box and it is still portable with the built in graphics card to do basic things. And with Intel's new i7 processors with a better graphics chip on it. This could be a good alternative to a Macbook Pro or a Mac Pro with somone on a budget. Maybe Apple will come out with a Mac Mini Pro. I have already told Apple in feedback, i think they could have a market for such a machine.
