Samsung watch is round as a watch should be

Watches used to be round because of the mechanical movement inside. Digital watches have been squarish since day 1. The point here is not to look at how watches were made historically and make new watches that resemble that design style, but to look a bit further at what people actually do with the device. Smartwatches are used now to do much more than to just tell time. For 90% of the functions of a smartwatch, a square design makes more sense.

The round smartwatches that are on the market build on that old "a watch is supposed to be round" principle, but reviews from most of the reputed sites have shown that the round interface does the actual functionality not much good. But hey, at least it is round right?

The damage is done. Samsung already stole a large part of the smartphone market and made billions from the infringing products and their successors. An empty victory for Apple I'm afraid.
No, no, Samsung was innovating, not stealing. This is horrible for tech! ha ha

The real victory here is for the lawyers on both sides, most likely made a fortune from drawing out a long protracted course case over a series of appeals and counter claim suits.

Galaxy S6 isn’t inspired from iphone, but from Ativ S which is a phone made by Samsung.
Pic. Actually you can say iphone copied the Ativ S. :)))
But don't let this stop you from posting absolute nonsense.

You say it's copied from the AtivS because of the rounded edges? Give me a break.

And me posting nonsense? Just look at these two! Copy/paste lol

Beyond that you have the aptly named Samsung Pay (Apple's version is called Apple Pay).

Said it before, but I'm always amazed at how people obsess over Samsung on this forum.

And I'm sure on Android forums, they obsess over iPhone.

I should rethink my life for having read this thread and posted to it...

"The decision comes weeks after Facebook, Google and other Silicon Valley companies sided with Samsung in the case, arguing that forcingSamsung to turn over profits from devices that infringed Apple patents would stifle innovation."

Um, isn't the concept of innovation NOT to copy things?
How can you innovate when Apple has a patent on frickin' everything. I wonder if the Galaxy S6 design was to just piss Apple off lol

You should see Samsung's new Apple Watch......competitor:
It's app icons are circles ... that's all you're using to base an assumption? How about the circular design? Oh wait, that doesn't matter because the app icons are circles.

The Gear 2 was a square shape, it's app icons were more or less, squared (2x2)

I "obsess" over Samsung because people here ridiculously worship Apple, as if everything they do is correct. I would bet on believing that not many people are aware of what ridiculous patents Apple has. They just leap and cry their joy over an Apple "victory" because ... well ... Apple won.

Great work at putting everyone here in one box. Good job. You are correct that nuance is not found on this board. And we really need someone like you to bring sense to this site.

Do we really need the /s?

Since when samung had a windows phone?

at this point, samsung has been proven to copy every model slavishly. I see no reason apple is not due payment and samsung saying fining them is stifling innovation is just outrageous.

Samsung need to pay. If they had changed their copying ways then maybe i would sympathise but they have got closer still to look and feel and still fail to see why apple is pissed at that! The Chinese still don't see copying style or patents as wrong but in the end it'll be the Chinese economy that pays the price of not having original thinking.

They will most likely still stall on paying.
Once a judgement is made and no more appeals are going into process there's absolutely no reason for Samsung not to pay the fine. They are insured. Every company has Errors & Omissions insurance that pays for lawsuits. Fines don't come out of company's pockets.

I never intended to put everyone in one box; I have seen a numerous amount of users who aren't blind Apple fans on this site, yourself included. But I admit, I should have worded my post more appropriately.

This is also an Apple Enthusiasts forum. Maybe you should find a place consumed of Samsung Enthusiasts....if there is one.
An Enthusiast isn't a hardcore, blind supporter though. Take the Gear S2 Smartwatch's OS. It has circular icons, but still some people think that Samsung copied Apple. Why? Because of circular icons? Without even looking at how the OS operates, an assumption was made with supporters who agree. It's just as ridiculous as it sounds, but still people tend to agree with it.

But then again, Android users do it too with their "Apple just got that feature. We've had this feature since Gingerbread..." or something.

I wish there was a site where people who loved technology could just talk ... without there being any sort of divisions between iOS and Android, OSX and Windows (and Linux)...

Their box and stuff is white! Apple has white stuff now! The fingerprint setup shows a fingerprint and instructions? WTF, thieves! They should throw a foot or something stupid in that setup screen! That keyboard looks straight Apple with the number row and the case shifting. Light themes are so Apple! Apple introduced suggestions too! I'm so heated about these multinational companies stealing from each other on the reg to stay on what consumer expectations become over time! But only if it's not Apple stealing.

"The decision comes weeks after Facebook, Google and other Silicon Valley companies sided with Samsung in the case, arguing that forcing Samsung to turn over profits from devices that infringed Apple patents would stifle innovation."

Seriously? This is hilarious! It's quite the opposite. Samsung stifled innovation all by themselves when they blatantly copied Apple's designs. Apple is the true innovator. Awarding Apple this money will only help them to continue their efforts and innovate further.

Really depends on fashion style. A watch isn't a PDA or a phone, it's supposed to have a little fashion to it. Since it's more modern do you expect everyone to have square watches now? Square watches is patented by apple (lol, I really am kidding, Samsung is ridiculously copying SOME stuff).

But I for one had the moto 360, if it was thinner it'd be an amazing watch. Round was nice, square is just different taste.

Not completely wrong but also not completely right. A certain amount of copying within a market is needed to push a company to innovate. There would be no progress if everyone would focus on different markets and products.

Sorry, that makes absolutely no sense. A company innovates to differentiate its product from a competitor's. You can't copy someone else's work for the period of the patent...you have to innovate. That's the whole point.

I think Samsung could be very innovative if they took the time. Look at the edge. The only device on the market with the design. It's really quite nice. I find it ironic that a lot of fanboys say that's copied from apple too, not sure how. The S6 non-edge, yes, if you look at the bottom side, same material, same layout, same holes, same everything. In fact I was walking in best buy and saw it and wondering wtf is an iPhone doing in a samsung kiosk.

But you have to admit, even though it's an opinion, the edge is a cool device with an innovative design that no one else has.
