My sympathies NightFox. Hope you get sorted soon.

My order was placed at 11:47 on the 7th and in all three conversations I've had with customer services since then (as well as in yesterday's "you'll be one of the first to own" email), I've been assured that it will turn up today. I was hoping it was a tracking fault, but I'm beginning to fear the worst.

It's here! What are the odds there'll be a dead pixel smack bang in the middle of the screen...?

BTW, anyone know how to verify whether a number transfer has been instigated? I put in my PAC details and current phone number when ordering, but there's no paperwork with the phone to indicate any of this. Hardly a biggie right now, but I've got to have something to moan about :)

Thanks - sorry to say it but your situation sounds virtually identical to mine and CPW sounded pretty certain that I wouldn't be getting anything today. :(

As a matter of interest, are you porting a number with a PAC code? I am and every time I've rung up they've said "you're not porting a number are you?", but when I've said yes they've gone off for a minute or so but always came back and still assured me I'd be getting it today.

Well my iPhone arrived early this morning, ordered from CPW. I feel sorry for those people who are currently queuing in busy stores, not knowing whether there's enough stock.

I've activated and so on but am getting 'No Service.' I believe that's normal, as my sim card is waiting to be activated? How long does it take? Anyone else in the same boat?

I am porting a number. I had thought that this could be the potential cause for delay.

I think I'll give it a couple of hours before ringing, but am pretty much expecting delivery next week now. :(.

I'm going to ring them in a couple of minutes... and demand it's delivered tomorrow, at no extra cost. Guess I'm not as patient as you ;)

Ordered a 16GB yesterday at midday online, called them this morning as the tracking page had not changed from stage 1, was told that they couldn't speak to me about the order because the name on the order was not mine and they couldn't tell me the name it was under either.
Well that got me a little wound up; Explained the fact that they had already taken the payment out of MY credit card and e-mailed me the order details so how could it be the wrong name????
Anyway after 10 mins of explaining I got them the cancel the first order and create it again under the correct name, just managed to get one of the last 16GBs available as the one that was reserved from the first order was put back into free stock when it was cancelled, CPW website now states out of stock. Should be with me tomorrow morning via City-Link.

Just one other thing, when they cancelled the first order they sent an e-mail confirming the cancellation, the e-mail sated the name the order was placed under, it was my ex-girlfriends name who had moved out over a year ago, CPW must have messed up the credit check and entered the wrong name in as I can't see where else they could have possibly gotten her name from, unless she's stalking me again lol

Great... after being on hold to CPW for 20 minutes I finally get through, only to be told by Mr Unhelpful that they're order tracking system has crashed so he can't look up my order. He said I should send an e-mail to their Web Orders Team who would get back to me. Yeah, like middle of next week I would guess.

And now I try calling back in the hope that I'll end up speaking to someone more helpful, and the battery in my landline cordless phone dies...

This is just getting worse by the hour.

Spoke to CPW last night who said it would be delivered to the store today. Just called CPW Hammersmith who haven't had their iPhone delivery yet

I've finally had "the truth" from CPW and I actually feel sick with anger and disappointment.

To recap, ordered my 16GB 11:53 Monday AM, status went to processing that afternoon and when I phoned on Tuesday I was told the order was complete and that I would receive my iPhone today. Called back Weds and Thurs to confirm, and was told the same thing. Even got an e-mail Thursday night telling me it would be with me today.

However, my status never moved to Stage 3 and I never got a tracking number, so at 8:00 this morning I was on the phone to them, to be told I wouldn't be getting my phone today, they couldn't tell why but I would get it next week.

I've been phoning back and speaking to various people all morning, demanding (politely) that they find it and deliver it to me tomorrow, and being told someone would look into it and get back to me, though "maybe not today".

Just rang them again and spoke to a really decent guy (I won't mention his name) - who came clean straight away and told me I would never get the phone, because they had over-committed their allocation and had accepted more orders for 16GB than they ever had, and he didn't reckon they would have any more 16GB in for several weeks. So basically, despite being one of the first to order and all CPW's assurances, I'm never going to get my 16GB, I'm afraid after looking forward to today so much like a kid, I just can't bring myself to wait another 2, 3 or even more weeks in the hope of new stock.

I've caved in and am getting an 8GB delivered tomorrow. I know that I'll end up regretting not waiting for another batch of 16GB, but I've been so hyped up for today I've been left absolutely gutted by CPW's incompetence. And it just makes it worse that I know any letter/e-mail of complaint I write to them is just going to get lost in the pile of 1,000's they are bound to get next week which I'm sure will just end up in the shredder.

This should have been a great day, instead CPW have totally ruined it for me.

So all of you lucky people who ordered 16GB iPhones from CPW just yesterday and are getting them today, spare a thought for those of us who have been well and truly SCR**ED

I found out why mine was kept at Stage 1.

Turns out Barclaycard Fraud Prevention blocked the transaction, as they "seem to get a lot of fraudulent transactions from Carphone Warehouse."

Unfortunately, they didn't call me, and CPW didn't give me a reason why it was at Stage 1.

Anyway, notwithstanding the hour on hold, CPW were very helpful and polite in getting it sorted and upgraded to a Saturday delivery. I'm now at Stage 2 :D

If you're at Stage 1, it might be worth checking with your CC company.

NightFox, that's an awful experience. I swore years ago I'd never use CPW again but caved in at the prospect of getting an iPhone.

CPW told me last night it would be delivered to a store today but I have absolutely no faith it will happen. I'm going to be very gutted if they've messed it up

I got exactly the same treatment. Ordered as soon as I got the email on Monday, got a phone call to confirm details for the credit check later that day. I phoned on Tuesday and again on Thursday to make sure everything was OK as my order wasn't progressing on the website. Assured my phone would be with me today.

I phoned today and was told they had no idea why I'd been told I would be getting my phone because they'd sold out the initial allocation and my order would have to wait for more stock arriving, which they assured me would happen today. For all their assurances are worth.

I'm now told Monday or Tuesday but I don't believe it. I'm going to try the Apple Store but I know they're having big problems signing people up. Failing that I'll cancel the CPW order and wait for the dust to settle.

I don't know what PR genius told them there's no such thing as bad publicity, but that seems to be the attitude.

I'm sat here with No Service, which is very frustrating. I'd like to be able to actually use the phone to phone people and the like.

o2 tell me I will eventually pick up a service as they work through a backlog caused by the system crashing.

Surely it wasn't beyond them to think "we have 200,000 iPhones in stock, can our system deal with 200,000 activations almost at once". Shambles.

If you're at Stage 1, it might be worth checking with your CC company.

I had essentially the same problem. CPW seemingly do a 1p transaction to check the card details. This is apparently a pattern that card company systems may flag as a possible indication that somebody is "trying out" card details (which, indeed, in this case they are!), so block it.

So, yes, if you seem to be stuck at stage 1, it is absolutely worth checking with CPW. I did so this morning and, as a result, had a completely new 16Gb order placed (shortly before the stock ran out) which should be delivered tomorrow.

Well I've received 2 16gb iPhones from
CPW. Been charged for one on credit card but not the other. But O2 have me as having 2 phone numbers and 2 accounts. ?!??!!

Seriously. What is going on ?!?! Now I've got to figure out which they've told O2 to ported my old number to.

Got mine deliverd earlier today.

Ive not activated yet.....say if i was not to activate the o2 sim ....would i still be signed up to the contract?

If not could i once available jailbreak and use with a o2 payg sim?

Thanks

Attention all CPW Preorder Customers!

I ordered my iPhone on Tuesday and it arrived this morning. I managed to activate it immediately so haven't really been affected by all these iTunes outages.

I'm still sat with 'No Service.' My understanding is that these activations should have been done in advance of us receiving our phones, so I don't understand where the problem is.

I've spoken to O2 who say it's a CPW problem (i.e. the details haven't come through) but CPW put it down to O2's system failures! O2 also tell me they have no record of my details ... why not?! CPW says they sent them and that's that.

Is anybody else in the same boat? I feel us small minority of early adopters are being grouped in with the many thousands of others who are having problems - but I believe we may have an entirely separate problem.

Does anybody know how the activation process actually works? Do I really have anything to be concerned about? If it takes 24/48 hours to activate my phone (as per current estimates) then fine. But I don't want to be calling up O2 and CPW in two days time saying "It's still not working - I told you this was a different problem."

I was also told that it's only the O2/CPW in-store systems that have gone down - so why are we being affected?

Update for CPW Preorder Customers

Okay, I finally managed to speak to somebody at O2 who knew what was going on and bothered to find the answer to the other questions I had.

Apparently O2's central system is called Gateway. Their customer database ties into it, as do many other systems including the ones which send out SIM activations.

As such, O2 are currently unable to pull up some customer's data, and many SIM registrations aren't being sent out. I was asked to give it 48-72 hours but I really do hope that they manage to get this sorted much more quickly.

I just spoke to CPW Internet Sales Support, as mine is still in Stage 2, for delivery today(!)

I asked him if there is categorically an iPhone with my name on it in their warehouse. He said yes, definitely, but the guys in the warehouse are just having a lot of trouble getting them out the door.

I mentioned that there are reports that CPW have oversold their stock and now are unable to fulfil existing orders which is why I was asking.

He said that they do have unsold iPhones in stock, but they're waiting to clear the backlog so they can figure out exactly what they've got left, and then they'll reopen sales. He said that they stopped processing orders around 2-3pm yesterday... I'm not sure what that exactly means.

So, Monday for me, if I take his word for it.

I no longer accept any assurances from CPW, no matter how sincere, categoric or definitely. After having to settle for an 8GB to be delivered today after thet admitted they didn't have a 16GB to complete my original order that they had promised to deliver yesterday, it now looks like they are giving me the run-around with this order too.

I rang them this morning to confirm my 8GB was being delivered today as my status still shows "Stage 2" and was told it's with CityLink and I should call them to confirm it'll be delivered this morning. So I ring CityLink and they've got no record of the job, meaning it's not been sent to them yet by CPW.

After the total cock-up of my first order I really hoped somebody was going to go out of their way to make sure I at least got my 8GB today as promised

I received mine yesterday. Then this morning checking my emails I have another one from cpw saying my order has been processed and will be with me today  Will I receive a second, it's only one per customer as we all know. If citylink turn up today I will refuse delivery as I am not paying to send it back :confused::confused:
