iCloud started the push to no sharing of devices on a single Apple ID. Thus family sharing. Family sharing really for families or multiple users who really share very little. If two Apple ID’s need to share things like all photos, pain in the back side. Applies to everything that needs sharing. Shared Apple ID was sweet but now with each IOS update, too many issues.

Sort of explains why iPad still has no user managing in the year 2017. PC replacement my ass

Why would they let your whole family logging into the same iPad when they can make you buy one for each? :p

I wonder if they haven't built out the necessary infrastructure to support multi-users on the same device in a secured way. Also, what happens to their apps and content rights (movies and songs)? Sure record labels will have a say in that too?

Faceid is in its infancy now. It may take time for Apple to add multiple face register in the future when face-id is matured and more advanced.

When enabling Touch ID for my mobile banking app, I had to sign a declaration stating that I am the only person whose fingerprint is registered on the phone. It's part of the bank's Terms of Service. I haven't checked Apple's own Terms yet. But I'd be horrified if it allowed a different person's fingerprint on one's phone.
The device can register 5 fingers. How is the device to know whom the finger belongs to?

I would be fine with a simple guest mode tbh. Every time a friend or family asks me for my iPad i am like „omg did i leave anything embarrassing open in a safari tab, is my private mode closed, i hope i am not getting an awkward iMessage ...“

Lmaooo is this guy serious? Give me a break. What does he do that he needs such a long complex passcode?

And why doesn’t he just disable attention awareness and his wife can just hold the phone towards his face to unlock it.

This is such a nonissue it’s hilarious. How many times do they REALLY need to get into each other’s phone? Might as well share a phone number and iCloud account too.

Are you married? There are multiple times where my wife and I are using each others phones. She's busy doing something and asks me to respond to a text. I'm driving and have her respond or do something on my phone. It happens all the time.

What I don't get is everyone understands the convenience of not entering a passcode and using face id, yet few don't want to accept the convenience that adding this feature would be for others that obviously utilize it. Which way seems more convenient, adding multiple people on face ID or requiring everyone else to know and enter a passcode? They could even do something that tracks when a face was last used so you aren't giving someone else root access to change critical features without the passcode, but they do have access to open your phone.

The couple should create a less complex password unless he works in one of the rare sensitive positions where high security is required. If he is in such a position, then *he* shouldn't be using FaceID either.

So... as a workaround to one security feature we should reduce the efficacy of another security feature?

Touch ID was never intended for multiple users? That's B.S. They built Touch ID to support five fingers. Who is going to register five of their own fingers for Touch ID?!
I had 4 of my fingers both thumbs and index fingers

Emergency being...? You can still emergency call when the phone is locked. I can't think of a scenario that would constitute an emergency but involves unlocking their phone to resolve the emergency. That scenario also involving you not having your own phone.
You've clearly never been around a teenager who must get on snapchat like right now.

I feel like all I can think of is just "SMH." Apple's obsession with selling a unique device to every single person in family is so frustrating.

Multiple user accounts on an iPad would almost assuredly convince me to buy a new iPad for my family.
I couldn’t imagine having to share my iPad I don’t know many people who use them as a family device I thought must people passed down their old devices to other family members and kids

Not sure how this applies to the primary use case, but Apple has created enabled multiple users on iPads to support the educational (student) use case.

ofc, touchid can have up to 5 fingerprints because a human has 2 hands with 10 fingers
and a human has one face
