That's a very tough situation and I've been in several like it before, but I've never had anyone snatch my stuff and run for it. I don't need to tell you anything you haven't already figured out by now, but I'm glad you're alright and I'm glad it was only a relatively cheap item they stole. Still sucks but the world is full of crummy people. Just remember to think logically and not emotionally. I'm sure that feeling of excitement for getting the laptop at such a steal (no pun intended) was shadowing your gut instinct to call it quits sooner.
