I can't understand why all people are fleeing from Twitter. It seems in these days it is a political statement to use or not use certain networks. Doesn't it make more sense though to join the networks that are full of people who do NOT share your views? There your own views will have a much bigger impact. Why share your views with people who already share your views?
I fled twitter for the same reason I fled fb, it is not a medium for free speech — it is an auction platform that sells users and coercive tools to the highest bidder (or gives it away to anyone the owner approves of) while fooling users into believing they are making up their own minds.

Buffer.com is a great free option for crossposting - up to three social accounts on the free version, including X, so it's a great option if you're still posting to X while migrating to Bluesky

No one wants to talk about the pending built in function to do exactly this? The whole point of the fediverse is to post from one place and be seen elsewhere. Granted, it’s not done yet but this app’s days are shortly numbered out of the gate.

MR moderators have done that as those things are against their rules

Untrue. Memes and jokes are not against any rule I can find.

The only reference to memes is here:

Frivolous posts. Posts that contain no relevant or constructive commentary. This includes one- or two-word posts such as "cool", "LOL", "I agree", "+1", "this", "me too", "no way", other equivalent comments of any length, posts consisting only of smilies or overused memes, posts about being the first post in a thread, posts about your lack of interest in the thread (ignore the thread instead), and posts with irrelevant images or videos, especially those without text. If your post will add nothing to a discussion, don't post it.

Memes get posted on MR every single day. As long as they don't break the above rule or others, they seem to be tolerated.

Jokes are not mentioned at all. "Crude" is highly subjective and as long as one doesn't run afoul of other rules, jokes also seem to be tolerated.

I dont' have a dog in the hunt as I don't use any of these services but the few times I have looked at the main page of BS it seemed to have its fair share of negativity as well.

As @Skyscraperfan mentioned, it seems ones choice of social network has now been reduced to another way to signal to ones tribe.

I see these networks as extensions of the public square and as such one is likely to have zero control over what one might see or hear. Sometimes you will agree with it, sometimes you won't, sometimes you will find it comical, sometimes you will be horrified. That's life.

Would you ban every person here at MR that speaks negatively of Apple, posts memes or makes a "crude" (but within the rules) joke as a way to only read positive things? I hope not.

For now. They all start that way, then the need to monetize rears its head.

Yes, I absolutely think that these platforms create echo chambers, and that you obviously still cannot fully control what you see on a user-generated content platform. For the time being, at least, I have a more enjoyable experience on Bluesky and Threads. It's as simple as that to me.

P.S. I am not involved with moderation. If I were, I would try to enforce whichever rules exist as best as possible, but online moderation is a challenge for anyone. Referees are rarely popular.

X is undoubtedly still the largest, but I think it has become a very toxic and negative place. The replies section on this post, for example, is full of hostility, racism, crude jokes, and memes. I don't know who finds joy in that sort of thing, but it isn't me. I'd rather read positive things and get along with people.
X is as toxic as you want it to be. Just block certain key words and it's great. For sports and my professional world it is amazing and no toxicity. I think people go to X and want to talk politics and politics is always toxic when there is free speech. But X is still SOOO good for everything thats not politics. Just block or ignore the politics and X is beautiful.

It's not about sharing your views with people who share your own opinion. It's about using a platform with an algorithm that is not controlled and manipulated by one single person. It's about choosing for a decentralized internet instead of dancing to the rhythm of a guy who happens to have an obscene amount of money.
The algorithm on X is public. It's on Github. You think Elon is messing with it? Down load it and show what Elon is doing. What other platform has a public algorithm? Google, Facebook? X is truly the peoples platform.

I have dozens of words/names blocked on X. I follow less than 200 accounts and I use the Following tab in the app. People who complain about the unwanted content aren't using the app to its potential.

These are not social networking apps/sites. All of them are antisocial networking apps. They serve only to isolate us from each other, and encourage the worst of human behavior under the cloaks of distance and anonymity. Instead of going to see your friends and families, you text them. You don't even talk to them on the phone anymore. And it's only going to get worse with the growth of AI.

A so-called public algorithm does not mean the deployed algorithm cannot and is not being arbitrarily manipulated by the people running the platform. It’s been widely reported that Musk ordered changes to the algorithm after Biden’s Super Bowl post got higher engagement than his. This a clear example that X is Musk’s and his tribe’s platform and far from the purported “free speech” platform he claims.
