Follow the instructions on the Crucial website for making a bootable USB drive.

I tried that. But the instructions say to download a free version of USB installer to create a bootable drive. When i downloaded it, it said that it was for windows only. That's when I called Crucial, and the rep said that he could email me a 7 page instruction sheet for creating a USB installer for OSX, or just do it via CD and have it done in a few minutes.

"1. Using the CD burning software of your choice, burn the
firmware ISO image to CD media."
what cd burning software do you use ?

I updated last night to the new firmware and my 2012 MacBook Pro just died. It can't detect SSD any more, shows me the grey folder with question mark on it.

I am doing "power cycle" as someone in crucial forums suggested. I hope it comes back to life, if not, there is always time machine backup.

I guess Macs are not UEFI then

The Crucial Firmware page has this warning:

"UEFI-based Systems: During validation of this firmware update we noticed instances where our update tools do not recognize the SSD with some systems using UEFI........"

Some folk on the Crucial forum are assuming this means you can't use it on Macs, but from the number of successful updates here that must be wrong.

Try booting to your recovery partition and point your computer to the correct startup disk? It is possible the firmware update failed. Did you verify that it was applied correctly before you shut the system down?

I saw that as well, but I figured I'd give it a try anyway. There must be enough of a difference between the EFI we have on our macs and the UEFI that has issues. The worst thing that would happen is you'd boot from the CD you created and find that the SSD isn't seen, thus not allowing you to update.

The searching I've done indicated that 0309 was the firmware released to fix the 5000 hour bug. If you aren't having issues, I'd keep what you've got.

Mine fell over with the 5000hour bug some months ago. It was a real pain to figure out the problem. I read that 000F caused some people some problems. I am still running 0309. Was planning to stick to it.

But today, my machine (MBP Early 2011) crashed. SSD invisible and wouldn't mount.

Eventually came alive after unplugging all cables, SMC reset, PRAM zap. Couldn't get it to come up with just power down, SMC reset, PRAM zap (unless I needed an extra set of chimes to complete).

Will stick to 0309 for now.

I don't believe Crucial makes it particularly difficult to downgrade(Ahem, iOS), so as long as you still have the 0309 firmware saved, you should be able to go back if you have issues.

Updated both my MBPs (one 2010 and one 2011) to 010G.

Since I have Datadoublers in both machines I had to put the optical drive back in one and updated both SSDs in that. Didn't take nearly as long as I expected...you don't need to put all the screws back in for a temporary swap.

No problems so far, or noticeable improvements...I am a tinkerer/update junkie!

came back to life after "power cycle".

For all those with bootcamp partitions and Windows installed. The Upgrade works just fine from within Windows using the online installer.

For all those that cannot burn a DVD, cannot boot from a USB stick or just don't want to bother with such inconveniences like burning a disc, just reboot in Windows.

Could early 2011 MBP 13" users confirm that this firmware is stable for this specific setup. 000F gave me the spinning beachball of death symptom, so I had to revert. I just dont want to go through the whole trouble again.
TIA

Never mind, I bit the bullet and updated the firmware to the latest. This time it rocks!

no idea, i am glad it came back to life. I hate to do RMA, in fact, my model (7mm) is not even showing up on crucial website. I am not sure if they stopped producing 7mm.

Yeah, I'd hate to have to RMA mine as well. It'd be hard to use my computer with my old HDD while it was gone.

I'm sure they'd be able to fix the drive. It's basically the same as the 9.5mm version but with a slimmer chassis. They would either swap out the whole unit or possibly just replace the guts.

Update is ok? I can make a bootable usb on my pc but will it work on mac if i download the apple verision

It should work, but I've had better luck booting from CD/DVD lately so I decided against spending the time creating the bootable USB. I realize this isn't an option for some people though.

It won't work. The problem is that macs won't boot windows from USB without special tools e.g. on this thread:

http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-S...-Macbook-Pro-without-optical-disc/td-p/106726

If they could boot USB you could plug in a USB optical drive and put the update CD in, but that doesn't work either (or with firewire external optical)

I have to take the Datadoubler out of my MBP and refit the optical to update firmware.
