I asked that question couple back but people mentioned the new firmware has no speed change from the 0309.
Im still afraid to enable TRIM since I hear many horrific stories about them.

I'm pretty new to the SSD? Just did some reading and am going to disable the trim support until I can get better information. THanks for the heads up!:):)

The M4 has great garbage collection, therefore no need for trim. Also the latest firmware is supposed to improve garbage collection.

I've had TRIM enabled on mine since I bought it and my R/W speeds are great. I'd disable it but everything seems to be working fine.

What are the "horror stories" about TRIM?

There's no problem using trim. I just said its not needed given my personal experience and other research I've done. Crucial themselves will tell you trim is not needed. The "horror stories" I'm assuming they talk about is having to hack into the OS to enable trim since 3rd party SSD's don't support it natively. I'm sure there are other stories of trim not helping the situation, more than likely the drive had "Pre existing conditions".

Well, I'm happy. Does the new update offer anything spectacular?

See for yourself.

Version 040H includes the following changes:
-Improved robustness in the event of an unexpected power loss. Significantly reduces the incidence of long reboot times after an unexpected power loss.
-Corrected minor status reporting error during SMART Drive Self Test execution (does not affect SMART attribute data).
-Streamlined firmware update command for smoother operation in Windows 8.
-Improved wear leveling algorithms to improve data throughput when foreground wear leveling is required.

I have firmware revision 010G. Is there a newer version, or am I cool with this one?

As others have said there is a newer one 040H. In the Crucial forum it is clear that many more than usual mac owners are having trouble with the update, which gets stuck at "finding drives".

I was one of the lucky ones and updated three SSDs without problem.

Not clear why some macs are working and some not. The 040H thread in the Crucial forum is making some attempt to isolate the factors.

Can't say I have seen any difference for 040H....I am just an update junkie.

Cannot update from 010G to 040H.

I get the following message:This tool cannot update the following drive... so this update will be skipped.

No eligible SSD drive found.

Any ideas as to why I'm running into this issue? Thanks.

Never mind. Got it! :)

I ran the Windows 7/8 firmware update package while booted into my Windows 7 bootcamp environment. The firmware update completed successfully with zero issues.

I have the 256GB m4, and it was at 000F prior to applying the 040H update.

It would be nice if you shared it with us so that if someone else runs into this issue they will be able to give it a try.

I downloaded the wrong firmware. That was the problem. I just needed the M4, but I mistakenly downloaded another.

SSD Replacement

A note for anyone Native English speaking and living in Germany, I bought the 256 GB version from Gravis online (They are the place to go to here if there is not an Apple store in your Town), and it came with the 040H Firmware already installed, so definitely the place to shop if you are buying.

And, no, I do not work for them :) I bought a Verbatim 256 GB SSD from another reputable online company, but the Firmware was very old, with no way to update it except to literally put it in a windows PC as the main drive. After 3 weeks it ran slower than my original HDD in my 2008 MBP! So I wanted to share that Gravis seem to carry up to date stock, and do not just sell you what is in their warehouse, no matter the age.

I'm still on firmware 010G and I think I'll wait till others report the update is safe...

Their updates still won't my 256GB M4. This will be the last Crucial SSD i ever buy. I'd get an 840 Pro right now but i think i'll just wait get a new Mac with Apple certified SSD when Haswell launches.

There's nothing to be confused about. I'm getting tired of the M4 and its issues (unable to upgrade/downgrade firmware and frequent disappearances from boot menu), but i'm due to upgrade my Mac soon. So i'm waiting to buy a new mac (Haswell) instead of buying a new SSD for a Mac i already plan on foregoing soon.

It's very confusing because Apple has released Ivy Bridge processor. So shouldn't you be buying it with Apple's certified SSD?

Just updated three M4 SSDs to 070H in my 2010 MacBook Pro.

All went smoothly.

One of the three is normally in my other MBP (early 2011), and the other is normally an external. I do all the updating in the 2010 because I have to refit the internal superdrive to do the update, and so only want to do this on one machine.

Both MBPs seem to be running fine, as they were before (on all prevuius versions of firmware).

FWIW The 512M4 SSDs in both my MBPs are part of home brew Fusion Drives, which seem to have been unaffected by the firmware update.

Although I have got pretty quick at refitting my optical superdrive to update the firmware (five times now) I would love to be able to boot from a USB stick, if anyone knows how to do this on an older (ie supplied with a superdrive generation) Mac.
