Current 11-Inch iPad Pro Now Been Available Longer Than Any Previous Model

the longest-lasting model of its kind ever on sale

Technically correct, but it’s only been around 10% longer than average.

It’s been on a schedule of a little under a year and a half for quite a while. This isn’t much of an outlier.

But more interestingly: with the A12Z and M1 revisions, overall sentiment seemed to be that it was overpowered. The iPadOS 16 Stage Manager feature gives the M1 a purpose, but beyond that, I don’t think most people are aching for a performance boost.

The problem is other than slimmer bezels and landscape camera placement, there’s nothing substantial needed with the iPad Pros. Not even design other than noted above. The very last thing people want in an iPad Pro is better hardware. It’s the software that’s been slow to get along.
I would like an oled screen. But Apple always needs to hold something back... MAYBE mini led next year. oled in about 5 years from now. haha
I have a Galaxy tab S8+ with gorgeous amoled display that I love, but there are still a few apps that keep drawing me to apple (damn developers! release you good stuff on other platforms!)
But yes, other than those couple of apps, I can be much more productive on any other OS.

Honestly, there is zero incentive to upgrade from M1 to M2 if the iPad is only relegated to basic entertainment stuff.
You want to advertise more firepower? Well, give us something to make use of that firepower!

The flat edges were never a good idea, ergonomically, for the iPad.

I can see why they did it though (to support wireless charging for the Apple Pencil).
Which is weird because I genuinely really like the flat edges. My only complaint is the position of the power plug and the pencil charging edge. If they were flipped for me, it would be a much smoother experience but considering I'm left handed, I've gotten used to things being just a little bit off for me. :p

One thing I know is the only task my M1 iPad Pro struggling is playing genshin at max setting in 120fps, which M2 will not improve. But for everything else M1 is still more than enough, so little to no incentive to upgrade to me. Even less so if the M1 accessory is not compatible.

The Tab S8+ is a really really nice tablet. Samsung has done a really nice job with the hardware and software. Developers could really do a lot more with it.

Agree on the hardware, but the software drives me crazy. The terrible edge detection alone has me only using the device to consume media.

The battery in my 2016 12.9" iPad Pro finally died this year and I wasn't going to replace even if I could.

So I decided to replace it in April with the 2021 12.9" M1 iPad Pro knowing that Apple was going to update it this fall, but also knowing that the M1 chip was more than capable of doing everything I wanted it to within the limitations of the iPadOS 15.7 software.

So no 12.9" M2 iPad Pro upgrade for me next month. ;):apple:;)

No thanks. Android has higher rates of piracy and lower rates of people buying tablets for productivity purposes (chicken and egg). Google has had a decade making the case that Android tablets can be productive. They’ve failed.

I've still got the original (2017?) 10.5" pro for my personal device and use a 2018 12.9" at work. Both still work great! I *almost* replaced my personal device with the new iPad mini, but losing the pro motion display (and the mini's jelly scroll) made me hold off.

The dream, IMO, would be a mini with faceID and promotion. Absent that, I likely settle for a 11" pro refurb one of these days.

2021 M1 iPad "Pro" 11 may be the only Apple product I regretted purchasing. It really occupies a useless spot between a Pro Max phone and a Macbook Air with its weak i(os)PadOS..

I have 2017 12.9 iPad Pro and I honestly can’t think of any reason why I would want to upgrade it to a newer model. For what I do on it which YouTube and Spotify, look at photos, Amazon Prime browse the web; it’s gonna be a while before I upgrade. If I need to do something demanding, my M1 MBP is sitting on my desk.

I always remember family friends visiting a few years ago and their kids were using a outdated iPad 2 to play games. The only competition the iPad has is older models.

There have been two generations of 5G modem updates since the release of the 2021 iPad Pros. A newer version will support more bands/better 5G speeds.

a dynamic island in landscape mode (thus bringing slimmer bezels) is the best solution 截屏2022-09-25 下午10.47.10.png

I can’t think of any upgrade that would make me switch from M1 12.9" to next gen in the upcoming years. Hardware wise it’s perfect in every way, the XDR display, the four speakers and M1 that simply will be as good for everything in 5 years as it is now. It’s only iPadOS that is lagging behind the development, far from macOS that is today.
they need to fix that bleed into the edge of the screen as well as the blooming. there are people like myself still holding out because of these manufacturing issues. throw in a new keyboard with volume control wheel on the side, and possibly MagSafe on the back: I'll be having a nice xmas this year

I'm kind of over the iPad at this point. Its great for what it is, but another same design with the same camera setup is a total pass for me. Apple touting the M2 as "x" amount faster than the M1 isn't going to cut it. The M1 iPad is blazing fast as is.

Apple needs to move the camera to the landscape position, or have cameras at both positions. And iPadOS 16 is barely an upgrade over OS 15 imo.

There just isn't much excitement in this space anymore.
Just give us Final Cut Pro and sell the new iPad at the same or $100 more than the 14 Mac book pro. just give us what we want and we'll pay for it. if someone hasn't bought the new Macs by now, they won't. so just give the iPad users what we want

This. I’m still rockin’ my 2018 A12X iPad Pro. However, I notice my iPhone 13 mini is faster in some ways.
Opening apps, no doubt that single core A15 speed is noticeably snappier, and even the multi core score is right there.
