If the price was reasonable, would you change your mind & buy the X?

I’m not sure. I’d definitely think about it a bit more if the price were lower. OLED screen and the camera improvements are tempting!

One of my main hesitations is actually the loss of Reachability on the X. The 4.7” iPhones are right at the border of one handed useability for me. Between Reachability and the 1 handed keyboard mode in iOS 11, I can comfortably work my iPhone 7 completely with one hand if I need to. I’m not wild about losing Reachability on the X, as it means I would have to either shuffle the phone in my hand to reach the top of the screen (increasing the chance of a drop) or use two hands. I would still think about waiting a year and letting the technology and UI design get sorted out, which is what I’m probably going to do this year.

Be honest please.

No.

I used the 6 Plus and 6s Plus for 3 years. I like the screen size. I like Touch ID. The 8 Plus is a proven design and solid hardware upgrade over what I'm comfortable with.

Not interested in an unproven X v1. I'll let someone else beta test Face ID and look at that hideous notch on a smaller screen. I'll check back and see if X v2 or v3 are better... just like I did with the Watch. Just got my first one... the Series 3.

If Apple wants me interested in X v2 or v3 the first thing they have to do is make it a Plus.

P.S.

LOVING THE 8 PLUS! HUGE UPGRADE OVER THE 6S PLUS! :) :) :)

It's more about value than price alone for me. If it were priced the same as the 7 Plus last in it's current state, then yes it would be more appealing.

If it were priced as it is now and was what I considered a better upgrade, it would be more appealing as well.

Who says that there won't be reachability on the X? They broke it in the first IOS 11.1 beta, so they're working on it and that's probably to make it suitable for the X (maybe via force touch the homebar?)

All I have to go by is from the hands on after the keynote. Also, the fact that it is buried in the accessibility section of the settings app in iOS 11 makes me think Apple is trying to drive people away from the feature altogether. But you’re right, it is possible Apple could integrate the feature if the demand for it is there. Maybe something like a swipe down or double tap on the home bar.

If the screen size were an upgrade from my 6s+, I'd go for the X. But it's really a downgrade in favor of a non-Plus-sized form factor, despite the advertised larger diagonal measurement.

At $999, I don't want a device with compromises. Selling it at $799 would make it more appealing, but I doubt it would have an impact on my decision. Screen size is important, and Apple is likely to remedy that next year.

I decided to wait it out and went with a 8. I’m hoping that next year all of the line will take the new form factor. If Apple does that there could be a smaller version of the 4.7 phone. That would then be very attractive for my needs. The notch is not a issue for me. I think it is distinctive and the using the small areas frees the rest of the screen for other things. There will be some changes to the gestures and UI for sure. So the price was not an issue in my decision. The 200 difference for the X seems inline for now. And if they had released a smaller 4.7 X, I would have paid the premium. Apple will more than likely adjust the price as that has been their pattern in the next version. Also the UI and gestures plus Face ID will be figured out and refined.

Price isn't the issue, it's just that there's no compelling reason to switch from my Galaxy S8. I'll wait and see what the S9 has to offer.

How are you liking the s8? I have an iPhone 6 and I waited for the reveal was pissed off what apple offered. I have been eyeing the s8 / s8+ ever since launch but held out trusting apple would deliver (and they didn't).

I am about to pull the trigger (not sure what size) and am confident it will be a great replacement. I am using google services so the apple eco system doesn't apply to me (except for imessage, that I will miss).

Yeah I really like it. It's got a great screen, works with all the devices I need it to work with like my car, Gear S3 watch etc. And yeah, it does email, twitter and Facebook. :) The iPhone X strikes me as being a very similar and just as capable device so if you're looking for an upgrade from something a bit older you should definitely consider that too. I'm just saying if someone is already on a current "flagship" phone there's probably not that much to entice you away.

Are you kidding?? Of course not! The OLED is nothing new, Face ID is a beta feature, it's just as fast at the 8, there is no way I could ever get into my phone with ANYTHING except for Touch ID (I can list out all the scenarios if you want), and the notch is so distracting that you might as well cover up the whole front of the phone. It's that bad! I would never purchase the X.

Yes but then no one would bother to purchase the 8/8+

If the X was 899 it would be cool. Still come out to under $1000 for most

Some of that is due to a preference for iOS but a lot is due to feeling squeezed by the tall skinny display on the bezeless phone.
This has been my experience as well, and it concerns me that Apple’s developer page clearly states that the iPhone X’s display-width (375 points) is the same as the iPhone 8 (and 7, and 6). One of the reasons I like the Plus is because of the “breathing room” you get with the wider display. (I’m just not in love with the added weight and bulk, which is what made me interested in the X in the first place.)

It's not the price that was the basis for my decision to buy the iPhone 8. I just prefer the smaller size, weight and Touch ID. I love the new gold phone with glass back and actually like the bezels as a place to hold the phone without getting so many fingerprints on the screen. I just hope I don't have regrets when I see that OLED screen.

I wouldn’t consider myself a dismissed but the more I think about it the more I feel $1000 is just too much for this thing. My 6s plus could use a new battery, but otherwise is doing just fine. I’m not even denying the upgrades over the 6s plus or even the newer 7s plus but nearly 50% price increase is pretty steep.

I’m thinking my money is better spent on a series three watch and maybe finally some EarPods.

Price is the main factor. If it was in line with previous iPhones I’d give it a try. It’s current price just makes me laugh and consider the 8 or alternatives.

I don’t need to spend over a grand on a mobile phone to get a top level smartphone so the X is at a serious disadvantage in its current price bracket.

People have short memories, the 4S launched with Siri as it's main feature and it was so so bad and utterly crap.

Apple and Beta features are a bad combo because they aren't out of Beta until the next model, what a shock I know.

iOS 11 wasn't made for the X and it's clear from the rules on the dev site for it, it's a terrible rush job and face ID will not be something "amazing"

NEED more options in poll. Like would you instead buy an IP8 or keep an older model? Otherwise the poll doesn't make too much sense.

A “No” would cover that decision.

Basically, anyone who considered the X, but was put off by the price & chose not to follow through with the purchase, either by keeping their current phone or buying another.

I answered no.

Price isn’t the biggest objection for me. I’d be willing to pay £999 for a phone if I felt it had enough to make that price tag worthwhile.

I’m happy to wait and see what next year brings.

If it came in at a more reasonable price, possibly. I dislike the "notch", and have no interest in FaceID. Beyond that, it just lacks the features to justify much of a premium to me. So if it came in at, say, last year's Plus price of $769? Yeah. I might give it a shot. But at $999, and $799 on the 8 Plus I'll be sticking with my SE for the time being.

EDIT: After watching that video posted above, the notch just ruins it too much for me. Even at $200+ cheaper I still wouldn't be interested.

No.

Price has never been a variable for me. I spent the last however many months convinced that the X would finally give me the best of both worlds: A lighter, large screened phone in a smaller overall package.

Once I saw how it is more-so an elongated 4.7” display with a more narrow screen than my Plus and an awful UI, I was defeated. I watch too much content in landscape to sacrifice with that screen. Even in portrait use, the narrower screen is a downgrade for me. Combine those elements with the notch, home bar and questionable convenience of face ID and the X quickly was ruled out for me.

Thankfully this 8 Plus was an option. While the look may be dated, Apple refined this device in every way. Saving money was simply the cherry on top.
