If the price was reasonable, would you change your mind & buy the X?

While tempting, I made myself a promise to pass on the first model and go for the "S" version of any future iPhone. This was after the 6s. At this point I prefer to get the upgraded model rather than just be the first. These current phones are already so capable I don't really feel like I'm missing out on anything anymore.

No, because I wanted a better camera "now" (6S to 8+). It’s also less stressful having a refined product (although my first-gen Watch, AirPods and iPad Pro have all been wonderful).

The price is irrelevant to my decision - I simply think there are too many compromises with it and it has, to a large extent, lost the essence of the iPhone.

The gestures are all over the place (swipe down one different sides for different functions and swipe down for control centre vs swipe up on every other iOS device for example)
I also think the notch looks ridiculous and I know it would annoy me no end

For me personally, the X is the most uncompelling phone Apple have ever released and I wouldn't buy one whatever the price was

That’s a big YES for me !

Yeah I hate the notch, it doesn’t make any sense to me and I’m also not entirely sold on FaceID yet but in my opinion the positives outweight the negatives and I’m willing to get used to a gestures based iOS if it wasn’t for that insane price.

I live in Europe and the price is just ridiculous here. To put things into perspective, the 256GB model cost 1149$ for you american people but here it’s 1329€ which is approximatively 1561$ in the US. See ? That’s an even more stupid high price for a phone.
And the 64GB model just isn’t enough, I was fine with 64GB on my iPhone 6 three years ago but that was when 1080p 60fps and 720p 240fps videos were the best options.

Anyway, I have been buying the latest and greatest iPhone since the iPhone 6 but I won’t do that because Apple have gone too far this time. And because my dumb ass decided to sold his iPhone 7 Plus two months before the keynote, I was even more disappointed when I heard of the iPhone X price so I went (again) with a regular iPhone 7 instead. The iPhone 8 just wasn’t enough of an upgrade for 200€ more (and 64GB versus 128GB for my iPhone 7) although I can totally see why a lot of people love the iPhone 8, especially the ones that come from an iPhone 6s or earlier.

I can honestly say that the price is not the reason why I am not going to get the iPhone x. The reason I'm getting the iPhone 8 Plus instead is because, a) it's an iconic design (to me) and b) it's going the be the last of its kind (with bezels). From hereon out most devices will no longer be distinguishable from one another in any meaningful ways aesthetically.

If priced at the same price as the current 8+ and with reasonable availability, I’d be willing to at least try it out. Who knows, maybe the notch doesn’t look so bad when you’re the one actually using the phone. But... I’d rather pay the price of the X for an 8+ with a good quality OLED display that has been properly calibrated and tested before being shoved out the door. Face ID... eh... one or the other is okay with me, but if I could have both in an 8+ with OLED, that would be sweet. Then I could be part of the glorious poop master race.

No way..The 4.7 I have now barely fits in my pocket and its certainly not comfortable. So Apple gets rid of the bezels yet the phone is taller? Then there is the notch to contend with, no touch id, and now you need to learn new gestures. I don't see me ever buying an ipX or larger. If I wanted to carry a large device around I'd just bring my ipad with me. It really seems pointless to go bezelless if you are going to increase the size of the phone regardless.

No, I don't like the look of the X at all - but I suspect my feelings would be different once we actually get to see it in person.

The reasons I didn't want to go for the X (other than the price) are:
  • Face ID - Nope, don't like it - don't think it's ready. I'll let others try it out for a couple of years before I take the jump. Touch ID is perfectly fine.
  • That notch. - Yeah yeah, I know. But I can guarantee in a year or two it'll be gone so I'd rather wait for that.

I just generally feel like it's rushed and hasn't really been thought out properly. They just wanted a special phone for the 10year anniversary. Had Apple waited one more year, I feel like the X would have been more of a finished product, instead of looking like a prototype.

Other than that, with new models I tend to wait a few years until they're perfected before I jump in. I'll let others test it out for a year or two :)

This pretty much sums it up for me. Price aside, I didn't want to jump in on the newest technology, I'll wait until it's been further refined. The notch isn't so much an issue for me if at all. My biggest issues are price--I could buy an entry level MBP for roughly the same $ and not being a fan of adopting the latest and greatest technologies.

That said, it is exciting to see where the future of iPhone is going and I hope those of you who are buying them are as happy with them as I am with my 8+.

No, for three reasons:

1) I had a Galaxy S8 and a Z2 Force over the summer, just recently getting my iPhone 8 Plus. As beautiful as those screens were, I still really prefer LCD displays. I understand why people use AMOLED in smartphone displays and I appreciate its advantages, but the burn-in is annoying enough to me, and I'm a big sucker for correct color accuracy. The 7+ and the current 8+ panels are honestly really beautiful to me (and can actually be seen in direct sunlight).

2) Face ID is a cool concept. To me, that's all it is. A concept. Maybe it's lightning fast and super accurate, but I've not seen it go through real world testing, and also, I just much prefer a physical sensor to touch or press.

3) 18:9 phones are cool, when they're done correctly. The Essential phone uses software tricks to maintain 18:9 while also hiding the front facing camera. Why Apple didn't do anything like this is beyond me.

Definitely an improvement with the dual camera set up with the 8+. Now with Portrait Lighting and Portrait mode, these are definitely expanded capabilities that will continue to improve. But I really do like the 10X digital zoom as well.

Price is the main factor. If it was in line with previous iPhones I’d give it a try. It’s current price just makes me laugh and consider the 8 or alternatives.

I don’t need to spend over a grand on a mobile phone to get a top level smartphone so the X is at a serious disadvantage in its current price bracket.

Apple doing a one to one exchange for American dollars to British Pounds is completely ridiculous. That alone would make me reconsider purchasing any Apple product if I resided in the UK. It's Apple nickel and diming the holy hell out of the Brits to pad their bottom line.

As for myself, it's not a money issue. I had no problem with getting an the $950 iPhone 8+. It's not a financial stretch to get the X. I just don't like the product.

If the price was reasonable, would you change your mind & go the iPhone X?

Be honest please.

Don't feel like getting X got 8 already. Don't know why that magical temptation is not there for X. Will ask my doctor, I think I need counseling.

Yeah I think the price you guys are paying for the X is the same as what we are paying for the 8 pretty much.

Apple have priced the X here so it’s uncompetitive against other similar products and it’s probably why I haven’t witnessed much of a buzz for it in our tech press. Pretty much every article is questioning its price and I think that is putting people off. If their next X release maintains this pricing it will be well off my radar in future. For me I could afford it, I just can’t justify paying that much for a smartphone. You don’t need to and it’s not like the X is the best smartphone at the moment either. It just feels like a money grab and probably fuelled by Apple being forced to pay €13b pretty soon. They appear to be punishing the European markets with pricing and I hope it backfires.

The Note 8 is about $150 USD less than the 256GB 8+ and about $280 USD less than the 256GB 10 in my country. That’s quite a difference.

No, I’m a plus user so the narrower screen and thus smaller screen for videos etc is a deal breaker for me.
Also annoyed the screen is inferior to Samsung’s latest Amoleds
Hopefully they will do a plus version of the X next year, I’ll buy that

The price is high, to me.
However, I'm in the notch hater camp so the what I am willing to pay for a product and it's functionality is keeping my wallet shut.
