I bought a 120Gb C300 to go in my new 15" 2.2Ghz 8Gb MBP.

I was going to buy a Vertex 3, but the extra cost, wait and risk of problems put me off.

Also, since the disk is really my only upgradable component, I figure I'll get a 256-512Gb drive in a few years time if/when they're cheaper, faster and more reliable.

Intel X-25M does not work well with my 15" MBP 2011 2.0 Ghz

I installed the Intel X-25M in my new 15" MBP, and there's a 20 - 60-second stall whenever I wake from sleep.

The same drive works great in my 2009 13" MBP, and reinstalling the operating system, resetting PRAM, resetting the power management, etc, does nothing to help.

Got the Intel X-25 160 GB G2 in mine with the TRIM patch enabled and works brilliantly in my 2011 MBP. The only time I'll upgrade is when higher capacity drives start coming down in price.

Jezthomp, Intel 320 is available on amazon.co.Uk and scan.

Get a new OWC drive. My original OWC SSD had sleep issues even with the very latest firmware (version 360). OWC swapped it out for me and the new drive, with the same firmware, works perfectly. There really are some drive parameters that aren't user-accessible that were messing up the sleep functionality of the earlier drives.

FWIW, this is for the current SATA-II OWC SSDs, not the 6G SATA-III drives which have just started to appear on their website.

I was very satisified with the way OWC handled the drive issues I was having (they actually initiated contact with me after a post I made on their blog) and will likely upgrade to their new SATA-III SSD once it starts shipping.

Getting a replacement from Crucial.

I'm sure that it wont work but giving it a go anyway.

I'll just get money back if it doesnt.

So thats 3 SSD's i've tried with my MBP all failed to live up to the job once physically inside the computer.

All work perfectly in an external enclosure.

I've seen others with my exact model run all 3 fine.

My computer must have something inside which doesn't like them.

I even got trim turned on with the Crucial and it registered that it was on, still was a pain though 🙁

Just got my OCZ Vertex 3 drive cloned up and rocking. This drive screams!!! I have a Vertex 2 that will be in an OptiBay as soon as I receive it. Right now it's in an external OWC enclosure via FireWire. Both OCZ drives have been great, with no issues at all.

Forgive my ignorance here but... whats the point in buying SATA 6gb/s type SSD's when the macbook pros dont have this ? the speeds will be much lower than they can reach on sata 3gb/s

Saying that my c300 is awesome on my PC running on on the 6gb/s port. Was thinking about getting an SSD for my 09 macbook pro just thought it be pointless spending all that cash on these new SSD's designed to run on the new SATA ports..

The 2011's do support SATA III, so it's useful there assuming the wrinkles get ironed out. Also, if you have a pre-2011 model you'll have a proper SSD if and when you do upgrade your machine if you grab the III now.

Oh? thats pretty cool! I didnt know the new MBP's had SATA3. So my 09 is no good with the SATA3 SSD's then. I would like to upgrade but dont see the need as of yet.

Your 09 should work fine with a SATA III drive, just won't get the full benefit yet.

Yeah I know but pointless though in my case since il only get SATA2 speeds. Unless a firmware is capable of doing something about it? but I doubt it.

Scan are very reliable, you can also check DABS and Overclockers.co.uk, used both company's before.

Is that the G1 or G2? I've got a G1 giving the same problem in my Macbook Pro 13" 2.7 i7 - going to be trying a firmware upgrade to see if that solves the issue.

Good links guy's, but I don't understand if the X25 is still on sale on Amazon how come the OP is saying he can't find anywhere that sells them???

Thanks for the options guys but i doubt anything is going to change.

I'll get this replacement C300 it wont work.

If i get that Intel it will be the same.

For some reason my MBP refuses to allow one to work properly inside it.

C300 256GB experience

I ordered the Crucial C300 the first week they were available. I've been running it in an older MacBook Pro for about a year now and have had zero problems. I paid about $800, and it was worth it. Of course I'm doing datamart development and it really speeds up queries.

Just reached the 25 day mark w/ my OCZ 120GB Vertex 3. I did not enable trim, ever. The drive still benchmarks as fast as it did day one and I have had NO problems. They computer has not been turned except once or twice since it's been installed.

Reliability problems my a$$ 🙂

Thats already been debunked by Anand at Anandtech. Too bad OWC feels they have to slime competitors instead of just making a better product. I and several people I know have had customer service issues with OWC so this makes me even less disposed to buy anything else from them.

I recommend for everyone who evaluates an SSD for a Mac to read the following post:
I find it a bit scary that some SSD manufacturers use 2nd quality "off spec" NAND Flash chips in their products - that's shocking!/QUOTE]
