You may not want a curved iPad but a flexible screen means a screen that will not shatter if dropped, pretty much for the same reason a pair of socks don't shatter when you drop them or place a heavy object on them.

I believe that has less to do with the fact that socks are flexible and more to do with material choice

Bad Photoshop job

Why the need to deceive public with badly Photoshopped closeup of hand with product?

I have to laugh, because it's not an apple technology, everyone on here seems to be dissing it wondering what the application would be. To non isheep, the most logical application would be a watch come phone, wristbands, rollable screens etc. no doubt when Samsung release a product, the apple fans will be calling it!!!

God you people are such idiots and negative Nancy's. I'm sorry that Apple isn't coming out with a flexable screen.

This could actually be very useful for shatterproof phones. I know I'd love to have a phone that could be dropped and not break because the screen is flexable.

Curved = Flexable.

I'm curious to see what advantages these displays will offer once they are released. If they offer greater durability and better viewing in sunlight it could be a game changer.

And here it is... Not sure what the advantage of a curved display is (at least when done like this). But that fake stitched leather back will certainly make Forstall a fan.

What the hell dictionary are you looking in bud?
"curved |kəːvd| adjective
having the form of a curve"
"flexible |ˈflɛksɪb(ə)l| adjective
capable of bending easily without breaking"

Pure gimmick unless someone makes this look really, really good. Wouldn't a large, bent display feel terrible in the hand?

Hold your hand up with your fingers naturally relaxed and curled in a bit.

A curved back would fit your palm better.

The curved display would feel better to a thumb's natural range of motion, plus it could reach slightly further in the direction of the curve.

That said, my hope is that the Samsung Round isn't about a curve like that.

Instead, it could be about wrapping the screen around the edge(s), to serve as status and notification areas.

I like socks,.....

bendable screens ?? what is the world coming too..

Soon we'll be walking round the corer of our walls to get the big picture of Hollywood films.

What's the benefit of a curved screen? Wont that mean you now have to turn the phone left and right or up and down to see the whole screen? It's like reading a label on a bottle.

If this video is real, it is just curved. Which is okay, and I'm sure it's a very comfortable phone to hold, but it's not the really cool wrap-around display that I was hoping to hit production.

ANDDDDDDDD SAMSUNG WIN THE RACE....again. The phone was announced. Samsung Round, though it is a disappointment, I was hoping for the phone face, tablet inside, or the notifications, this simply "rolls", so you can see notif's.

Plus Apple doesn't have corning gorilla glass, so I doubt Corning Willow will be on Apple devices, so Apple will have to find another one.

And Apple are behind again. :(

YouTube: video

Yeah, I was seriously hoping they would release the concept phones they showed off at CES http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TmQ7SlvYMzk

No matter--This question goes unanswered in Samsung design meetings. They only question they care about is "can it be done?"

1. Won't Shatter
2. Easier to hold
3. Easily fit's in your pocket, with a larger screen
4. Takes Phablet to new level.
What isn't useful? But I wish that Samsung Round didn't suck! Samsung has fallen into the same pit as Apple did.

Yeah, I love those folding phone concepts. Unfortunately, from what I've seen, currently a few flexible traces always end up breaking after a while, if bent that far. We're not there yet, but close.

So I was instead hoping for at least a phone with the screen wrapped around one or more edges. Heck, if you had a phone with the screen wrapped around the entire case, you could change the "wallpaper" and have a different colored phone every day :)
