FYI, lining up has never guaranteed a product. I was first in line for the 5S Launch and I wasn't able to get the one I want.

I have been in line for just about every apple product and yes get there soon enough and yes it did gaurentee you got something. Now I ordered at 3:03am what I thought was soon enough and I don't have anything on launch day what a horrible experience. I would have rather waited in line at an Apple Store and enjoyed talking to other apple fans along the way

Ps first in line for 5s and you got nothing I find that hard to believe what did you do get in line at an att store

With the limited stock there are now YOU WOULD LIKELY HAVE GOT NOTHING. Simple as that (especially because there has been pre-orders in other Apple launches too).

So, the stocks in stores would have been pathetic (right now, there are only 5-6 stores in the whole world with decent stocks, and that's only maybe 3000 watches), black bands, milanese, most 42 mm watches would all have disappeared within minutes. After 1h, nothing would be left : not even the 38mm sports with white bands.

Customers Lining Up At Boutiques Carrying Apple Watch Ahead of Launch

Yay! I made a reservation to get my Apple Watch in Dover Street London!!! Screw the June wait. But man I spent 2 hours calling Dover Street as they keep rejecting my call attempts.

Now I have to wait until Monday :(

Dsm?

Been trying DSM for last hour - either constantly engaged or if you do get a ringing tone it rings and rings and no answer. Anyone who got an appointment at DSM or got through to them able to confirm what stock they have? Are they just stocking a few high priced models or do they have the whole range?

I asked, they said they have limited stock. I said I want any Watch Sport model and they said they have a lot of those.

By the way if you got a ringing tone, DO NOT hang up. Let it keep ringing. I let mine ring for 3 minutes then someone picked up.

Well, the mid range watch with link costs $1050, so it is in the ballpark. They're probably getting great media exposure out of it; probably the reason they decided to do this.

Not even close.

People who pay 1000 dollars for jeans tend to wear watches above $10000 range, which only the Edition fits (although I have not yet met someone who will buy the Apple watch edition).

Fine dont believe me, but it's true. I wanted the Gold 5S for verizon and the Apple store I was at only received one gold iPhone 5s and it was for at&t

So finally got Mine!
That was bizarre they run out of the Silver Sport models but they had plenty of space greys today!

Challenge Accepted!

I'm sure we could come up with a dumber name. Apple Midas watch, apple watch elitist, Apple watch tool time, Apple watch Bling bling

Apple XPS 8700 Special Edition Performance
Apple Genuine Advantage Home Premium Enterprise Edition
Apple OnTime
Watch This!

I think macrumors has to update this article. You CAN, in fact purchase an apple watch at an apple store today. (Source: Referring to an article on The Verge.)
I won't link it in here but you guys can check it out on their front page.

And I don't know why people are so aggressive at those people waiting in line. /sigh

This story sounds familiar... Was this at the Biltmore Apple Store in Phoenix? I remember hearing this story multiple times while standing in line for the 6.

I went to my local store to try the Watch on. They had a ton of staff in. I asked the person serving me if they'd been busy. He said "Not really. We've got lots of staff in because it's a launch day, but because you can't buy it in store it's been quiet."

Who in the world was in charge of naming the Apple Watch Edition. Am I the only one who thinks that is the dumbest name anyone could possibly come up with?

No dumber than "Complications". I just assumed it was the kind of name high end fashion watches might get. I assumed Apple used that type of name as part of the "This isn't geeky, it's fashionable" marketing.

I tried calling DSM most of the morning, was hitting redial for over 2 hours earlier, got through at one stage but they didn't pick up before the line cut me off. Eventually got through to be told that all weekend appts had gone but I managed to get one on Monday.

They wouldn't discuss available models or stock levels with me, just said I'd have to chance it and find out when I got there

DSM London are no longer taking any appointments according to the website. I just hope on Monday a Sport model that isn't pink is ready for me.

Plus models cost more.

It'd be funny though if this store only has the 17K model.

With real GOLD leaf stickers.

Sorry, if I don't feel the watch hype and can only make sarcastic comments.

Always wishing everybody well, but let's see gen 2 and we'll talk.

At least "complications" is an accepted term for the "widgets" of classic mechanical watches, and Apple's use of the term is a tribute to (or mockery of) that. Apple Watch Edition is just poor grammar.

Is it just poor grammar, or is it exactly the kind of name a $10,000 watch would have? I assumed the latter. Are you certain it's not? :)

This launch seems like a big mess. It feels very unorganized. I hope they get the kinks worked out quickly and everyone is able to enjoy their new watch, soon.

Although I only own less expensive watches in steel and plastic, I have done my fair share of browsing for watches in that price range. Many of them have pretentious or bombastic names, but I have never come across anything that screams "HEY! There's a word missing here!" quite like the Apple Watch Edition does.
