Looks like trouble is brewing. Let the lawsuits begin.:apple:

Trouble is definitely brewing. Does MCX own those terminals? If so, it's likely that these stores don't have a choice other than install new terminals in all their stores. That is a lot of $. This isn't even just about ApplePay as Google Wallet is affected too.

I would find it very very fascinating is Apple & Google worked together to get this business squashed. Imagine being the target of an Apple & Google temporary truce. Long shot but boy would that be amusing!

I tried using Apple Pay twice this morning at a Whatabuger (TX) and McDonalds drive-thrus but I couldn't get a response from the transaction device. Anyone else have similar problems at devices that display the hand icon?

"We're not supporting the services (Google Wallet & ApplePay) actually work NOW, we're blocking it and waiting until next year to use our own"

My guess is that Apple oppressive consumer and business dealings play a large role in this. Apple likes to tell you what you can and can't do with EVERYTHING. This is a long term problem for Apple IMO.

Nope. Merchants don't have to pay apple a dime to use apple pay. Their terminals don't even have to be aware of apple pay. No dealings with apple whatsoever.

I'm thinking that I will just boycott all retailers backing CurrentC. Some of these companies are definitely not in a position where they can throw away customers. Shareholders will demand answers.

It's almost like being on the wrong side of history. These idiots at the top have to be pretty short sighted to not realize apple pay is going to be the de facto STANDARD in a very short period of time.

Exactly, not all cvs customers have iPhones. This other system will work eith every smart phone.

What in the blue hell are you yammering about? They have a system currently that if they did nothing, would support google wallet and apple pay and anyone with an NFC credit card.

They turned that off TODAY because sometime NEXT YEAR around thanksgiving, they'll have a new payment system.

What am I missing?

"We'll have a mobile wallet for you NEXT YEAR."

I've heard that for years already. I'm done hearing it. F' MCX and any merchant that calls itself a member. Time to do research and get creative where my $$ goes.

The list is pretty long. There is at least one that is an ApplePay partner AND an MCX member too (Wegmans maybe?). Not sure how that is going to fly.

CurrentC is in active beta right now, that much I know.

ETA: Meijer is the double-dipper - thanks Bruiser!

For everybody whining already, perhaps it would be nice to think about why they might do this? It's not like this is a service Apple is providing for free. Just because you don't have to pay for it doesn't mean somebody isn't. I don't know what Apple takes from these transactions and it is certainly not unheard of to have higher rates for those that are not affiliated with a certain program, so it could very well be that paying through Apple Pay costs them all or most of their margin.

Now I don't know about you guys, but if I had a company and customer convenience like Apple Pay cost me my margins I'd cut it off faster than you can say Apple Pay. None of you guys work for free, and neither should shops.

Usually the device needs to be prompted by the cashier first. So if the cashier is still in "tally order" mode, then the scanner is off. Cashier needs to indicate "Credit" on the terminal first and then you should be able to scan....

(Just my theory...not sure what your specific circumstance was...)

This is getting comical.

The double member is Meijer. Will be interesting to see which one they go with or if they stay in both programs.

Damn this pisses me off! I was actually excited about Apple Pay because of a brand new CVS less than a mile from my house...it's really the only place I used it regularly. Nearest Walgreens is 5 miles away and I actually prefer this CVS since its brand new. This sucks.

Where the folks who said they are going to start shopping at CVS because rite aid was diabling NFC? Where are they going to run to now? Lol.

The total number of iPhone 6 owners, with Apple Pay, is an unseen blip in the total consuming public, these companies won't even notice.

Disgruntled, self-entitled iPhone 6 users only have a say on the MR forum. Think about it ... in a country of 350 million people how many of those own iPhone 6s?

They don't use terminals - they scan a QR code on your phone in an app, and it is linked to a form of payment. One option being linking a checking account for ACH payments.

This bypasses any merchant fees.
