daily life with the 6s plus

Had the 6, picked up a 6s+ on launch day, and exchanged it for the 6s yesterday. I have medium sized hands, but could not get used to the size and bulk. I initially tried it naked, fumbled and dropped it a few times, and then put an Apple leather case on it. While the case really improved the grip, it was just too big to use comfortably one handed, which I now realize is how I predominately use the phone. I also noticed that, wearing looser shorts or pants and because of the weight, the phone would begin to slip out of my pocket in my car and at a movie theater. I really liked the screen resolution and ease of typing, but the convenience of the smaller form factor was overwhelming. Battery really wasn't an issue for me - I work in an office and have a charger in my car. Definitely a personal preference with different people having different priorities.

OP I originally bought the 6 when it came out because I shared some of your concerns. The first time I used my wife's 6+ I then sold the 6 and got the 6+. :) Your concerns are valid, but for me the battery, screen, and camera improvements far outweigh the additional size. Just realize that you will probably want to use two hands for some things you did before with one hand, but that's a personal decision and you'll get used to it quickly.

Definitely a personal preference. I considered going down to a 6S from a 6+ this time around but just couldn't bring myself to do it.

Between the extra screen real estate, HD screen, OIS, and battery I felt like I was making too many compromises. If the phones were more similarly spec'd, I supposed it would be worth reevaluating.

Obviously there are a lot of personal choices to be made when deciding which one to get. I just went from a 5s to a 6s Plus. For me, it was the most difficult decision I've ever made with an Apple product. Usually the choice is always obvious to me, but this one was really, really difficult.

The 6s feels great in my hands. It appears to be the perfect compromise of size, weight, and screen real estate when all three of these things are compared together. With that being said though, the 6s Plus has a really gorgeous screen, better battery, and as a professional photographer, I very much appreciate the OIS that the 6 Plus brings to the table. Obviously, 99% of my professional work is not taken with an iPhone, but I love taking pictures no matter where I'm at!

So I decided to go with the Plus. I can't offer an opinion on the day-to-day handling of the size yet because I spent the better part of the last two days kayaking in the ocean, so I didn't have my new iPhone with me. However, in a month or two, I should be able to tell if it's the right size for me.

I've enjoyed reading the responses in this thread. Good luck sorting out which option works for you.

I am thinking of going to the 6s plus from the 6, I need some insight on daily life with the plus, going to the gym, work, grocery store etc, also has it been a pain or a joy, is the battery life and ois worth the portability of the smaller 6s .

To save you from reading what was posted so far, and what will be posted, everything boils down to the following:

Many people find the 6+/6S+ too large to handle, and prefer the 4.7" model.

Equally many people love the larger 5.5" screens of the6+/6S+, and refuse to use anything smaller.

I've had the 6 Plus for about a year, and would not go back. Just upgraded to the 6s Plus.

That said, it IS too big. It's sometimes awkward in the pocket (fits fine in slacks, but it's a bit bulky in jeans, and really doesn't fit well at all in gym or sweat pants or shorts). I typically take it out of my pocket when sitting down. One handed use is difficult.

So why do I still prefer it? Because this isn't just a phone to me anymore. It's a pocket computer. I accomplish so many things with the device and I truly appreciate the bigger, sharper screen. It's MUCH easier to type on in portrait orientation than the smaller phones. Reading a web page without zooming in is feasible. Photos look amazing and it's far easier to see the detail of what you are shooting.

So in the balance, it's the right choice for me. I do look forward to how Apple might reduce the width and height of the device when iPhone 7 comes around.

Also I have an Apple Watch which gives me access to key phone functions without pulling it out of my pocket or going back to my desk for it. That really helps.

The few times I find the phone a bit big to carry around and completely negated each time I use it. And the phone easily fits into my pockets - shirt or pants is not a problem.

I've moved to the 6s+ and find it awkward to use in public. I'm downsizing back to the regular size. I think it's a great device but for me I found that using it in public when I need to do a quick web search or work out a quick map route is too much of a chore (by having to use two hands).

If I was at home then the device is fine. Maybe the next iteration of iPhones will introduce a 5" as I think that would be my ideal size.

I have the 6 plus and find it now a year later - to be too big.
Driving - getting in and out of the car, I need to remove it from my pocket.
Sitting on the couch - take it out of my pocket.
Commuting - doesn't work well one handed.
Running - too big, I avoid taking it with me, even though I have an arm pocket for it.

If I have an opportunity, I'll downsize to the 6s but given how much money I spent on this, its hard to justify spending more money a year later.

this. completely.

i have 2 kids and not having to do one more thing (as simple and easy as taking a phone out of my pocket) is worth a lot. the size issue on top of my 6+ being buggy made me want the 6s badly. after a few days, best decision ever in terms of phones.

That's fine, I think there's a large market for the phablet type phones, all I can provide is my personal experience :)

I wish everyone could keep that perspective on things. Too often I see people elevating their own reactions, perceptions, or usages of a particular gadget into some universal truth, and think anyone who disagrees is either stupid or delusional.

I haven't seen any of that in this thread. Just people posting their opinions. I like the 6S+, but I understand why others like the 6S.

Unfortunately, what you describe is just a way of life here.

This is the stuff I want to hear about. I was contemplating buying the S Plus outright but after hearing the little daily struggles, I'm gonna sit back and wait for the regular size 7.

Coming from 5s I love this 6s plus and I think I will never go back to a smaller phone. It is really more of a personal preference and what kind of clothes you wear on your everyday life.. I.e Skinny Jeans, Cargo Pants, or do you carry a bag? Who needs an ipad mini if you have an Iphone 6s plus... So buying Ipad pro is the more practical choice.

I had the 6 plus and switched to the 6s. I used to complain that the plus was too big to carry and of course that it didn't fit in my pockets etc.

After using the 6s for a few days I desperately miss the plus. I find I still use the 6s with two hands like I did the plus and I don't put the 6s in my pocket anyway. I miss the battery life and beautiful big screen of the plus. Yes it can be annoying to carry but in hindsight it wasn't so bad.
This is why I went from the 6 to the plus. I thought I used the phone one handed much more than I actually did. After a few days with the plus, it feels very natural in my hands.

I pick up my 6 and know I could never leave my 6S+. The screen, keyboard all work for me. I also use a small waist pack for my runs or with pants with no pockets and it fits nicely next to the GLOCK!

I used a 6 for the last 3 months in a trade of my Nexus 6. Loved getting back to iOS but the screen was entirely too small for me.

I got the 6s+ and all the great reasons came back instantly for the Plus line. Battery, a bigger keyboard definitely was something i missed, and then just the beautiful screen. It's so vibrant and bright on the Plus.

I will say since having an Apple Watch though I find a bigger phone even less of a burden as I take it out maybe 50% less than I did before it not more? That has increased battery life substantially and made a great companion to my bigger phone.

In an ideal world I would have a 6s in my pocket, a 6s when I'm only able to use one hand, and a 6s plus for literally everything else.

For gym and running I have a flip belt. I couldn't recommend it more highly to anyone who does ohysicslly activity with their phones. So long as you get a belt that fits your waist (it's spandex but I bought one that was too big at first since I was dumb and didn't look at measurements just went with a Large), you will love it. It also keeps my phone dry as a bone.

I do agree that it can be cumbersome in the pocket, especially in and out of the car; it more easily slips out. In warm weather its second nature for me to pull it out now. In colder weather I keep it in a coat pocket anyway, regardless of phone size.

The screen size makes up for any shortcomings. I'm very happy with it. The 6s plusperformance more than makes up for what I considered a sub par (lag, Safari crashing and tab reloading, etc) experience on the 6 plus.

Couldn't be without now

Went from 5s to 6+ last year. Phoned seemed huge. Took days to realise it was the right decision. Liked it within hours.

This year I upgraded to 6s+ and got wife a 6s.

Great for her but I wouldn't go back to a smaller phone, even the 6.

Only time I bother taking my phone out of my pocket is if I'm climbing about doing diy stuff like getting in roof space etc crazy stuff you would normally remove your phone for. Daily life it's fine!

When the 6 and 6+ came out, I balked at the size of the 6+ and went for the 6. At the time it was still a decent screen bump from the 5. After a month I had the 6 in a battery case because that was the only way I could get through a day without charging.

I held up my 6(in the case) to my friend's 6+ and realized that my 6 was the same height and double the thickness of the 6+(the plus is still wider). At that point, I decided to upgrade to the plus when the new model came out.

Battery life has been good so far on the 6S+ and I don't even realize the phone is larger anymore.
