There's an Apple store in Kabul? What

I've used Dells for 15 years and Mac laptops longer than that. I've owned maybe at least a dozen Apple laptops. At least half the Apple laptops had issues, serious ones like failing logic boards just after a year. Hinges. Screen ribbon. Batteries ruining the laptop. The iBook g3 we had was in the shop five times for months at Apple. Logic board.

I've had many Dells and never had a problem, nor most all of my coworkers. Windows has never been a problem for me going back to Windows 3.1 (which sucked, but it worked).

And I wont go into the keyboard issues with the current machines that more than 2 family members have, along with the failing screen ribbon - out of warranty.
From all Macs I have ever owned I had only 2 issues, broken wifi card in one iMac and plastic cracking on a 2006 macbook. last 12 years i had no hardware issue whatsoever.

Glad it's worked out for you. My problems started with a MacSE back in 1990. Most of our laptops have had problems - myself and immediate family. Apple gets too much praise. I know, someone will say or think, "well, why don't you get a PC."
[doublepost=1562631053][/doublepost]The point should be that Apple is not "all that."

It’s as I said. Different experiences create different biases of vendors. My experience, as stated earlier is completely opposite of yours. In the end it comes down to the luck of the draw.[/QUOTEY

That's really low of Apple to do. But I knew this would start being a problem when they started gluing everything together. People need access to a Macbook Pro's insides. Not everyone needs to upgrade it themselves, but it would help see if there was a swollen battery or something. I'm still using a 2011 for that reason. But my next computer will probably be a Hackintosh or just a straight-up Windows self-built PC. I hate the Windows UI with a passion, but Apple has given me no other option. The closest thing is an iMac but most of them have a base 8GB of RAM that is not user upgradable. I like that Apple is at least moving in a better direction with the cheese grater Mac Pros. But regular pro consumers are not going to shell out that kind of money on a PC. It would be nice if they made the same decision with user-upgradability on their Pro laptops. But I don't see that happening anytime soon. And it definitely shouldn't stop them from being able to repair your machine.

Yes, upgrades are possible now, if you pay $6000 for a computer.

Really, I used to dislike Windows a lot. As I used it at work, and as time went on, Windows 7 Pro at work fine, nothing to love. Windows 10 Pro is really nice. If I dislike anything about it, it is offset by what I love about it. Same for going from iOS to a Pixel phone. It's about the same. Now MacOS and iOS feel too simple. They are not bad at all as we know, but whatever floats our boat.

So, after using Mac forever at home, I'm very happy with Windows 10 Pro. MS is really moving along and far more focused now based on the way they are doing the business. I thought I'd have to hold my nose a bit to use it, but very happy now. I have an iPad, but I pretty much never use it.

You just had a really bad luck then. That’s it. Don’t overthink it. It will fail for someone, just like anything created by man. You are just exceptionally unfortunate.

Yet some apple fans talk crap about note 7 explosion.... what? It’s too quiet.

There was a single explosion and a voluntary recall issued immediately, Samsung..went kicking and screaming and was forced into recalling. Planes wouldn’t even allow them on. This is actually a positive in my view.

I just got mine back today from this recall. I don't know if it's a factor that I never stressed the battery (only about a single cycle per week), but I never had any issues with it.

My main concern was that they didn't "mess up" anything else with it since it's the best laptop I've ever had. Somebody in a related thread said his got back with case damage, one USB port non-functional, etc.

FWIW, I can confirm that mine definitely did not receive an entire top case with new keyboard, etc. It only got the battery replacement. It's interesting that some folks are getting all that new stuff. I wonder what causes some to receive all that and others like myself to just get the new battery?

Anyway, there is nothing amiss on it and everything is working fine (phew!). Also kind of nice to see that "Cycles: 0" in system info...hehe. The only thing left to worry about in my mind is how long before *this* new battery explodes and blows me up. If they didn't know before, could they not know again...? :/

Hello brewmonkey, Same here... 4 months before I had a full top case replacement including battery (and speaker because Apple broke it up while they were replacing the top case).
Now, the 24th june 2019 i've sent my mbpro 15" mid 2015 I knew that Apple was replacing the top case but once I had my mbpro back, I saw that the top case was the same I had before and in the recipe was written that only battery was replaced... Who knows how! I also called apple to better understand but that's it... ONLY battery replacement.
Some of you know smthing about that?

Mine was part of the recall. I dropped it in to my Apple store on Sunday afternoon and picked it up Tuesday after work after they said they replaced and tested the new battery - so a very quick turnaround. They told me that they had cleared the backlog of work to make room for this recall as they knew the recall was coming. They did tell me the top part would be replaced (but not the keys etc)- the invoice with Zero balance on it as it was paid for by Apple - shows the battery, labour and replaced "top part" at the cost of $667.00 Aussie Dollars (no charge to me of course) - they gave me a copy of the invoice with the work done on my MBP.

Hi @gollys, they told me the same, excepted that the entire top case will be replaced. It seems I only had a battery replacement... Can you send me the invoice to see what part has been replaced? I can send my invoice's details.
Thank you!

Are you reporting that Macbooks are exploding after being fully shut down?

No moron. I am suggesting that shipping laptops with potential exploding batteries is not safe.

Shipping laptops with a charged battery is not safe, as suggested by the FAA in 2017.

Jesus, we all bow down to your MENSA status, how do you propose Apple shall receive these laptops, perhaps Scotty can beam them over.

And given your elite mental status it is surprising you provided no context with the 2017 FAA reference, they were concerned with aerosol cans stored next to the laptop which could potentially trigger an explosion, other items that are allowed in carry ons/checked baggage and could spread the fire faster than it could be contained by Halon were nail polish remover, hand sanitizers, and rubbing alcohol.

A laptop shipped by itself would not be in this category.

I have a problem.
I have mid-2015 MBP 15, with swollen battery and overheating.

But my check of my serial shows that I am not eligible for recall program.
And in local apple store they say that if serial is not part of the program, I have to pay for replacement myself.

Tried to contact apple support by phone, same answer. “Not in database, you have to pay”. And I am really pissed off.
2 month ago all serials were not part of the database, and apple refused whole existence of the problem, and what?

I already had story with mbp 2010 and infamous gpu glitch, which Apple refused to admit for what? 2 or 3 years, if I recall right. And then suddenly it became eligible.

Now this battery.

What else can I do?
It is not that I can’t afford new battery, it is just I am tired of this approach. Apple I knew in the past was quite different with those things, than now.
It is not cheapest hardware to expect to expect such behavior.

This is factual nonsense. (well not the plane issue, yes, they were barred from planes)

Samsung had < 30 devices out of the few million that caught fire. A full recall of all notes was issued within 2 weeks of product launch (Launch Aug 19th, recall Sept 2)

The 15" 2015 MacBook's with this battery problem have been out, on the shelves and running in the wild for FOUR YEARS BEFORE A RECALL IS ISSUED.

and thats a positive thing? What twisted logic brought you to this conclusion?

Keep calling and emailing until you find someone who will fix it for free.

I DO NOT trust Apple certified repair centers, I've worked in IT for over 30 years, I usually repair my own computers and replace parts, if component level repair is needed, I got people that can do that and know what they are doing and I trust them.
My serial check returned: "The serial number you entered may be eligible for this program"
I assume this means that it may or may not need replacement, in case it does, I would have to let Apple ship it to one of their repair centers, having first hand knowledge about how some of those work, what kind of employees they have and practices scares the living crap out of me. This is my best MBP even. I have the previous models as well and I would never buy one of the new ones until their engineers stop eating crayons. I could buy a new battery and replace it myself and take the hit, or risk some underpaid, under trained overworked low tier tech take this one appart and hope he does not mess something else up.

This is what I HATE about how Apple has become as a company, that I fear they will F@# up my computer while they replace a BATTERY, not sure what to do really....
