Damn. (Smashed iPhone)

over the summer, I accidently spilled a beer on my friends iPhone and it was completely submerged in beer for the entire night (6hrs plus) and did not even power on. Needless to say we were hammered, but the good part of the story is the non functional phone still fetched over $400 on eBay! These things are real gems on ebay for some reason and I recommend listing yours and seeing what you get. Odds are you will make at least $200 for your phone especially if it still works somewhat.
 
ifixit.com? I heard that the glass for an iphone can be had for around $10 dont know if thats true or not.
 
Just sync it with your computer so you have your app on your iTunes account. You should be able to just sync your new iPhone (if you get one) with your old iTunes account.
 
Thanks, but I meant the jailbroken apps.

A few things:
1. It's jailbroken, so yeah I have to restore, but if they by some luck or an angel deciding to cut me a break decide out of the generosity lost in the black hole of a heart they have find the time to replace it, will they replace the screen or the entire phone? The phone has a few dents but I mean, the screen is the main issue for me right now.

2. If they don't, I have bought biteSMS, and the thing is I think its attached to the ID of the phone or something, so how would I go about that or should I just contact them about the problem?

Yeah, but I don't want to mess it up anymore. I'm going to see what Apple decides to do first, but I most likely will probably end up doing it myself. The small cracked pieces are falling off, so more of the interior is visable.

Depending on how much is left in your contract you might be able to sign a new contract and get one for cheaper then it would cost to fix the old one. Possible as low as $99 if you wait to get a refurb.

Should have mentioned it's unlocked also.
 
it will cost you $300 for the 16gb or $199 for thhe 8gb... believe me.. i dropped my phone and it looked EXACTLY like yours.. I took it to the apple store.. everything still worked on it.. including the touch screen..


I ended up buying a glass + digitizer on ebay for $30 and replaced it... it is not an easy install and me being a technie took 3 hours.. but VERY much so worth the $270 i saved.. if you have any questions feel free to PM me.
 
Yeah, thats what I figured. I didnt think it was THAT easy. I will have time to spare this weekend.

Oh no, its on AT&T. Just not the iPhone plan or anything. I have a Blackberry, traded, and unlocked the iPhone with the current SIM card I was using.

Yeah, they decided to charge me. However, I had a friend who works there and he told me to take it to another store who can fix it for $70 on the spot.
 
Apps are linked to your iTunes account, and can be installed on an unlimited number of phones.

As far as the phone being unlocked and not being on a proper AT&T plan, they'll refuse to touch it.

Oh, I'll add this... I dropped my iPhone 2G and broke the glass as well, so I bought the LCD and digitizer to replace it. Cost at the end was, yep, another iPhone. Seriously, don't try it yourself. Try to find some place that'll fix it - maybe some mall store, or one of the online shops?
 
I feel your pain, i have my screen smashed also, but my phone fell from my bed! one foot drop, it hit the glass ( i had a glass cup) i dont know, it probably hit "the spot" cuz it cracked, but it works fine, the crack is near the Home button.

Screen will cost you at least $120

They wanted to charge me $200, how is the glass the cost of 66% of the entire freaking phone?
 
So I guess I'm just **** out of luck? There's no way I can shell out $200 just for a piece of glass, I don't know the name of any store that can fix it at a reasonable price, and I don't want to **** it up myself.

not at all... i cracked mine slightly, no where as bad as yours, and i just got back from getting mine fixed!!

i just went on my local Craigslist, typed in iPhone 3G repair, and pages of ads came up. Find a legit ad, call them up, and pay them to replace the glass.

Mine cost me $70 for a 3G. I know the 1st gen's LCD & digitizer are together, making it cost more. The guy i went too said he could do a 1st gen for 115.

Go check it out.

Well its like people who I read that need the screen replaced on a Macbook. I heard as much as $850 for the screen when the Macbook is just $500 more (depending on what is added to it).
I know accidents happen, but paying that much for a screen is nuts. I know Best Buy has their own accidental warranty for the iPhone, but its $15.00 a month. So for the 2 year contract its $360 for the 2 years.. ouch.
I got the Otter Box for my 3G. The guy at the at&t store had one for his iPhone and threw it on the floor against the wall and it was still fine. It does add for to the size, but I can still stick it in my pocket.
I know it's too late for this case, but if you get a 3G I highly recommend this case and I am very sorry about your damage.
