Awesome. I still remember the good old days when we discussed the tech specs of the newest Macs to detail... Now people get excited about "50-shades-of-grey" of device enclosures and that a new iPhone might be also available in almost black? I am so excited, I guess I just wet my pants...

Just reminded me why I don't mind coming here anymore. Staying with Apple as a user is just because of reminiscence these days. It is iike a marriage after many years when you realize that you grew apart but a separation is still considered too painful...
That is indeed a bit sad. Apple computers were the best really not that long ago. Now even my Apple enthusiast husband has moved most of his work onto a Surface Pro and is planning to go back to building desktop power machines like he did before Apple computers became the most stable, reliable and powerful for his needs. There are still things that can't be easily and gracefully done on a tablet or a laptop. Things you need a lot of raw power for. Apple doesn't seem interested in catering to that market anymore. It's all about fashion now.

The first time I decide I should go with white/silver... they finally do something like this. we'll see, we'll see

Funny how if a concept design had a camera bulge, we'd be trashing the guy all day long.

Apple does it in an actual phone and it's fine. The fact that my "sleek and modern" Apple phone can't even sit flat on a desk is pathetic. Yes, I know many people keep their phone in a case.

Love the dark colors in this design though.

I imagine that's why they discontinued the black color until now. But being that they have the watch in black, I'm assuming they've improved their coloring methods.

I hope so, I still have that black iPhone 5 around here somewhere. Looked beautiful when new, not so much after 2 years

So...it's black.

Cool, though. Black was a good color for the iPhone and I never thought they should've gotten rid of it.

But yeah, re-introducing black is innovative, I guess... :p

I've never managed to appreciate these concept things. There is certainly an audience that finds them interesting, but all I see every time is "here is what it *won't* look like". So 99 times out of a hundred, it is a false rumor, which is hard to get at all excited about. Forgive my grumbling!

I often see these "what if" conceptions and think, I could produce a 3D render of myself sitting in a magnificent palace with solid gold furniture and illuminated with costly jewels and ornaments. But, why? You can't fix the future just like you can't change the past. We live in the here and now. You dig, bro'?

“We sent our design team to the farthest reaches of our galaxy – and they came back with something very special. Introducing, Apple Deep Space Gray. It’s a beautiful color only the team at Apple could have imagined.”
Yeah okay Ive....

Not sure why people care about the back of phone so much.

because "OMG, look at the Apple logo - it's so shiny and people can see that my new phone is the new model because it's a different shade of black!

Why Must apple always taketh when they addeth..

They should just have the same most popular colors available every year as staples and add a unique color in addition to these staples for new model.

2017
Staples: Space Gray, Black, White, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Unique: Deep Blue

2018
Staples: Space Gray, Black, White, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Unique: Hot red

2019
Staples: Space Gray, Black, White, Silver, Gold, Rose Gold
Unique: Turd Brown

Looks nice, but no headphone jack and no cell-phone carrier subsidizes = no sale.

So now because there's a rumor of a slightly different tone of the space grey everyone is optimistic all of a sudden? If this phone becomes popular because of the new grey and one less antenna band line, Apple has reached a new level of emperors new clothes beyond anything I've ever seen.... No man that superficial can ever judge women buying silly expensive bags over and over - this is worse tbh. (Facepalm)

How did you get the poop emoji to show up in your post? Emojis, IOS 10 is going to have seriously blingy iMessage effects. Surely that's exciting news, too! Glittery poop emojis on my new Odyssey Black IPhone. I'm so excited! /s

Oh well I still prefer IPhones to Android phones. For now. Apple had better pull out all the stops in 2017 and really wow me. I admit I'm a bit shocked that the rumors point to the 2016 model having more of an S-style upgrade. But if the rumors are true, it all fits in with 2016 being a year of suckage, with all that's been happening in the world in general. So a modest iPhone upgrade for this year kind of barely even rates on the suckage meter for the year.

i could care less what color the phone is. they're too fragile to not have in a case all the time anyways... i am VERY interested in the dark mode though... sick of being blinded by messages at 2am

I would love to have this dark mode. But I would like it implemented as a night shift feature. I would use White during the day and black or darkened scenes during the night.

Following rumors suggesting Apple's iPhone 7 will be available in a much darker Space Gray color that's close to, but not quite black, designer Martin Hajek has created renderings exploring what such a device might look like.

Using the iPhone 7 design rumors pointing towards a larger camera, no headphone jack, and relocated antenna bands, Hajek has created an iPhone 7 rendering in a deep shade of gray that's close to the color of the Space Black Apple Watch.

In Hajek's concept, the iPhone 7 is a much darker shade of gray than the Space Gray iPhone 6s, appearing even darker than the black and slate iPhone 5.

Over the years, Apple has used several different shades of Space Gray, Black, and Slate across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch product lines, with some shades that are much darker than others. Apple's most recent products, the iPhone 6s and the iPad Pro, feature a light shade of Space Gray, and a darker Space Gray could differentiate the iPhone 7 from earlier devices.

Rumors of a darker Space Gray or Space Black iPhone 7 first surfaced earlier this week, when Japanese site Mac Otakara clarified that a rumor suggesting a deep blue iPhone 7 was in the works was mistaken. The site, which reported the deep blue color in early June, said its source had misidentified a darker space gray for a shade of blue.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September with an iPhone 6s-style design, no headphone jack, an A10 processor, a better camera (larger sensor for the iPhone 7 and dual-lens for the iPhone 7 Plus), and faster LTE and Wi-Fi. Unconfirmed possible features include a flush home button, improved water resistance, and a thinner body.

That will switch me back to black iOS devices.

Please please don't make the body any thinner, you can't hold the damn thing! What does the color even matter if you have to cover the whole phone with a case just to hold it? The iPhone 5S body was much better, thin but thick enough to grip easily. Which is probably why Apple didn't have a problem bringing it back with the SE.
