iPhone 5 had a very similar color option. Very scratch prone and every scratch was exponentially more visible then it is on any other color.
I imagine that's why they discontinued the black color until now. But being that they have the watch in black, I'm assuming they've improved their coloring methods.

I'm in. I'm due for a black iPhone as I've alternated black and white/silver since the 3G. Every numbered release I've gone with black and every 'S' model, I've had white. I was planning on disrupting the cycle because I wasn't the biggest fan of the Space Grey used on the iPhone 6, but the possibility of Space Black has me all in. The fact that it may potentially match my Space Black SS Apple Watch is a huge plus too.

It would be stunning to have a phone that black, but even if they could make their new Space Gray the same hue as they do the Apple Watch - this is what they had been promising when they first unveiled promotional images of the iPhone 6!

Oh yeah, dark phone in dark mode. That's what I want. I used to take my black iPhone 5 out of its case and look at it all the time. My Rose Gold iPhone 6S Plus comes out of the case hardly ever. Mind you, if I need a shot of pink I have my MacBook right in front of me. So good.

Following rumors suggesting Apple's iPhone 7 will be available in a much darker Space Gray color that's close to, but not quite black, designer Martin Hajek has created renderings exploring what such a device might look like.

Using the iPhone 7 design rumors pointing towards a larger camera, no headphone jack, and relocated antenna bands, Hajek has created an iPhone 7 rendering in a deep shade of gray that's close to the color of the Space Black Apple Watch.

In Hajek's concept, the iPhone 7 is a much darker shade of gray than the Space Gray iPhone 6s, appearing even darker than the black and slate iPhone 5.

Over the years, Apple has used several different shades of Space Gray, Black, and Slate across the iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch product lines, with some shades that are much darker than others. Apple's most recent products, the iPhone 6s and the iPad Pro, feature a light shade of Space Gray, and a darker Space Gray could differentiate the iPhone 7 from earlier devices.

Rumors of a darker Space Gray or Space Black iPhone 7 first surfaced earlier this week, when Japanese site Mac Otakara clarified that a rumor suggesting a deep blue iPhone 7 was in the works was mistaken. The site, which reported the deep blue color in early June, said its source had misidentified a darker space gray for a shade of blue.

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in September with an iPhone 6s-style design, no headphone jack, an A10 processor, a better camera (larger sensor for the iPhone 7 and dual-lens for the iPhone 7 Plus), and faster LTE and Wi-Fi. Unconfirmed possible features include a flush home button, improved water resistance, and a thinner body.

[doublepost=1467353553][/doublepost]Wow think this is going to be the first year that I'm going to skip my upgrade cycle. Disappointed. :(

I'm glad Apple can tell the difference, because i sure can't....

I'll be happy with my iPhone 6

Looks nice. My only concern would be that it didn't suffer from the anodised chipping very easy, like the slate black/grey did on the iPhone 5.

Why are they moving to this. Can't you remember all the scratches on the old dark colour? The phone looked 5 years old after a month.

There are two kinds of people in this world: people who want radical redesigns and people who want refinement. I fall in the latter camp. Take an existing design and make the best possible version of it. If that's what the iPhone 7 accomplishes, it would be, in my opinion, the best iPhone release ever.
Surely every new model of every phone on the market is gonna be the best ever version of that handset. As if anyone would release an inferior model. Talk about a lame ass expression!! Jeez..

There had better be a 'dark mode' for iOS if this is real...
Well played Sir, well played indeed :)

P.S. For reasons beyond explaination, my favorite Shade of (Space) Gray would be the middle of the two shown in the comparison rendering...You know like raw steel color
