I guess I technically have the problem, but it takes so long for it to occur I don't consider it a problem. Without the bumper I have to use the "death grip" for 35+ seconds to see one bar drop. On multiple occasions it takes more than 2 minutes to go from 4-5 bars to no service. I don't hold my phone like that so it doesn't affect me at all. Have no problems either way browsing the web or doing any type of data.

Mlrollin91, thank you for replying.

It takes my phone a good 35+ seconds to see a bar or two drop for me as well. However, there have been several occasions where I am holding the phone in my left hand while browsing the web, and I notice a website isn't loading, then I hold the phone by the edges and the webpage will start to load. This is with several bars of signal, mind you.

I haven't had any dropped calls, so that hasn't really been an issue. The stifled data has, though.

Have you tried the test I mentioned in the original post? If so and the web site loads normally then I'll go ahead and add your phone & location to the list.

After holding it in the death grip for about 30 seconds, i access safari. My webpages still load fine, just a little bit slower. Macrumors loads fully in 5 seconds without death grip flat on table, 6-7 seconds with the grip. Could also just depend on bandwidth at the particular timing too.

Thumbs up to Rabmag for starting this thread.

I also agree (and have mentioned it in a few other threads) that it is very important test to try and get two people together where one can produce the death grip and the other one can not. This is a great way to see if there are "Magic Phones" out there.

What I find that is interesting is from the posters who had access to another iPhone 4 (co-worker/spouse/friend) and can not replicate the problem on either iPhone. This would make sense if the signal is strong enough in that area that any iPhone 4 is going to react the same.

So far we have seen people that can produce the Death Grip on different iPhone 4s in the same location AND people that don't have the issue on multiple iPhone 4s in the same location.

The only thing we have not see is one iPhone 4 have the issue and another iPhone 4 NOT have the issue in the same location. So far the DATA is pointing that there are not "Magic Phones" out there.

I believe that ALL iPhone 4s have the bridging antenna issue. Some just can not reproduce it because of the strong signal in their area. This may have been one of the reasons Apple did not catch it until it was to late. All their testing may have been with a strong signal in their area and lab.

This data doesn't matter at all. So what if you get even hundreds of people saying they don't have a problem? How does that affect the people who do?

Just relax and let apple figure it out. They have really cool software that tracks support calls and store visits and they can actually count up those things!

Death Grip for 30+ seconds, no change in bars (remained at 2)

Waynema, did you try the test I specified in the original post?

And you're saying that you start out with 2 bars, and your phone remains with 2 bars even after you've "death gripped" it for 30+ seconds?

Because then people who DO have a problem and live in the same city or area as people who DON'T have a problem can meet and conduct these tests in the "affected" and "non-affected" areas.

Thanks guys! Updated the list

Gav2k, would you mind stating what city?

sakumar and richg916, I'm in Napa and can reproduce the problem. I wonder if your phones could reproduce the problem in my town as well???

Grays, Essex. London.

No issues here...

Fort pierce, Fl

Signal inside my home is 1-2 bars, and I have only gotten the phone to drop to "no service" once by using the death grip. However, when the phone is sitting on my desk, it occasionally goes to "no service" on it's own. My house gets terrible cell coverage on every carrier.

I also travelled to Nashville, TN and las Vegas NV a couple weeks back, and only had an issue with coverage in Orlando at MCO airport.

I posted data that matters before on various threads and it has either been ignored, called bunkum or I was just called a liar /fanboy/Jobsian cult follower.

Well, that isn't the purpose of the thread. The purpose is to identify locations and phones that aren't affected by the antenna issue and hopefully be able to meet with someone close by who IS affected by the antenna issue to compare results.

If you care to participate, please post your location & first 5 digits of your serial # :)

WTF? What does no issue mean to you exactly? When you are in an area of low signal you phone exhibits the issue many people are experiencing.

received on July 6th
dropped 1 bar - down to 4.
havent had any dropped calls or lost signals at all.

Details: Put iPhone 4 on a flat table, and refreshed the Google page. Then held for 35 seconds in all 3 places on the phone, including doing the death grip, and refreshed the Google homepage in what seemed the same time. I should also note that the Speedtest.net app was giving better and better results as I was holding my phone in the death grip, over a 3 minute time span. Lowest bars ever dropped was 1 bar. 4-5 bars regularly. Picked phone up on the 29th at an official AT&T store.

p-rice, isn't Henderson near Las Vegas?

I seem to recall a fellow in Las Vegas that was able to literally stand under a cell tower and have signal loss. I think his name was br0adband.

I wonder if it might be too much trouble for you two to test your cell phones in each others' respective areas? The results would answer a lot, I think.

Here is a weird one.

I have to get my serial later but I have NO problems without a case, none. Been using with and without case.

Except when inside a Red Robin in Brighton, MI 48116.

Go outside, no problem. Inside I hold my hand over the antenna and watch the bars drop. Everywhere else the phone is fine. Inside my house at 48178 nothing will make the signal go down.

This is my second phone, the first was a total POS and didn't work for squat.

Interesting...I wonder if they use a microcell?

According to AT&T's website:

http://www.wireless.att.com/support...documents/1252584282478.UserManual_090409.pdf

The Microcell operates at 1900mhz and 850mhz. I wish we could find a coverage map showing the bandwidth that is used.
