This was happening to me and I was about to throw my phone I was so pissed. I never would have known if I didn’t come to macrumors on my wife’s phone and happen to see that this was a known issue. I ALMOST went out and bought the new 8+ since I need a phone and I’m not going to have google data mining the crap out of me. I’m really starting to get fed up with these things happening at Apple. Steve would have blown something up over this.

How does data mining really effect you? Serious question.

I have been concerned for my wife's apple phone and this bug. But since she deosn't have the memory available to update to 11, she stays happily on 10.

A date-related bug in iOS 11.1.2 appears to be causing iPhones and iPads to continually crash or respring when time-based local notifications are received after 12:15 a.m. on December 2, according to reports on Twitter and reddit.

crashloopios11-800x600.jpg

The problem seems to be tied to local notifications received from apps that offer daily or repeat reminders. For example, meditation app Headspace, one of the affected apps, sends daily reminders to users to encourage them to take some time to meditate. Any app using local (as in not pushed from a remote server) notifications that repeat will cause a crash.

On reddit, users have had some success fixing the issue by disabling notifications and turning off background app refresh, while Apple's support staff appears to be recommending a manual date change to a time before the problem occurred as a temporarily solution. Reinstalling apps and restarting does not fix the issue. The problem looks like it's limited to devices running iOS 11.1.2 -- devices on the current iOS 11.2 beta aren't affected.

Apple Stores in Australia, where it is late afternoon on December 2, are reportedly being inundated with support requests from customers who are experiencing the issue.

Apple will undoubtedly fix this problem quickly through an iOS update, but as people wake up on December 2 in the United States and other countries throughout the world, there's likely to be quite a lot of confusion when devices begin inexplicably respringing over and over again.

If you're experiencing continual crashing, the first thing to try is disabling notifications for apps that send regular reminders. It can, however, be difficult to tell which apps are responsible, so a secondary solution is to set the date on your iPhone to before December 2 as you await a fix from Apple.

If you aren't experiencing any crashes, there's no need to turn off notifications or adjust the date on your device.

Update: Apple has released iOS 11.2 to fix this problem, along with an accompanying support document outlining steps to take if you're experiencing crashes. Apple recommends turning off notifications and then installing the update.

Ok. I am filled with sadness to see that the “recommendation” from apple is to disable app notification for each app individually manually. Well I have more than 200 apps, and no I will not do it. The only reason this happened is that Apple is morphing into something that is microsofty, can anything be done. Do we need to peacefully protest.

My son’s Pro 9.7 is doing this respring regularly today on iOS 11.2!
He is trying to find out if is related to notifications.

Anyone else?

Interesting, I went through the 11.2 update list and didn’t find that this issue was addressed.
A quick workaround though is to set the date to manual and anytime before DEC 2nd. Until the issue is resolved.

The issue doesn't exist in iOS 11.2.

it is not true on my iphone 6s with ios 11.2 at the unlock screen when I enter the code the iphone will restart continuously. Did it happen to any of you?

My wife's iPhone 8 JUST started this crashing loop this morning (Dec 6). Fortunately, the 11.2 update is showing as available, so after changing the date back to November (which stopped the continual crashing) I'm installing the update as it sounds like 11.2 fixes the problem.

When a company focuses more on diversity than product quality.
1) Product quality is often a function of having a diverse team. A monolithic team is at a competitive disdvantage specially in the interconnected age we live in.

2) Even if that weren't so having a diverse team doesn't magically lower the quality of any products.
But but but... muh gender-neutral emojis and talking poop!
What about muh facial recognition that is 2 years ahead of every other company making phones on the planet? Are you going to blame that on diversity too or does that not fit your reactionary agenda? The Note 8 still uses a primitive iris scanner it's not even close.

Diverse on ideas, not necessarily races or genders. I have been in engineering program for more than 5 years. The majority of student body are whites and Asians. For grad school, you have fewer native students than international. The number of female engineering student is horrifyingly low when comparing to male students'. There are organizations trying to motivate more female, Africa American and Hispanic students into engineering program, but it's not working. Companies can't suddenly obtain diverse engineering teams, because there aren't enough woman students and minority students (other than Asian) to meet the demand.

I am an international student here in the U.S., coming from a less racially diverse country. Surprisingly, my country has a lot less race related problems. The difference is that we rarely bring up the topic of race. We treat other people simply as another human being, not an individual from certain race or ethnicity group. I believe that's how diversity should be. When applying for school or job, a person should be evaluated as a human first and foremost. Admission standards should be the same across all races and ethnicities.

In the end, races or genders only define physical aspect of a person. Mind is what distinguishes humans from animals. It is very silly for current diversity program to focus on physical differences.
