ITT: everyone tries to justify their purchases by putting down other watch owners. It's just a ****ing smart watch. Let's go to the iPhone forums an make fun of the people who bought 6+'s because there so big.

My daughters sport edition finally came today and glad I made the decision to purchase the stainless steel.

Sorry to the sports edition buyers but in my opinion it looks and feels like a knock off to what the stainless is.
The SS just looks better and feels better. Heavier for sure.
The crown on hers also feels very plastic like.

For runners and such I could see why owning since lighter. I would definitely worry about scratching the sides.

I would also like to add my wrists are not huge and the 42mm is definitely the way to go. Her 38mm is tiny and meant for extremely small wrists.

And what is your wrist size please? #

It's fun reading from people on here who are obviously trying extremely hard to justify spending so much on a SS. I'm happy with my SG Sport. It looks great.

It's hard to take a guy who bought the Milanese strap seriously, I think it's a feminine band in my opinion. Perhaps if I see it in person I'll feel different about it.

If it's something you wear on your body and rely on & look at dozens of times a day for an entire year (or more), then it's not too difficult to justify paying more for a more aesthetically pleasing device. When you're using a product for such an extended period of time, I think it's wise to allocate a little extra money in the short-term to make it the most pleasant and rewarding experience you can make it in the long-term (within your budget of course).

and that's exactly what i did: i bought the matte version. i do not like shiny... it's too chrome looking for my taste... i have every intention to buy gen 2. if i don't like the watch, i won't wear it anyways... so why spend the money on a style (shiny) i don't like just so i can so i bought SS?

----------

Could people please stop using this abbreviation? Can't tell if you mean the black sports band or the blue one. :(

didn't go back to the store... but is SS with blue sport band even an option without buying the band separately? i'm pretty sure black and white are the only options for buying the stock watch? so BSB means BLACK in all cases.

The 38mm in my opinion is the size I would want(even from your photos)
When I looked at all the mechanical watches I wore daily, they resembled the 38mm size. I have a few oversized watches and I don't wear them because they are too big, so for that reason I ordered the 38.

When I tried on the sport vs the stainless I liked the weight of the stainless, and it felt more substantial. That and you can get better bands that won't corrode the aluminum.

Really the sports is for those that don't want to break the bank and have the exact same features as the others. If apple releases AWs or AW2 in less than 2 years with even more battery life and better features then they will be the ones laughing.

I had the money for the SS but decided I didnt want to spend it on a gen 1 device. Plan is to go with SS when I buy my next one

80%... really???? what is this based on? No apple product has that kind of renewal rate. There's no way you could know this without knowing features of the new watch and buying habits of AW owners (how often they renew other apple electronics).

I, for one, am happy I paid the extra £250 for the SS even if its just for a year. It works out to roughly 70p per day over a year to have something I, personally, much prefer the look of.

But in reality all of the conversations are dumb... each to their own, its a personal choice and I'm sure many people actually prefer the sport look to the SS look.

Whoa its a 250 quid difference between the aluminum and SS? That's a travesty seeing that it's only a 250 CAD difference and 1 GBP = 1.85ish CAD.

Just checked the store, and you're right. It's still confusing, though, because when talking about Sports watches, BSB often means blue sports band. And then there are people posting about SG BSB -- SpaceGrey watch comes only with black sports band, talk about redundant! Sorry but that BSB has been bugging me a lot, as whenever I see it, I have to mentally double back and figure out which watch is being talked about before I can figure out whether we are talking about the blue or black band.

My mistake! I wasn't comparing like for like bands, it's actually only £180! (Still that would be 333CAD. We always get stung in the UK)

Are you the only one here still flogging this "42 is for men" line? Grow up!

I'm 6ft, 45 inch chest, size 12 feet and built like an athlete (I'm a male model) and have 195mm wrists, but I wear a 38mm purely as it looks much better - based on my personal taste.

It boils down to whether you want a bigger looking 'smart watch' look, or a smaller 'watch' look.

Some people just have no taste - or would let popular opinion choose for them rather than make their own choices. We all can be in the mood for a fitted, tailored shirt just as much as wanting to wear a baggy casual 'day off' shirt...but personally I like my watches to fit correctly and discretely. Male/female vs watch size should really die right now. Do you also think pink clothing eg. a t-shirt or Liking cut flowers, espressos and shedding a tear at a film is only something women can wear/have/do? Or perhaps you just like to stir up arguments with your bold claims. Open your mind a little.

I have a nice coral T from Onassis :) After trying the 38mm on I just seemed very small so I could imagine many men getting it. The 42mm doesn't look smart watchy since its smaller then my g-shock and citizen nighthawk.

But I guess some people like the smaller look and that's fine.

Best thing I've read on this forum in a long time.

Goodness, I felt the opposite when my sister-in-law unboxed the 38 mm pink sport we bought her for her birthday yesterday: "Damn, that's a really good looking watch. Maybe I overspent getting Stainless Steel on a first generation watch. I could have had a really nice watch for $350."

Really it was lightweight and felt better on my wrist than my SS, and it was really attractive in person. It does have a more "Swatch" type of vibe to it, but I equate that with fun and sportiness, not cheapness. Sis was thrilled with her Sport and didn't even look twice at my SS watch with black sport band. I was the one who kept staring at her watch.

So, how do you like the Milanese Loop? Do you have to adjust it a lot?

It's unisex. Actually, it started out over 100 years ago as a men's band.

I'm still deciding which to buy,

I work on track in the rail industry and what with all the dirt and grime I'm exposed too I'm not sure which to get and even if it's worth wearing it for work.

Your thoughts are most welcome on this

If you are looking for an "office watch," get the stainless steel with the Classic Band. It looks most like a "normal" watch (i.e. it is fairly inconspicuous).

I do not agree... I purchased the SG Sport 42mm and it is NOT a toy. I love it and would REGRET spending the amount on a SS 1st Gen.
Now I will be upgrading next release and will most likely get a higher end watch 2nd time around.. I just can't see spending that much on a 1st gen knowing it is the "test" watch for apple.
Also, I love the Space Grey and did not want to spend over 1k for a SS Black watch :) very happy with my choice and I love the Matte Black finish (grey..) and the weight of the sport is amazing for daily and active use.

To the whole 38mm is too small thing, I agree it would be too small for me, but my wife has small wrists and her 38mm is perfect for her.

In a perfect world, I'd have all the components of the SS watch except for the stainless steel, and it would be space grey aluminum.

But I'm perfectly happy with the space gray sport. I already have a nice SS watch.

I'm with you on this. Every picture I've seen of the 42" on someone's wrist looks like a huge oversized geeky tech watch. It might as well have a virtual calculator keypad on it ...

dbc-32-1adf-d.jpg

All of the traditional rectangular watches I've ever seen have always been smaller than a round faced watch, probably so that they fit in the same space as a round watch. Oversized round watches are in fashion right now, but I've yet to see an over-sized rectangular watch. Your 38mm looks way better as a watch replacement, and seems much less geeky/tech.

If Apple is setting the new standard with the 42mm Watch, I don't think I'm interested in that fashion trend.

"That's just like, your opinion, man".

Honestly though, I prefer the look of the aluminum. The silver one too (gasp!). Yes, I would much prefer a sapphire screen, but I'll take the glass screen if I can get the anodized aluminum. Perhaps in the future when Apple gets all of their manufacturing issues sorted out they'll offer more of a "built-to-order" approach.
