Folks at Head-Fi seem to think they are pretty good. I'm on the fence...

They are ok. There are things I like and don't like about them. The sound is decent. Noise cancelation is ok. Battery life hasn't been a problem. I like how seamlessly they pair with my Apple/iOS devices. I'm a night owl that watches a lot of AppleTV when everyone is sleeping and my AirPod Pros were starting to bother my ears. These were a nice change. I don't like that the optional analog cable has a limited DAC and doesn't allow you to listen to true lossless audio.

I think I'll pick up a pair at Best Buy and get some first hand impressions. Thanks!

Take another 100 off and we can start talking

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner!!! $399 would be the price point at which I’d take a good, long look at them and more than likely buy a pair.

I’m still trying to figure out the point of them at the original price point and even at $549. If you want over ear headphones go with the beats line.

I agree with a previous poster. To me it’s a status symbol made to showcase spatial audio. Apple missed the mark on that one. Not the status symbol part but the Spatial Audio part. If AirPods Max supported lossless high res audio in addition to spatial audio then I’d consider them at $499 and probably buy a pair. No lossless, no deal at that price point.

Anyone use this on airplanes? I use my QC35s when I fly and it's good enough for the engine noise rumble. AirPods Pros are ok but don't last very long and also aren't as good as the QC35s

I think that is a good deal. Though after getting burned by Andorama on an external hard drive “sale price“ they wouldn‘t honor, I would never buy from them again. Just look them up, many, many complaints!

Just price match it somewhere else in that case

Never bought from Adorama before, back in the day they used to sell gray market cameras without US warranty, turned me off. Have they improved?

I would like a second pair of Max's. I am getting tired of carrying my gray ones back and forth from the office to the home. Hands down the easiest headphones I have used, and one of the better sounding as well. The noise cancellation is the best. I enjoy just picking them up and taking a call, phone or zoom, and then putting them back down when done. And they work great with my Apple TV for that late night viewing.
We’ve bought quite a few spendy items from Adorama, and they’ve all been new US market equipment with fantastic quality. It would appear they have changed the way they operate. Nothing we’ve got has been gray market. We easily register our purchases with the US distributors with no issues. I’d say it’s worth a shot. It’s a great price on the best wireless headphones I’ve ever owned (I consider myself to be an audiophile).

even if the price was lower by another $100, people don't want to carry around that big piece of thing. imo, their best bet is to buy the company Moondrop and implement the hardware from their IEMs like the Moondrop Aria for airpods, and Moondrop Blessing2 for airpods pros. they'll have top quality sound this way while keeping it small and portable

This is a good price. I know there are lots of people that dis them for some reason, but I got a pair a couple months ago for full retail price from the Apple Store and flat out love them. I use them all the time watching my Apple TV at night to avoid waking up the family as well as on my iPhone, iPad and MacBook Air and, surprisingly, my Windows desktop PC. They work really well when I play games on Windows and there is (at least to me) no noticeable Bluetooth lag with sound effects or the like. The noise canceling works phenomenally as well. With these on, I cannot even hear the fans in my gaming PC spin up. Also, I wear them for literally hours at time some nights and other than the earpads getting a little sweaty when gaming in my hot office sometimes, they are very comfortable. So nice, in general. I can't recommend them enough to people. Also, they sound really nice when just listening to music as well.

I’m hoping for a version 2 with a fully analog input when wired, like most other high quality headphones have. That way the only limiting the bitrate is the DAC I use. This also makes headphones future proof, because even if the battery dies or they stop turning on, the analog input will continue to work.

Amazon had them for this price for about half a day yesterday and before I took advantage of price matching Best Buy, they were up to $479 again....Best Buy's present sale price.

Bluetooth and even Air Play 2 will not support Apple's own ALAC format of 24 bit at 192 KHz resolution. To even be considered viable for the price, the AirPods Max must be able to support ALAC via the lighting connector or wirelessly by some version of Air Play.
