Yes. It‘s more about getting used to the weight. And anyone going from plastic headphones or earbuds to these are going to notice a difference. I did. Then I stopped noticing it. There will always be people that don’t like how a pair of headphones feels - even those with strong reputations for comfort. But I can wear these for hours. The unique headband distributes weight so that there isn’t scalp sensitivity - ever - for me. And these exhibit world class build quality - including weight distribution so that they feel incredibly light despite their overall weight.

Anywhere south of $400 and maybe these have a chance of going more mainstream

Ridiculously priced by Apple, just like the HomePod originally was.
They’re really not. And for those thinking they’ll go for 300, highly doubtful. Retailers are always putting stuff on sale. I mean it wasn’t even 2 months after launch M1 macs were being discounted. It happens.

I like them but they are still too expensive for what they are. If they hit $400 I might bite. But my Airpods are a lot more practical for running, working out etc.

The lack of a power button still irks me.

Dang. I would have accepted a $50 discount to get blue instead of the space gray I just ordered. Oh well, at least I'll have a few more weeks of noise cancelling relief this summer out of them.

But the space gray do look killer ;)

I can't use these for production. I can't walk down a city street without fear of these getting snatched. I wouldn't wear these in a conference call. And I can't work out with these. Therefore, I consider them purely travel headphones. Once they are in range of travel headphone prices, which max out at about $350 , then I will consider.
Where do you live that people are snatching headphones off your dome?

500 bucks?!? Where's the deal when I can buy a pair of headphones off Amazon for 30 bucks.
Look at it this way, buy these and for only $10 more over MSRP you can get TWO extra pairs of headphones! Now THAT’s a bargain. 😉

Alright. I ordered a pair. I was waiting for $400 but now that Apple has added Atmos + Spatial audio with some less lossy codecs to their offering and I'm traveling more and I'm going back to an office soon and my AirPods Pro are going on 2 years old..fine I ordered them.

My AirPods Pro will need battery service soon anyway and I don't use them for traveling..well I shouldn't make this a blog post but basically I have a collection of headphones and it's fine but the wireless chip in these is very good so I'll grab them and use them on my flight to and from Montana next week and if they're not worth $499, I'll return them.
Have your AirPods Pro survived two years with still being able to pass the Fit Test? (put them in your ears, Settings, Bluetooth, tap the "i" next to them in the list, Ear Tip Fit Test)

I love the sound of my AirPods Pro (Max arrives soon for me) but the design of them has been very unreliable for my use, with noise cancelling. I've actually had to replace both the left and right twice. Curious to know if anyone has been able to use the APP long term with no issues.

Actually they’re Apple headphones made in Vietnam.
My tracking stuff says origin scan, shipper created a label in Dongguan, China (still could be not China of course, but it looks like made in China)

Apple's Chinese Suppliers Are Making AirPods Max in Vietnam

is a MacRumors thread. My intent really was to call out the casual xenophobia exhibited by that commenter. Not that they likely noticed either their racism or the point of my post.

“$499 for wireless headphones that can’t do lossless audio? LOL. There truly is a sucker born every minute”

Agreed. A good number of them believe they can successfully A/B Apple’s 256 bit rate and lossless audio on wired headphones.

they do still pass the fit test but my problem with them, even with perfect fit is when I eat while wearing them, they fall out. Original AirPods didn't do that.

Full disclosure:
My desk/office phones are Shure SRH840
My airline phones are Shure SE530s attached to their Bluetooth adapter
AirPods are for when my phone rings and I don't exercise so they don't get used but I hate holding phones, always have so if my phone rings, I throw in one of the ears and use that to talk. I get about 30 calls a day and my BIGGEST annoyance is after Big Sur, the damn 'smart connectivity' thing sucks. My iMac/iPad Pro/MacBook steal AirPods from me without warning even when I'm on a call. I've turned off auto connect on every device but phone but it still happens.

The Max would be replacing the SRH840 & SE530s doubling as "well it's already on my head so I'll just take a call with these" versus today where I have to take off my big wired cans and put in AirPods when my phone rings at the office.

I thought the same. Until I tried them. But people going to hate. That’s fine.
Just came to here to see exactly that. After many similar articles, I still can’t pin point what’s the right price for these… it ranges from $150 to $450. When it’s at $550: “$500 and we start talking” comments appears. When it’s $500, then “$450 and we start talking” ones.
I think it’s safe to say these headphones seem to be I liked by most and that it’s totally fine.
The one funny comment though was about not being able to use them for exercises, for conferences, for walking outside, basically never… seemed like a seriously broken pair of headphones experience and was going to suggest that maybe it’s best to just return them, but there was nothing to return.

I’ve tried many over ear headphones but they were never comfortable for longer than 10-20 minutes for me for some reason. Yesterday I tried AirPods Max for the first time in a store. Awesome to finally see them IRL. Sadly with the weight I just wanted to put them down after 10 minutes of listening. Putting back my “weightless” AirPods Pro after was a blessing.

Also I did expect to be blown away by sound quality, but to my ears I couldn’t hear anything I didn’t already have with AirPods Pro. Noise cancelling felt the same as well. I liked the volume dial although I got the direction wrong every time. A bit of a letdown in this particular demo, although it was only 10 minutes.
For me is actually the opposite, after jogging and/or general exercising I just want to go back to the APM. The ANC does filter out washing machine, someone cleaning the dishes, cars outside passing by, etc for me. Everything becomes a whole lot more peaceful.
In my experience it has the convenience of the AirPods Pro (easy setup, connectivity, device switching, etc) but then the sound quality and the nature of their size is bar none.
That being said, 10mins I think could have been enough, so it might be an accurate verdict for you. It took me 5mins to realize that I wasn’t returning them and getting a refund back, felt the cash had already parted ways then.

Still paid less with vet discount. But sold a couple to pay for mine at launch. With spatial and especially coming to Apple TV I’m ok with them. It’s not surprising to see the discounts now. Expect a 100 off at least during holidays.

I love mine. Super comfy, great sound and top class noise reduction. Use them every day and they are still in mint condition. The bra they come with is ridiculous but a 20 quid hard shell case from Amazon keeps them protected when not on my noggin.
