Note that Costco has this Macbook Pro for the same price (I just bought one) plus they extend the warranty by one year. If you use Costco credit, it extends to 4 years. This is a Costco warranty, not Applecare+, but free is free. Price applies both online and in store.

I believe Amazon has the best current price on I9 1TB models.

That doesn't rule one out:

- 45min ARM-Mac (12"/13"/whatever, maybe a Mini and/or 24" iMac)
- 14:50min AirTags;)
- 0:10 Specbump for 16"
So, “One Last Thing”, is going to replaced....So, “By The Way” regarding an new iteration of an Intel 16” Macbook :(

I think this is a banging deal for the only last desktop replacement Apple makes will ever make.

Solid machine, great screen, good keyboard, EGPU and Windows-capable.

Three/four years ago, I would have bought this without hesitation.
Are you thinking that none of the ARM MacBooks won’t be a “desktop replacement”? I‘m guessing you mean power/performance wise. That would be sad for those that need it.

I think they will update the 16" to a "one last power user intel Mac" and that will be the last intel laptop. The Bootcamp code referring to a new 16" laptop points to that. I imagine it will be a powerful machine too. Too many professionals use programs that haven't been converted to ASilicon and they also use windows emulators. I'm sure it will be low end machines first and the high end transition will take time.

"starting at $2,099.99 for the 512GB model in silver, down from $2,399.00. This sale price will appear at the checkout screen after a $149.01 discount is automatically applied" - isn't $2399,00 - $149.01 = $2249.99?

Correct. I think that they will be capable machines, but will lack the flexibility that a desktop replacement requires.

To be honest, I think that died with the 2012 MBPs (non-Retina), but I believe these AS machines will give up EGPU support along with Windows on top of everything else we gave up back then (upgradeability-wise), so there's that.

However, I think if you're fully and exclusively in the Apple ecosystem (Final Cut, Logic, etc) you should be just fine.

I have no evidence to support my assertions, but I think you're wrong about this. I mean sure, if by 'desktop replacement' you mean something that can run Windows or which has upgradeable internals then ok.

The problem with Intel has been that Apple hasn't been able engineer around the thermal issues to get to something truly desktop class in terms of raw power. The iPad Pro's currently outbench most 'desktop class' portables but are held back by the OS. Get those CPUs into a laptop form factor with proper cooling, SOC GPUs, and then sprinkle on MacOS, I doubt that even most WIntel desktops will be able to keep up.

Just an opinion, but in a couple of years time I fully expect that we will be using Macs that we can only dream of today.

I am cautiously optimistic about Apple Silicon. We just have no (real) idea what the performance is going to be like.

However, external expansion is the killer here. Apple aims to turn every laptop into an ultrabook, or at least it did for a while.

The 16" is the lone holdout, so as long as we don't lose any of its capability (besides running Windows, that is definitely going away) we should be in good shape.

So we'll have to see, and I hope you're right.

Look for some deep price dives on these (by apple standards anyway) before the silicon models roll out. Might be the smart move to buy now as buying a first generation Silicon machine is a very foolish move unless you are made of money.

I picked the standard config map 2019 16' a month ago from a friend. He only had 2 battery cycle time on it, so it was practically new. $1400 USD. I am happy with it considering I am coming from a 2010 iMac 27' that died due to the graphics card. Plus its not like I can afford the new map arm refresh at new price. 1400$ I consider a steal and am happy with it. I tend to use my devices until they die on me.

Amazon today has a few deals on both models of Apple's 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2019, starting at $2,099.99 for the 512GB model in silver, down from $2,399.00. This sale price will appear at the checkout screen after a $149.01 discount is automatically applied, and it's a match of the previous sale price we've seen consistently throughout 2020.

You can also get the higher-end model with 1TB for $2,499.00, down from $2,799.00. We have seen this model at a slightly cheaper price earlier this year, but the $2,499.00 price point is the most consistent sale that we've tracked over the past few months.

Always sad to see Canadians don’t get deals like this. :(

I’d wait for the Apple Silicon Macbooks, but not sure how well they’d play with Serato DJ software. Seems that, and music production users would be better off waiting to see what kind of emulated performance they’ll get.

Are you sure you did not actually steal it? I mean, for almost half the retail price, you should be obviously happy with the deal.

haha I bugged him for a few weeks to lower the price and he finally got sick of me I think. I look after his dog on some occasions and helped him move before, so I think he felt obliged. Hey, I negotiate any way I can. I had him agree at 1200 at some point, but he reneged to 1400, but I still went for it as I figured it was a good deal. He originally wanted 1800 which I think the fair price, but my goal always is to try and 1/2 price of any used device in good shape.
