I just can’t believe they’re still selling a “Pro” machine with only 256GB of storage for the base. Seems a bit insulting at that price. You can get a fast 256GB Crucial M.2 for $40, while 512GB is only $10 more. Apple needs to stop being so cheap, it looks bad for the brand.

I really don't get this MacBook Pro thing. Even after discount, $225 more than a regularly priced MacBook Air for.... wait for it... a fan... and +100 nits brightness. That's it. Oh ya sorry, an 8th enabled GPU core. Amazing!

The MBP is not the only example, I'm sure you remember the 64 GB iPhones and iMacs with spinning HD until fairly recently.

You can pay a bit more and spec an 8th GPU core on an MBA (I did precisely that since I got a good Black Friday discount on the machine). Agree that the 13" Pro is not worth the extra money for me. You forgot to say "thicker and heavier"! I think they released it just to avoid complete decimation of the MBP line (either that or somebody genuinely thinks the Touch Bar is a desirable feature).

Heads up, active/veterans. When these go Apple Refurbished you can stack that discount on top of your Military discount for up to 25% off. Don’t forget you can buy all your cases and accessories via Apple Store for 10% off as well.

Damnit! I just bought one (the mba 8gb) for my kid and it is so much faster than my 64 gb Mac Pro.

It’s been a little over a month but my 16GB, 512GB, M1 MBA finally arrives tomorrow. The trade-in box for my 2014 MacMini arrived today. YAY!

I saw VLC released an M1 native version today too!

Wait a few more months. These models can’t be trusted. Clearly they will be cheaper soon.
We know you are trolling, but really, these are quite safe to get. Very old, established design. Not exciting but no surprises. Massive battery benefits as a result. New chips... most everything should be software problems And those are minimal and shrinking by the day. Apple will eventually stand behind any significant issues beyond that.

it will be “safer“ than a 1st Gen, redesigned, 14” mbp.

Why is everyone knocking the pro? The extra battery life alone is worth it over the air to me.
It's just diminishing returns. For a lot of people. The MBA already has more battery life than they'd make use of in a day. Toms hardware tests show 14:41 on a charge. Heck for many that's two work days after you factor in breaks.

The MBP shows 16:32 on the same battery of tests.

They never should have bothered with a 2 port "Pro" M1..

It isn't differentiated enough from the Air.

The main differences are the TouchBar and a fan -- both of which many users prefer not to have.
Touch Bar, fan, one extra GPU core, 100 nits brighter screen, 1/2" wider touchpad and a bigger battery. But I understand why many aren't interested.

In 2021, 8GB RAM laptop exist with no RAM expansion slots. Even if M1 is impressive, it's DOA.

It may sound like a ridiculously low amount of ram from a power-user’s / enthusiast’s perspective, but most of “common” users, like students and businessmen, who the low-cost M1s are marketed for, find 8gb to be more than enough for their needs. My brother is in uni and him and most of his peers run MacBooks from 2013/2014 with 4gb of ram. 8gb for that demographic is a future-proof amount.
