I'm sure they made the calculus and the figures proved selling it with 8/256 was much more profitable . people who want apple will buy apple anywayI’m not a multi-billion dollar multi-national corporation, and I’m sure Apple’s accountants have the numbers, but I keep thinking that if Apple offered a 15 inch MBA with 16/512 that would be a really, really big seller and would make many customers happy. I think more people would be willing to buy it as a secondary device at that price to supplement a desktop or even as a second travel laptop. Not everyone needs/wants a MBP but might need more memory and storage.
I totally hear you . he's a terrrific business handler , but not suitable for the company apple used to be !Don't get me wrong, Tim Apple was probably the best Ops guy in the history of big business. I just don't agree with him being the CEO of Apple when he cares not about design, products, etc.
Jobs charged $100 extra to go from 16 GB to 32 GB on iPhones. Please post when you buy something else from Apple in the next 12 months.I no longer buy Apple products, and I will continue this practice until someone more Jobs like is at the helm. If it never happens, so be it. I'm getting along fine without Apple, although I still love my 27" 5K iMac. I still love Apple as a company, I just haven't been happy with many of the decisions they've made over the past few years.
True that! And apple could’ve brought it out at 1499 and you still have to pay those upgrade prices🤪 I will still wait for the refurbishedNot everyone needs 16GB of RAM. The Apple nerds on MR who believe everyone has the same needs and should have non-standard configs are the minority.
Which iPhones? You mean way back when that was actually a decent amount of storage? If not, then your post is nonsensical. Also, I haven't bought anything from Apple in over two years now. But I can post when I do buy another Apple product, if that will make you feel better.Jobs charged $100 extra to go from 16 GB to 32 GB on iPhones. So you used your 2012 MBA until 2024? That is impressive! 😁I got twelve years out of my 2012 MBA with 4GB of ram and that thing was perfectly pleasant to use until the day I sold it. Fully updated. Even did light iMovie for YouTube a few times a month with it.... no complaints.
A BTO 15" MBA (upgraded memory to 16GB) is showing a ship date of Jun 15 - Jun 19 when launch day is Jun 13. So it's only an extra week at most. That's not bad at all.sadly BTO takes so long to ship...
What would the performance on this look like compared to a 2020 M1 13” MBP? I’m a daily driver but do play some Civ V. For me it’s mostly a media consumption machine

Eh, I think it‘s getting more and more difficult to justify when MacOS alone takes up a minimum of 4GB. Open Safari and a couple of big web sites and you’ll start hitting your swap memory. With Apple making a bigger move towards gaming the 8/256 configuration is a serious limitation. Not everyone needs 16GB of RAM. damn, for me it took an extra month in franceA BTO 15" MBA (upgraded memory to 16GB) is showing a ship date of Jun 15 - Jun 19 when launch day is Jun 13. So it's only an extra week at most. That's not bad at all.
I wouldn’t upgrade from an M1 to M2 if performance is what you’re looking for, especially because the M1 MBP has a fan and the MBA doesn’t. You can probably push the M1 MBP harder and longer than the M2 MBA with hardly any noticeable difference. What would the performance on this look like compared to a 2020 M1 13” MBP? okay same here !A BTO 15" MBA (upgraded memory to 16GB) is showing a ship date of Jun 15 - Jun 19 when launch day is Jun 13. So it's only an extra week at most. That's not bad at all.
And that price only includes "8GB Unified Memory" instead of 16Gb, which should be standard by now in 2023.$200 for 512GB has always been ridiculous but it's really starting to reach the point of parody.
Gaming and AR/VR. Even the Vision Pro reportedly comes with 16GB standard.Eh, I think it‘s getting more and more difficult to justify when MacOS alone takes up a minimum of 4GB. not very different, in fact for games or any heavy stuff your mbp will greatly outperform it given m1 is cooler AND your mbp has a fan !What would the performance on this look like compared to a 2020 M1 13” MBP? I’m a daily driver but do play some Civ V. For me it’s mostly a media consumption machine
8GB is enough for a lot of people. I go with 16 but my mother and sister are both using 8GB Airs with no problems. I know for a fact they aren't a minority since that base model is one of Apple's top sellers (or THE top seller). The fact that Apple still sells laptops with only 8GB of RAM tells you everything you need to know about Tim Apple.
Thanks that’s what I was wonderingnot very different, in fact for games or any heavy stuff your mbp will greatly outperform it given m1 is cooler AND your mbp has a fan !
but in all fairness even if it were better (which it isnt really lol), for you it wouldnt truly be worth it

I’ll say this, I’m a daily driver not a media creator but 8gb vs 16gb is no noticeable performance differenceAnd that price only includes "8GB Unified Memory" instead of 16Gb, which should be standard by now in 2023.
If you want 16GB, that requires a custom-built order through Apple.

Yet he was still a design/product guy who cared about customer experience.Saint Jobs used to saddle machines with 4200RPM hard drives up to 2006. And nearly every G4/G5 Mac was handicapped out of the gate with insufficient L2 cache and no L3.
