I downloaded this to my M2 MacBook Pro (16GB RAM) and when I launch, it just sits there. Waited for 5 minutes and gave up. What am I missing here?

Is that really true? When I look up some benchmarks on CPU monkey for example I see M3 Max beating the PS5 in every aspect, not all benchmarks are available on both platforms so only compare the ones with data available.
I believe there is a LOT more to just the GPU when it comes to the PS5. Sony knocked it out of the park with that thing. I remember when a family member started lauding it before it had even been released, (based on press release), and me telling him that I'd heard it all before.
Once he got one. I had to eat my words. The great 4K gameplay, truly lightning fast load times, huge game catalogue. It's far and away a abetter value way to play games than any Mac. In fact idf you wanted to add £500 to upgrade the Mac you were going to buy to get better game performance, you'd probably still be better leaving the Mac as it is and buying a PS5 to go along with it.

But now he has to spend 5 years with Windows. That's a prison sentence.
It really isn't. When it comes to game there is SO MUCH more you can do to tune your gaming experience. Quite frankly there are also a fair few positives about the M$ OS, (as well as some really annoying thinghs). So yes, same as any OS.

I'd rather Nier Automata... or an offline version of NieR Reincarnation (which is shutting down in three months 😔) ... both of them are better than this overhyped walking sim. I mean I appreciate Kojima and his vision... but in the last few years Yoko Taro has just been doing his thing and 10x better, yet not getting the same recognition..

I'm joking and I'm not really talking about games. Of course Windows is superior to Mac in every way for gaming but I play consoles for games and use computers for content creation and work. Anytime I've been forced to use Windows, I cannot stop laughing at all the poor design choices, poor performance and crashing but it's rare that I'm forced to use a PC.

Meanwhile, I pre-ordered Death Stranding for my M2 MacBook Pro which is the first game I bought for any Mac in 25 years and it failed to load. Back to the consoles.

Then he would get to play the games today that Macs will get in 5 years.

I'm just thinking about Windows without games. I play console games so gaming on Macs or PCs both seem like strange choices to me.

For some reason it doesn’t work on my MacBook Pro MAX on M2 chip with 96GB RAM, when I click “open” or from spotlight I only get an kicon on my dock panel and nothing else, apart from Game Center notification. Anyone else having this?

Does it have to be ran on M3? It doesn’t seem to work on my M2 with 96 ram for some reasons, it simply doesn’t want to launch, which is sad because I pre-ordered last year and even had a reminder twice because of the release date change :(
Playing on my MacBook M2 Max with 32 GB of ram right now. Runs fine offline.

I had to turn Game Center on in System Settings, had the same thing happen to me

49.4GB download for iPhone.. I can finally use my backbone usb-C
Does it download extra stuff after a first download? Mine says this on my phone: IMG_3561.jpeg
However on the Mac is definitely 50+GB (70GB if I remember right). Haven’t installed it anywhere just yet.

Downloading on MacOS (Sonoma) is atrociously SLOW. On iPad it's quick. On a 2Gb fiber line here apple needs to fix App Store download speeds it's always been slow

iOS initial app is only 1.79GB. Once in-game, a mandatory asset download of 12GB will start before the actual game can launch, afterwards another 40GB of the rest of the game can be downloaded as you play. The total reported installation size is 53GB.

Started the download 20 hours ago. Came back to see this, lol.
update: finally finished downloading. Now the installation is taking forever. I think Xcode and this both take the same amount of time: insane!

I deleted the .downloaded in the apps folder and started again after about an hour and voila, it's downloading much faster now! ~35MB/s, I'm at around 4GB since I started the download minutes ago

Alright! Thanks for the breakdown… I will definitely be skipping the phone then, would take half my SSD size with only that 😓

This is great! What a cool thing to have this game released on multiple Apple platforms at the same time. Even if the performance isn't ideal on mobile devices, it's still awesome to be able to buy the game once for several platforms. If this release scheme pays off for developers, the ability to easily do simultaneous releases on multiple Apple platforms could greatly extend the number of AAA games coming to Mac.

Similar here, except I didn't even touch my MBP, the download stream just randomly decided to start picking up speed about an hour ago. But the speed seems to still be capped at 25MB/s. I have heard this sort of behaviour is due to Apple's edge server / CDN taking time to populate cache around the world in all the ISPs? Regardless, Apple needs to sort this out if they intend to be a serious gaming platform, as pretty much all modern games are as large as this.

According to the App Store, on both Mac and iPad it requires an M1 or higher. So it should run on your Mac.

Great game. Obviously it won’t run that great, because even the GPU of a maxed out M3 Max is far from being as fast as a PS5-GPU (and you can get a PS5 with 825 GB of SSD for less than apple charges for 1 TB of a slighly faster SSD alone). Still, it’s the game that counts, not the graphics. If it runs smoothly on a Macbook Air, it’s a win for Mac gaming.
actually m3 max is superior…
