This makes no sense to me. I choose jet black because I like it the most, period.

I put it in a case to protect it from breaking in case I drop it.

I don't care much about minor scratches, certainly wouldn't buy a colour that I don't like just because it doesn't scratch as much.
You have a real problem of focusing on just part of a post and leaving out the part that answers your comments. I already said there's nothing wrong with getting jet black and to get whatever you like.

It makes perfect sense, though. I don't care if you like jet black better, or matte or silver or gold or pink. But logically speaking, if your phone stays in a case anyway, it makes more sense to get the color that won't scratch as easily for better resale value in a year or two. If you can't see the logic in that, then I don't know what else to tell you but to enjoy your jet black iPhone in a case that looks exactly the same as a matte black iPhone in a case.

Go with what you think looks better but I reckon if you like to sell your devices each year matte black I think is the smarter option.

I hear you but fully disagree. There will not be a different in resale value. Because there will be lots of people that prefer the jet black in the used market too. They will adjust their expectation on what a "like-new condition" look like, and still pay top $ for it.

I like my JB phone. Yes, it's already scratched but I don't really care.

So I purchased a 256gb JB Plus 10 days ago.. tonight I just exchanged it for a 128gb MB Plus and couldn't be happier. The JB was nice but I had put a case on it and it beat up the top and bottom antenna bands. Plus it had accumulated a couple hair line scratches on the back which you could barely see. With me being so OCD I couldn't handle it anymore. The MB feels less delicate and but more solid. Have a new case on order to keep this one safe and clean!

I've had the jet black iphone 7 plus for a week now without a case and some threads on here had me paranoid about using it naked but its not bad at all. no scratches yet!

Agreed. I would get what makes you happier during your time with the phone and not worry about resale value.

I think the JB with a saddle-tan leather case looks very classy, but I went with the boring matte finish myself. I was close to getting JB but decided against it at the last minute. I like my Apple products to stay like new for as long as possible as I find it lessens the upgrade-urge when they still look brand new! I don't think they had JB 256 GB 7 in stock when I went to buy one anyway.

I don't think it's OCD unless you're like checking and polishing your phone five times a day. I feel like the JB finish might've pushed me towards that kind of obsessive behaviour, whereas with the matte I don't give it's condition a second thought. I assume it stays fine in its case unless I drop it and even then I'm not that bothered.
