Apple needs to drop the price if they want to keep sales up. 650 USD for a 16GB base model is ridiculous.
This also won't help since they'd need to sell even more phones.
Constant growth is not possible. That's just capitalist propaganda.
Btw in an organism permanent growth is called cancer.

How many was that, 2 or 3?
Hey a funny little racist here!

Someone will probably flame you for this comment, but I agree.

I could go on about how much love IOS needs (puke colors was not it) but I think Apple isn't going to be able to continue the trend of charging double for less for much longer.

The iPhone's price is really becoming a sticking point now that there is no such thing as "$199" upgrade. When you are paying full price for your device, you feel that price point.

You also not only feel the price point when upgrading, but it makes people start to compare other devices where before they may not have even considered doing so. "Hmm. This android device does more.... has more under the hood.... is cheaper.... has great reviews.... and my payment each month is a lot less.... oh, and it comes with TWICE the storage and 2-3 time more RAM? Has SD card slot? I can change the battery?"

This isn't trolling, it's reality. I have seen quite a few people walk in for a new iPhone and walk out with a Samsung, LG, or other device.

I have the LGV10, paid $649 for a superior camera, better audio, 32GB (plus free 256GB SD card and spare battery with charging cradle), 4 GB ram, 5.7 inch display (and smaller the the plus).

The most comparable iPhone model is $849. I'm a few hundred shy of a macbook pro. The demise of carrier subsidy is something people are beginning to feel, as many people are only just falling out of their final contracts and experiencing the buy your device outright for the first time.

I've used iPhones and Androids.... and really do like Android better and it's ease of use is matched to IOS these days (back in the day Android had a bit of a learning curve due to all the OEM customizations but not anymore). The price and specs are deal breakers for me and lots of people.

They need to drop the price or up the ante with more base storage and memory.

Oh, and get rid of the damn forhead and chin on the iPhone. The iPhone shouldn't be as big as it is. Forget thinner. It doesn't need to be thinner. It needs an inch or 2 lopped off in height!
Spot on. I've been a loyal iPhone user from the first but with the prospect of a less than innovative 7 and 2017 being the tenth anniversary thus hoping Tim grows some balls and takes a risk for a change with something new and exciting for once rather than play to the banks I sold my I phone 6 before its while something and bought a Galaxy S5 for all the reasons you outlined. Problem is I rather like it as it's just as fast as the 6 and pretty much its equal, so much so I may never return unless.... come on Tim, surprise us.

So bad coding was fixed by adding more ram. How is it any good exactly? Phone specs and software are now like parents and children. You want to give children just enough money to do something, but not enough to do nothing.
What are you on, I wouldn't mind some of that.

My 2 cents. Apple is taking too long to come up with innovative products. Dual cameras, oled screens, wireless charging, removal of earphones and other things are already here. Not only by Samsung but by other Chinese companies.
They are lagging on the technology war and clearly losing. People don't want to wait a year cycle for stuff that it's already available and that will become obsolete in a year or two.
Technology is moving faster than ever.
The predicted iphone 7 will be a disappointment if they make it a 6ss instead. They need all the new technology now. Not in 2017

Curved screen and OLED are not necessarily a positive. A better camera and waterproofing will be available on the iPhone 7. And of course, no one mentions or quantifies the value of software because it is just 0s and 1s, costs nothing to scale, so it should be free.
But it runs Google Android. :p

In terms of actual use, a curved screen might not be a positive but for attracting new customers in a shop, it definitely adds to the 'wow factor' of the device. I actually disagree about the OLED as I think it's a huge positive. There were initially issues with screen burn-in and colour saturation, but as the technology matures these drawbacks have hugely diminished and are no longer large factors. In terms of benefits, the levels of contrast that OLED can deliver really does make everything look 'better' and colours don't have to be too punchy.

As for Android, I agree that the apps can be lacking in design and features compared to their iOS counterparts and this is one of the biggest reasons for me sticking with iOS.

Back in the day, the iPhone felt like a big deal. There was only one new model each year and people wanted it. Now they have like 3 versions released every year and none of them contain any useful features that the previous iPhones didn't already have. It's all very boring.

Totally agreed. Plus iOS is not moving either.

Even if the specs and all would be exciting, iOS does not make me feel I need them.
That's just my opinion of course.

So in other words Apple is in trouble because it gave to the critics and copied the competition with a larger phone?

The Galaxy S7 Edge would definitely tempt me over an iPhone 6s Plus if I didn't already own the iPhone. Curved screen, OLED display, better camera, waterproofing etc.

Just thought the same. It even has a glass back with no antennas visible because of that. The best is that all these features were predicted for the iPhone 8 (not 7!). If this is really true Apple comes with something that the competition introduces in 2015 (with the S6) and that shows a big deficit of innovation, the main selling point of Apple products.

Maybe I should sell my Apple shares by now.....

They might simply be following Samsung:

2016: iPhone 6X+SEmaxi without headphone jack, including protruding camera and 16 GB base, canary coloured antennas so you can't possibly miss them, thinner with shorter battery life – meltdown on Macrumors and drop in sales
2017: iPhone 7 – "the most revolutionary iPhone since the previous iPhone", 16 GB base, $100 price increase, even thinner with even shorter battery life, six antenna lines all over the phone – meltdown on Macrumors and drop in sales
2018: iPhone 7XE+S – return of headphone jack, flush camera, 1 mm thicker, water- and dustproof, wireless charging, no antenna lines, 128 GB base, 6 GB RAM, 2-day battery life – "Apple is back to the future!!!", fully funded by Macrumors members statues of Tim Cook erected in every city over 1 million inhabitants, record sales

Galaxy S7 isn't really a world record selling phone, it just sells better than S5 and S6 which were, well, crap. If you lower your expectations enough, you're going to be impressed.

PS. I'm sure Macrumors staff is doing the "respected analyst" thing for fun by now, they have a list of 20 adjectives and roll dice to decide which to irritate people with in today's post.

The problem is that the phone looks great only on paper.
The OLED display fades over time if you are gonna use the phone for over a year.
And the edged display offers not much extra functionality. Rather, due to lack of software optimisation, even normal content like webpages and videos is displayed over the curved edges making reading or watching or even playing games at times very tough.
The camera is good. Or better than iPhone. But the shots are not consistent in quality.
Battery is better though.
With all these points, I'd rather buy an iPhone or a Nexus. At least I'll be using the latest hardware.

This is fine with me. I don't really care about how much money Apple makes. As long as their devices are good enough for me, I'd purchase it. I'll let the stockholders worry about their current financial situation. Most normal consumers won't care. It's pretty simple: if Apple isn't innovating as fast as you like, then purchase a Samsung or LG device. There are TONS of options out there.

Man this guy just talks out of his rear end but knows that every stupid rumor site will publish his stuff as though it's the gospel. There's not one thing in this research note backed up by facts.

What are you going to do if it's true?

I held an S7 Edge in a phone store a couple of weeks ago because I was curious. It just... didn't feel quality. It might have been the fact that it was a display model, but it was a working device. It just didn't feel good in the hand.

A coworker of mine has one, and it looks and feels fantastic. I like it a lot more than my 6Plus. I would buy the S7 Edge in a heartbeat if I could have iOS on it.
