Hmm. Are the applications going through ApplePay? I'm wondering if this isn't like when people had tried to pre-order their Apple Watches with ApplePay and the banks flagged them as possible fraudulent charges (and declined them) as they were only used to seeing small iTunes purchases.
Going to be a bit of a PR snafu on Apple's part if they didn't clear the way for this processing with the banks without causing damage to peoples' credit scores.

The guy next to me was trying to buy the T-Mobile iPhone and got declined for this Apple Upgrade Program. He was pretty upset as he was sure he had great credit. I think there might be some errors with Apple's systems right now. It took me over half an hour just to purchase the phone because their T-Mobile systems were saying I was not eligible for an upgrade.

Looking at all the posts online, it seems the citizens bank system is likely overloaded and malfunctioning. I wonder if Apple will allow those of us that bought outright to repurchase through the upgrade program next week?

Low credit scores indicate the person is a deadbeat, regardless of how much money they make.

Very Not True. A lot of young people, just starting out with credit, can have a low credit score as they are building. It does not mean they are a deadbeat or anything even close to that. Additionally, there are people that go through major medical issues, which can damage credit, but does not mean they are a deadbeat.

Some people just make mistakes too, and those financial mistakes can live on through your credit score for a long time. You are not your credit score.

edit: I realize the irony in posting a Tyler Durden picture in an Apple product forum. Still funny.

I was declined and just got back home. I have a 740 credit score and was previously at 800. I came to see if anyone else had the issue as I had to call my wife who has a credit score just under mine but was approved. I looked at credit karma and the hard inquiry came through equifax and the only thing I can see is that I have quite a bit of hard inquiries over the year. I was dumbfounded to be declined as I guard my credit jealously.

Sounds like your wife is the first confirmed approval we have in the forums.

I've seen a few other approvals in some other forums. Lowest score approval I saw was from a guy with a 610.

EDIT: threads, not forums

Ugh, this sounds like a clusterf---. I'm sorry to all of the posters who were declined. This sounds like a horrible situation and one that I worried would happen. I hope you all receive your phones.

If servers are overloaded some may get through cleanly and I fully expect there to be more than a few. I'll wait to see what resolution for those of us denied incorrectly.

I wonder if Citizens Bank may be sensitive to hard inquiries. I just heard from a co-worker that has a score in the 780 range, but she was declined. She too thinks it is because she has several inquiries in the last year from a home and auto purchase. In my opinion, it is crazy that someone in the 780 range is declined.

Me too, I'm on top of my credit and I was declined with a 788 score. Just a bit annoying when you read that people w/ 610's are getting approved. Must be a glitch in the system.

Just spoke to someone who was approved. At first he was denied, not because of his credit rating but because his credit card declined the charge. He got on the phone w/ them and had the charge unlocked. Reran it, and it was approved. I'm just going to call ahead to AMEX and make sure nothing gets blocked before my appt this afternoon.

It sounds like it has less to do w/ credit score than your credit card co acting up.

when did this become a credit score forum? let's use it for the right think, where are the moderators?
Here's your answer, newbie: stop worrying about other folks and do your thing. No one likes a "tattle-tail;" even my 4-year-old knows that. If you think something is violating code of conduct, flag it for the Mods to review. Otherwise, move along.

FYI: Discussion about credit scores in a forum about applying for and either being accepted or rejected for credit seems pretty pertinent, don't ya think?
