I agree with most of what you are saying but no way in hell i would let them put another hard inquiry on my file. in either case within a 30 day period from the same vendor I don't think it counts twice. I am wanting to dispute the first hard pull from them...sob's
Well. If the same company can't add two pulls within 30 days... No harm no foul, right? Guess I'll just wait and see what the bank says tomorrow morning. Of course I'll update with what's said. I'm going to try and call the bank tonight when I'm off work (around 11) and see if any information is available then.

If anyone doesn't mind sharing, ... How many hard credit pulls do you have on your account in the past year? Did you get approved or not approved? The only thing I can think of is I purchased a car in February and applied at a few banks to find the lowest rate... I don't know though. It's the only "negative" thing I have on my equifax.

my friend just called me to update me of situation he was declined twice and it had to do with the credit card being attempted as a cash advance he switched to a different card was declined but received a text from his credit card company he pushed one that he did attempt it and it worked the following time...it does not look like the bank issue as much now as the credit card...what a F@^@$% disaster

I just got denied even though my credit was good enough earlier this month to get a car loan. Had to buy the phone in full. Total crap

Just a thought. Obtaining a "loan' which this kinda is, takes more into account than just your credit score. Do some of you have high DTI (don't answer that)? I guess that could be one reasoning why someone with high 700 scores are getting denied. Or a thin profile, low average age of accounts etc.

A hard pull isn't going to hurt you for more than a month. You need to relax if you're that worried about your credit score. That being said, everything we've read or been told is that it'll be a soft pull for the financing. Carriers do soft pulls for their financing and there's no reason to expect Apple and it's partner to do anything different.
I think poeople who post fica score are more about bragging than concern on how making a purchase, of course I could be wrong :)

It's just hard to believe with such high scores this is happening. I looked at both of my cards that I tried to use. All 6 attempts successfully authorized the purchase. So the card was at least being ran correctly in my situation.

It's does make sense. The people with the good credit could have much more outstanding debt because they over spend but make payments. That 18 year will not have a house note and tons of debt on their credit.
I've learned that someone driving a expensive car with a big house is 9 out of 10 broke/living beyond their expenses. Chances are that 18 year old pizza delivery guy is able to make the payments vs someone with a 850 credit score with tons of built up debt.

If you have a ton of outstanding debt you wouldn't have an 850 credit score. If you have a high debt to income ratio you have a lower score.

This would indicate that everyone who owns and is paying on a house would be declined this, because the amount of debt owed on the house would always be lower than a person's income, unless they are able to pay for a 5 - 6 figure house outright with cash.

DTI is calculated by taking your monthly debt payments in relation to your income. I have no debt aside from a student loan of to which I pay $90 a month on..

My DTI compared to my income is only a couple percent. That student loan is way more than I make a year.

Example: gross $5k a month, my only debt payment is $90, my DTI is 2%. If I want to add my rent ( I don't know is rent debt? not 100% clear on if you factor that) to it then my DTI is 20%. Anything under 36% is considered "good". Obviously the lower that percentage the better. etc etc

Thanks. This would give me some hope then. I don't have my reservation appointment until 1, and while the whole housing crash killed a lot of my credit, I did pay off a car loan completely, leaving only my house payments as the only thing active on my credit report. current payments would be a little over 25% of my net monthly income, and a little over 10% of my gross monthly income.

So I'm chattering teeth regarding the reservation today.

I disagree. Its more to give context to the situation. It doesn't make sense for someone with a high FICO score to be declined for a < 1000 dollar purchase. Not really a humble brag at all...

I hope that some people that are getting denied will report back what their letters from Citizens Bank says when they receive them in a week or two. It seems like there are quite a few people with high credit scores getting denied. It will be interesting to see what they show as the official reason.

Just spoke to someone who was approved. At first he was denied, not because of his credit rating but because his credit card declined the charge. He got on the phone w/ them and had the charge unlocked. Reran it, and it was approved. I'm just going to call ahead to AMEX and make sure nothing gets blocked before my appt this afternoon.

It sounds like it has less to do w/ credit score than your credit card co acting up.

I was hoping someone would say something about this.

I ended up calling Barclaycard last week just to be proactive about having an available balance and they had me verify with them that I would be starting the Upgrade Program.

Honestly, even with the Citizen One issues, and for all those of you with amazeballs credit, it's likely your credit card company ****blocking you and you just need to verify new loans with them.

Depends on the debt. Home and Auto are not the same as Credit Card debt. If someone is "living beyond their means" I don't consider that owing for a car or home. Not many people have a few hundred grand to throw at a home or $20,000+ to throw into a new car.

Car and home are considered consumer debt and will be factored into DTI along with student loans and credit cards. You can VERY easily live beyond your means with too much house and too much car...

Well, yeah... Maybe not for very long...

At the Apple Store now setting up my new 6S. The Apple employee was having trouble figuring it all out but once I got to the point where they're running my info and card, it all went fine. Transfer of the new iPhone to my TMO acct was smooth. I definitely think the declines are due to credit card companies. Some people around me had mismatched info or were still on contacts, etc but it all went fine for me.

Side Note: Chuck (Zachery Levi) was at the NYC 14th St store getting a new phone today also. Best Buy probably wouldn't like that. lol.

Just thought I'd post my two cents having just got back home from the Apple Store.

Signed up for a reservation. Got there. Front of the line quickly. Got the phone and began the checkout process and notified them I wanted to do the iPhone upgrade program.

I have a 724 credit score, a barclaycard through Apple, and a $4,000 available balance on the card I was trying to use with a combined household income of over $80,000. I've never been declined for any line of credit. Ever.

I was declined. At first everyone was getting declined. Then some started to work. Mine didn't. They attempted 3 or 4 times with absolutely no luck.

It immediately added a hard inquiry to my credit score. Although we attempted four times, for now it appears that it only hit my credit score once.

I'm beyond upset and will anxiously be awaiting my letter from the bank to find out why I was declined. I personally believe it was a system communication error. And that maybe I was approved but the system just didn't show it. I'm tempted to go back and try again tomorrow just to see if it was a launch-day-8-am issue or not.

ARGHHH!!! I had a similar experience. Appointment at 10AM central time. Super frustrating and a HUGE waste of my morning. Wish I could get a detailed report of why the approval was denied. If it was their error, as it appears to be for a LOT of folks, I think those wrongly denied should be moved to the front of the line tomorrow.

Why Apple didn't do pre-authorizations beforehand, to save all this headache, is beyond me.

Agree they should have done pre-auths. I highly recommend calling your credit card co to let them know in advance you're going to be doing this today. I did that at the recommendation of someone else who had issues but then worked it out w/ his CC and was then approved on re-run. I told AMEX it might charge up to $1500 in one swipe and they were like cool, we got you. I honestly believe it is something to do with the card they run than your actual credit score unless your credit score is really really bad.

Update: I called Apple corporate and went through all the different automated things until I finally was able to talk to a human. I moved up the totem pole a few times to speak with a manager and explained what happened.

Explained that most in my 8am group were denied. And that online hundreds of people with ridiculously good scores were being denied, and those with little to no credit were. I asked if the goal was to find people who had little good credit in hopes that they rack up fees, of course the answer was no.

I directed them to this forum, and other sites were hundreds of people were discussing it. They called citizens one with myself on the line and explained the situation. This was my final outcome:

At 8 am tomorrow, (because you can only do one reserve per 24 hours... So 24 hours from your reservation time if not 8am) make another appointment in store to get the new phone. Call citizens one 24 hours after their first attempt at processing your application. I received several emails regarding the financing so I can see when it was submitted. They at that time will have enough information from your application to tell whether you were legitimately denied (and the reasons) or if it was in error.

If it was an error, correct it and head back to Apple for round two. Unfortunately, they will have to pull your credit again and who knows... Two hard pulls in 24 hours may cause it to be denied again. But this is what Apple told me to do. Hopefully the bank can flag something to allow it to go through if it was an error.

Personally, if it is an error, I fully intend to dispute the hard pull.

I also got denied this morning, but did not get any emails about the financing. Ended up paying cash for the phone

I tried using my Apple barclaycard and my CitiCard Double Cash... Or whatever it is. Both had 4,000+ available. Both declined.

They are interested in your credit score. Having a high cash liquidity on your credit cards doesn't necessarily mean you have good credit

Wait a month and dispute the hard inquiry. Tell the bureau, you specifically told Apple not to run the report. Show them your full price receipt. They will remove it. Do all 3 bureaus as they sometimes feed one another.

This JUST happened to me. They wouldn't run it again but it has to be technical glitch because my credit score literally got checked two days ago and was also well into 700s and I could pay for it outright on the same credit card (plus my wife's which is due for delivery today) used to check to see that I could do 3 months of payments.

This was an incredibly frustrating experience when you add in the fact that they had a hard time getting my purchase to even go through in the first place because of AT&T consolidated billing (I merged in DirecTV to save $10/mo) apparently causes activation glitch too.

I'm hoping there's some internet clarity on why my credit got denied and I'm awaiting the letter. I bought it outright with the idea of returning and re-buying on the plan in a week.

Below 750 ish is not a high score anymore. Check your open revolving credit total and total amount used. I will bet that is is the reason for the decline.
