Did calibrating the LCD fix the problem: Haven't tried it. It's not a big deal at all. The display is still beautiful. I'm still on my honeymoon with this thing tho.
Did exchanging the MBP fix the problem: Had it for 5 days, and so far so good. still have 9 more days till i can exchange in case of something really bad. so far, its lookin like no exchanging will be needed

Other Comments:
This thing is BEAUTIFUL. still amazed at it, might take a few more days to wear off. So far I am impressed. Windows works great, had a few difficulties getting some VSTs to work on Logic. Nothing big and must-need vsts.

I'm lookin for a fairly cheap but good sounding Firewire DSP/interface... Anyone know anything good?

This is the information for my third MacBook Pro. The first one went back because the screen had a very noticeable ripple effect to it. The second went back because the trackpad was bulging at the top and peeling up from the surface of the Mac at the bottom. I have to say I'm pretty disappointed with Apple's QA, but I do think I finally found a good machine. I'm glad to have the Apple Store nearby, and the Geniuses were great to work with each time.

This is my fourth MBP now. It looks great so far but I have noticed a flickering effect which resembles feint waves of horizontal lines travelling up the screen, when the brightness is set to less than 100%. It's mostly visible on a plain dark background - I only first noticed it after I'd reinstalled the OS and going through the registration process again, which was on a dark grey background.

Was very annoyed as I hoped this one would be perfect after all the problems I've had. I have to say though that right now I'm running Safari and iChat and not really noticing the flicker, so hopefully can live with this one. The other issues I'd previously experienced (non-display related) were kernel panics and power management/battery problems. I've yet to calibrate the battery or even try this machine out on battery power but so far, aside from the flickering, the display looks good!

Other Comments:Optical drive starting making strange sound, called Apple, they captured it and wanted it returned. Before I could return for the Optical Drive problem, it just "went black" while my daughter was on the internet. It then would not start up properly - push power button, get to apple screen, then shut down, then start up , then shut down - all by itself. Really strange.
We returned the MacBook Pro for a full refund. Too much time and effort to load applications and have this happen. Paid 3500.00 Quality seems poor. The material reminded me of the cheap plastic calculators and alarm clocks that are made in China. Our Power Book G4 is titanium and much better made. LCD HD screen looked great though. Think we will wait to order again when all of the bugs are worked out- hopefully when Leopard comes out.

It's beautiful :) Only things I noticed about it were that the keys all the way on the left side of the keyboard were slightly raised (which in turn prevents the screen from completely closing...there's a little gap on the left side, hope I won't run into any issues), and slot loading drives sure do make a lot of noise. Last night I ripped a DVD using Mac the Ripper and converted it to MPEG-4 using HandBrake. The fans did rev up but they were pretty quiet.

Returned twice to Apple for repairs via mail. The first time they replaced the hardware that powers the LED backlighting. The second time they completely replaced the LCD (with another Samsung). The issue remained unresolved. Laptop will be shipped back a third time and they will apparently be replacing the logic board.

Product specialist all but promised a replacement if this next repair doesn't fix it.

Here are my attempts to illustrate the issue with my crappy digital cam and poor photo taking abilities :)
