This is a replacement for a Samsung matte display that where darker at bottom 1/3 of the screen and very yellow over all (despite calibrating). Apple handled the replacement procedure very good. I got to keep the faulty computer until the new one arrrived. I had a couple of hours to compare the two units, and the Samsung display wheren't by far up to par with the LG.

There isn't any yellowing going on this display, but the bottom 1/30 of the screen is a tiny bit darker (uneven darkening). It's not something you would normally notice, only if you look hard enough. I'm happy with this unit.

Im getting a replacement and it will take another 3 wheeks for me to get one.
This is my first experience with apple, and so far im not impressed. They told me I would be the first one on the list to get one. So i guess no one is getting one for 3 wheeks? liars!

In an effort to better organize the information regarding these new MBPs, I figured it might be easier if I put this form, and you just copy and paste the answers.. if you answered in the other thread, please answer again so this one can be more definitive..

To find the screen manufacturer, open up system preferences and go to Display.. Then go to the Color tab, select the Color LCD profile, and then click on Open Profile.. The information is displayed on line 13.. 9C67 is LG.. 9C68 is Samsung

To find the manufactured week, it is located within your serial number, found on the bottom of the packaging box. It starts with W87XX. The first two numbers after the 7 is your manufacturing week.

OK, after six pages of replies, are you or someone else going to compile the data so that some sort of conclusion can be drawn, not that I'm sure one will be valid with an unscientific survey such as this, however it could prove interesting in regardless.

Maybe this'll be a good opportunity for people to use the new numbers ;p If no one does it by the end of my work day I guess I'll give it a whirl when I get home...

Yea, I'm that bored. :p

Overall quality very good. Screen has even backlight and normal increment/decrement of brightness with no perceptible sound. However, it is not perfect :(. The screen sometimes flickers at < 100%. Noted if I go to lowest brightness minus one or if automatic screen dim is active. It appears a buzz sound and vertical bright and shadow lines (about 10) through botom 1/3 of the screen. Screen does not increment brightness on every step, only on some of them with increased buzz. Seems to happen less often, but now I have automatic dim deactivated. If the computer goes to sleep or it is restarted everything is Ok again .

Perfect, screen has an even back lit for a change.

Yellowing tally

Well, here's a tally for the 1/3 yellowing issue so far...

81 perfect/calibrated screens, or 74% no
29 with bottom 1/3 issue, or 26% yes

If someone would tally the number of LGs versus the number of Samsungs, we may have a 2nd variable with which to compare this defect.

Cheers :)

After going through 3 displays, I'm on my 4th (just got the repair back today) and guess what? 9C68 Samsung with yellowing at the bottom and the screen change did not fix the fact that the right side is darker than the left, which leaves me to believe this is a problem with the casing itself.

I'm soooo tired of this run around. I payed almost $3000 for this machine and Apple can't give me a descent screen.

Looks like my next notebook won't be a MBP... :apple:
