Is that an Apple Configurator custom OTA blocker? Or the one the OP made that you installed it and you delay it every 90 days?
I used the Defer90.mobileconfig script mentioned earlier in this thread. I installed it after a Sequoia update on Sep, 19th 2025.

EDIT: Just checked, it is still holding strong :)

Happy New Year everyone!

How can I do the same for iOS 18?
I'm a little late to the party here, but deferring updates on iOS devices is easy. Enroll yourself in the iOS 18 public beta channel and iOS 26 will not appear. ...This is "safe" because they're not actually putting out iOS 18 beta builds anymore, but you still get the regular updates (18.7.1, 18.7.2, 18.7.3, ...).

...This likely will not work for much longer, as they'll stop offering iOS 18 builds for devices that are eligible for iOS 26. You will be able to stay on iOS 18 this way, but you'll stop getting security updates. However, you can use the same trick later this year when iOS 27 is released, if you want.

The same thing works with most other OS's (tvOS, iPadOS, ...). But you can't use the same "trick" to permanently defer macOS updates, at least not without disruption. Apple does still put out beta builds for macOS 15 and 14 updates, so if you enroll in the macOS 15 public beta to avoid Tahoe, you'll be getting offered a new Sequoia beta/RC build every week or so.

I just noticed that the "profile" policies to defer macOS have been deprecated (as already mentioned in this thread), so I'm a little bit concerned about how this is going to look later this year when macOS 27 is released. I do like having the option to stay a release behind, and without being nagged about it.......

You are quite late, even MacRumors wrote an article :)

When I enrolled a Sequoia virtual machine into the beta program, Tahoe was still being shown as an available update.

Some tricks for September 2026 :) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/defer-tahoe-for-90-days.2465304/post-34336909

Mine just shows a 15.7.4 preview build....... but I do have the 90-day deferral policy in place and maybe that still hasn't kicked in yet.

Anyone played with free MDM solutions?
I'm looking at, for example, ManageEngine which has a free plan for managing up to 25 devices.
I'm wondering if that would be a simpler way to "defer upgrades" or manage OS updates. Might try it out in the next few days.

I meant to point out that, unlike on iOS, just enrolling into the beta program on macOS does not hide the upgrade option, Tahoe now.

Deferring upgrades/updates on macOS does not require MDM.
In Apple’s documentation the options that are only available through MDM appear with “Requires supervision”.
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/devicemanagement/restrictions
In iMazing Profile Editor, “Supervision required” is mentioned under the values that require MDM.

Hi, just got this message—sure enough, without a 'x' close button, although I did install the following:
  • SoftwareUpdate.mobileconfig profile
  • NoBubbleNew.mobileconfig profile
and run the command 'Set MajorOSUserNotificationDate to 2035'. No upgrade bubble though in the Dock. Does anyone encounter the same? Any suggestions to get rid of? Thanks

Tahoe is still hidden by Defer90.mobileconfig, install that profile. Reboot after.
