I think you answered it. What I meant was when you close the flap portion, does it use a rubber piece to hold against the band (if you look on the original, the magnet has rubber feet that suppose to prevent it from slipping) does the new one use that same method?

What holds the female portion of the lock in place when the flap is closed?

Thank you for the info.
That flap is only used for sizing, then you don’t touch it again. It clamps down and doesn’t move. This is the part you open and close. Nothing is moving once it’s clicked into place.

rested it on my M4 iPad's aluminum magic keyboard palm rest for 1 second while typing, now it has a permanent scratch on the buckle. ridiculous

I was reading that the black scratches really easy and the black wears off over time.

It does not generally. If you get an easy scratch with regular use you have a defect.

This thing has been out a month or so. There is no possible way to know that at this point.
There is a video of a 30 day review on it, the bottom clasp is pretty marked up, just from using his MacBook.

I think this is my favorite band that they've come out with it breathes well, dries well when you wash your hands and doesn't have any ill effect from getting wet. It doesn't pull my hair while I'm wearing it and it has very precise adjustment that doesn't move once you set it so you can get it to a comfortable size easily and it doesn't shift. If you do need to adjust it it's really easy to adjust while you are wearing it throughout the day. Also looks great IMO and hasn't come off my watch since I got it last week.

Got the medium natural love it. Weighs an ounce, very compfy, looks great as it matches the watch. Build quality feels like a high-end Swiss band. Grade 5 Titanium. I think it's well worth the $199. I have 3 Ocean bands, but this will stay on the watch.

I just got mine in the mail today and my first impressions are a little mixed. I ordered the large size since my wrists were right at the limit of the medium but I feel it is too big. It fits fine but the clasp sits right at the radius of my wrist, right where my wrist touches the table while typing so that is not ideal and I feel like there is all the excess material. Also I wore it for a while and then took it off and I have an indent of the milanese pattern in my skin. I could make it looser but I already got it just right so that it's not flopping around loosly on my wrist and also I want the HR sensor to work correctly so it has to be snug otherwise accuracy drops drastically. I don't know if I had gotten the medium, maybe it would be too small but I guess that's the struggle when you are between sizes. Maybe Apple should make 4 sizes instead of 3 so that people are more likely to get one that fits well instead of having to size up and get a strap that's way too big with tonnes of excess strap. It feels OK on my wrist but not as comfortable as the trail loop which I have been using for like 20 months. I'll keep trying it but at this early stage I am already considering returning it.

I wimped out on the price. I found a Titanium Milanese Loop Band that is identical, at least in the photo's. to the Apple branded one from SWISST

✓ Material: Grade 2 Titanium
✓ Size: Compatible with 49-45mm Case Sizes
✓ Band Length: 110 mm - 220 mm
✓ Weight: 2.36 oz. (67g.)

They are $79.97, or two for $127.95 ( 20% discount) I purchased the pair you see below. They are coming directly out of China. If I really like this band than in the future I might spring for the Apple branded one.

Update I have been wearing it for about 24 hours now and it's growing on me. The initial discomfort is almost gone so I suspect my skin will get used to the slightly rougher texture of the Milanese loop compared to the trail loop which is super soft and supple. I do wish it was like 20mm shorter though so maybe I should have gotten the medium instead of large. Note that I am 194cm tall (6'4") with a medium build so large seemed like the obvious choice and my measurements of my wrist agreed so maybe this is just how these watch bands are? I suspect that if I got the medium, it might have been a bit tight getting it over my hand when taking if off or putting it on. I really like the lustre of the band so that's a plus. I got the natural titanium since I am still rocking the Ultra 1 and waiting for the Ultra 3. I also love that I can swim with this band with no worries about it coming off. That was the one and only thing I didn't like about the Trail Loop and I almost had my watch slide off my wrist a few times while swimming. I wish I had an Apple shop nearby so that I could have tried the medium band before buying, but se la vie. At least it fits and isn't too small because that would have been a much worse position to be in! I also find that it's quite bulky where the band loops through the attachment point in the watch. It's not the cleanest look and I wish the band had a tighter bend radius so that this bit was tidier. I have tried wearing it both ways around i.e. with the fixed end at the bottom of the watch face or at the top of the watch face and I think I prefer it with the fixed end at the top since that puts the bulkier part of the band closer to me. Either way is nice though. So yeah I think I like this watch band and I think I will keep it, just a couple of minor complaints RE the length and bend radius.

I share some of your sentiments. Here’s my 2 cents on where I’ve landed. Sorry for the long winded text. I’m very detailed in my thinking .

1. Centered Clasp: The more I’ve thought about it though, as someone who has worn watches and loved them my whole life, every metal bracelet has a good chance of not being perfectly centered on someone’s wrist. Most bracelets require an odd number of links for many people, which makes it slightly off center. They would need to make a much larger number of sizes to achieve this. My guess is that only those who are nearly smack in the middle of each size are getting very centered clasps.

2. Loop Size/bend: I completely agree that it would look cleaner if the loop at the end was tighter. I don’t think there’s any way around this without making the material thinner, which isn’t what they were going for with this band compared to the original Milanese Loop. Some watch companies deal with excess material by keeping in more towards the underside of the wrist, by using links that match the mesh appearance on the bottom or by using a traditional watch strap clasp and holes in the band. I’m guessing that Apple’s method might fit the widest number of wrist sizes, but I don’t know.

The bonus with the Link Bracelet is you can connect the links asymmetrical to help centre. I have five links one side and none the other that gets the clasp dead centre. Wish there was a micro adjustment though for wrist size changes throughout the day. One thing the Milanese days VERY well.

The bulky bend at the lug is a thing I don't like about the Milanese. (and the fact my OCD won't let me keep one as the clasp isn't centred).

Same here. Just received Natural Titanium for Ultra. So comfortable and lightweight.

Mine has scratched in less than a week, too. That’s the downside of bead blasted titanium. Titanium is more prone to scratching and bead blasted metal can’t easily be touched up, unlike brushed titanium.

I really wish they done all their titanium watches with brushed finish, though that would probably increase production costs (which I’d guess is why they moved to bead blasted and polished). I was always tempted by the edition watches with brushed titanium but never pulled the trigger.

I had a feeling the black band was going to scratch easily....also have a feeling it will wear off over time. I guess this is the price you pay for the black color. I wonder if it gets bad, will apple do something about it?

If it scratches this easily, the black will most defiantly wear off from every day use.

I think I am going to stick to the natural titanium. I do want to see what the black looks like after a few months of daily use.

I had both the natural and the black. They were really great, but the black looked like plastic, and you could barely see the brush. Had it a year, and lifted crazy at the gym and not a single scratch!!

Got one at the Apple Store today and returned it 5 minutes later. Disliked the look of the buckle, also didn't like how hard it was to adjust enough so it is more snug on my wrist. Really liked the Milanese loop and the build quality but that buckle saved me £200. Back to the excellent Nomad titanium bracelet!
