Finally just got permission from the wife to get the watch.
Good thing I preordered at 2:01am CST!

All it is going to cost me is an 'awesome Mother's Day gift"

Apple Watch SS Black Sports Band.
Ordered 4/10 2:01am CST
Status: Processing Items Delivers: 4/24-5/8 by Standard Shipping

"Awesome Mother's Day gift" you say? How about a 38mm Stainless Steel Apple Watch with the pink modern buckle? Check mate.

Theirs is coming from China. Yours is stalking you from right around the corner... Its been sitting within 50 miles of you for a few days, taunting you.
Well, at least that's just my theory.
Your order was in earlier so you are getting one that's already produced, close to you, and likely to be delivered on the 24th.
Meanwhile the guy who has been charged and is prepping to ship is coming from the factory and may or may not get to his doorstep on the 24th...
Thoughts?

or maybe cause they ordered after you there watch is hot of the press and shipping from China. Not from a warehouse in your country....

So I just called and talked to a rep. She said everything looks fine on my account, no red flags, just to sit tight. I asked her about the idea of orders processing first based on location vs distribution center and she sounded extremely confident that this was not the case. She did confirm, however, that almost all of these in the first wave look like they are coming from inside the US and not China.

She also added that she has seen significantly more orders move to preparing for shipment that were placed via the apple store app rather than through the website but that could be coincidence.

Hmmm then I'm going to need a little more movement than your last minute shipment notification. I'm still over hear waiting on anything for my 42 Space Gray Sport with :03 confirmation :p

I'd say if your card isn't charged by Wednesday night or Thursday morning it might be time to worry. It seems like everyone that got a prepare to ship yesterday saw their status change within a 1-2 hour window (like 5-7pm est). Maybe Apple is processing all the other orders now and will do a mass change, charging all the cards and updating all the orders to 'preparing to ship'

Why bother having the chat function at all? Siri can take over for the employees and just read everyone their order statuses.

"That sucks that I won't have my order on time? Don't you have any information on my Apple Watch shipping times?"

"I found 4 places that serve Snapple near you."

That would literally be better support.

Hahahahahahahah.

I have the same experience as yours. Yesterday it was preparing for shipment, but I found it went back to processing items a few minutes ago. That's so weird.

Same here, though my order was preparing for shipment yesterday during the initial rush, went back to processing a few hours later and has remained at processing. Oh well.

My Assessment of How this works

So. Just thinking how this cycle works:

1. The watches get sent from the Asia in palettes to distribution centers across the world.
2. Each palette contains a number of watches from each "SKU" which is basically size, material, band combo. (I assume the reason the sports bands got the 2 sizes included is to reduce SKUs)
3. Once the palette arrives to the distribution center it is scanned into the warehouse as "Apple Inventory". Until this moment the watches are legally still Apple property and hence cannot be invoiced to customers.
4. Apple online orders are assigned to distribution centers based on customer ship location. So at this point we have "distribution center" inventory and "distribution center" orders under fulfillment.
5. Each day the new shipments get scanned into "inventory" and once that is completed, individual invoices are raised based on that inventory and orders under fulfillment for this particular distribution center. If inventory is not enough, then not all orders are fulfilled. If inventory is sufficient, then orders are processed and invoiced.

The key takeaway from this is that we need to think more along the lines of distribution centers and orders being fulfilled versus all of us being in one queue.

Think of it like this. Apple sends product to many locations, each one has it's own separate queue. How quickly we get our product is dependent on our position in that queue as well as the available product at that particular location.

Hope this helps

Well I ordered through the website and mine went to preparing to ship like 21 hours ago. Id venture to say that the model you ordered plays a much bigger factor in the timeline than the method used.

My theory is that these watches are being taken off of massive skids at local distribution centers and then applied to orders. It'd make sense that different models are packaged together, so the admin is probably taking one watch from the pile, adding it to your order, charging the card and changing your order status.

I just finished chatting with Apple order support. They were absolutely no help. They kept telling me info I already knew. Blah!

Poor Apple Support.

Having to put up with phone calls from people who can't wait for their order status to change which should be within the next day or two.

Again, just posted on this site..

Apple Watch orders that have not yet changed should not cause alarm, as based on the early tracking info received, Apple is using Next Day Air shipments.

No my pepperoni brethren, no you are not.
Ordered T + 11min in Las Vegas, NV and no updates on it.

No. You are not alone :)

My order is confirmed at T+6. I assume we are both in the same distribution zone, so let's see if they get enough today for both of us :)

I just pinned them down on telephone customer service -- supposedly mine IS indeed shipping from the US. So there IS HOPE! Still nothing as far as charges and still processing! Yuck, I just despise that “P" word!
