Hi Everyone,

Just thought this was weird, but it is cheaper here on Dell's canada website.
Pick it up while you can!!

CDN$1999 seems like a very good price, maybe too good to be true...makes me wonder what's up. The warranty on US models is 3-years, but at the Canadian store you pointed out, it's "1 Year Advance Exchange Service". A 1-year limited warranty is $99 extra, but if we're speaking in Canadian dollars, this is a sweet deal.

Re: Brightness Vs. The ACD

PC Magazine just reviewed this display and, I quote, "in normal desktop use, you'll actually want to crank the 3007WFP's brightness down to minimum. Staring at a large, overbright display for a full day is a recipe for eyestrain. The display's lowest brightness settings are in line with ergonomic recommendations, but the display still maintains a contrast ratio close to the rated 700:1."

Therefore, in conclusion, brighter is not necessarily better.

Lack of video inputs and HDCP compatabilty

A lot of people have suggested that this display lacks consumer video inputs because it would eat into Dell's HDTV sales, but the same could be said for the 2405WFP. I'm wondering if low res analog video on this display would have ment extra video processing circuitry. I doubt you will be able to run next gen game consoles on this thing. Yes it has HDCP, but I think thats mainly for Windows Vista compatabilty. You need Dual-Link to drive this thing so I doubt you will ever see any consumer HDCP video device that could drive it. The resolution is overkill for a simple 1080p home theater system.

The 23" ACD's are notorious for quality issues. Remember the pink hue problems?

We bought four (count'em ;) ) Apple Cinema Displays, and sent every single one of them back because of color distortion problems and generally uneven backlight.

Replaced them with four Dell 2405FPW's, and they are perfect.

I'm a big Apple fan, but I will definitely be wary of their displays in the future.

Funny, I experienced the opposite - but with the 20". We bought three Dell 2005FPWs at work and they had unnacceptable backlight issues. They were replaced with Apple 20" Cinema Displays, Which are great.

The 23" ACD issues are well documented, so I guess in that case I'd go with another company. But in the 20" category...I own a 2005FPW. It didn't have the problems that the ones at work had but it does have a slightly noticable backlight bleed at the corners when the screen is black. Not so bad that I would return it but the backlight Apple uses on their 20 inchers seems to be superior. Both displays use the same LCD panel.
