We do? did I miss how many (Apple Watch) they declared to have sold? No we don't!

Simply put, in business when you have a popular product that is selling very well, you don't drop the price. Apple is not a charity, they have a fiduciary responsibility to their investors to maximize profits. If a product is selling well, reducing your profit margin will only hurt you. How many times over the years has Apple dropped the price of the iPhone? Only once, for the gen 1, which wasn't selling well.

Also do you really belive they could sell record ammount of stuff evry quarter indefinetly?

Do you have a point? I never said anything about "record ammount of stuff evry quarter" (lol, I just had fun retyping that). Anyhow, fluffing sales numbers by saying they "exceeded our expectations" while not revealing launch numbers is pretty damning and deceiving to the naive. Luckily, investors have seen through this ruse.

Does the SE use different glass panels on the back from the 5s? Or have they always looked like this?

The white SE front has a totally different look than the two back panels.

So the iPhone did not do well?? I mean they lowered the price like a month after it was released.
And yet became the nr1 in the business.

Gen 1 vs gen 1 the watch is doing better, the drop came after a year...so it will be a huge success in the long run...

I hear they were going to break into a "personal computers" market too, but the experts all say theres no money in such venture.

I strongly urge you to read about Apple's history.

Do you have evidence that you can point to that contradicts the rumours and indications that they are?

You want me to point to evidence of rumors? And on a rumors website?

Wow.

That industry could change. Remember the Phone industry before the iPhone? Carriers ruled the world, and device money was made on volume.

...because if we can put a man on the moon then we can surely put one on the Sun, right?

A consumer electronics company making a new electronics product is a far cry from a consumer electronics company going into the automotive industry.

No, I asked you to point to evidence *disputing* the rumours. The rumours at least come from sources and various sites that have a history of accuracy. You seem convinced that it's not likely, but don't seem to have anything to back it up.

I strongly urge you to pick up on sarcasm ;) I've read Steve's biography and own mountains of apple products including a full working 512K and an Apple II.

Happy to take part in a "history-off" any day of the week!

you're an idiot if you believe this. every release of iphone has this stupid over demand crap.

who can read on a 4" screen.

Correct, the gen 1 iPhone didn't do so well. In fact, comparatively, it really didn't take off until the iPhone 3G, which was when it became subsidized by carriers.

In the case of the Apple Watch, which I own and love btw, it's not being held back by a prohibitory high price. It's being held back because it really doesn't offer much. I see mine as a fantastic convenience, but I really don't see it following the iPhone's success. In fact, it will never be as successful as the iPhone. There's just not that much potential there.

Anyways, back to the crux of the argument, the iPhone SE. It doesn't matter what spin Tim Cook gives it, without sale numbers, his words are meaningless and without context. He also once said the iPhone 5c "exceeded expectations" and we know how that went. Coincidentally, or not, Apple never released sale numbers for the 5c either, but did for every other iPhone.

A little phone can fit comfortably in large AND small hands, whereas a large phone can ONLY fit (just about) comfortably in large hands, so guess why it's a winner? Because the 3.5-4" iPhone was never EVER a "loser" OR a poor product, it's just that phablet snobs who can't see past the end of their fickle noses start making childish comments and snotty remarks, LOL. :D

4" phone means better grip and ease of use - man, consumers are idiots, their views change with the rise and fall of the tide, no joke or surprise though.

There's almost no screen on a 4" phone. I would never, for any reason, go back to 4". Hardly even usable after using a larger screen.

If Apple had never made a larger iPhone, there'd be nothing to make a fuss about. 4" is just fine, you're just not determined enough - anyone can use it just perfectly fine.

If Apple decided to start releasing retro models of Macs, the iMac G4 for example, with modern internals, I would love that and would buy one.

Oh hell damn YES! And while we're at it: BRING WHITE BACK!

I think it's obvious whats happened. Everyone on Earth already has a smart phone and the newer smart phones don't really do anything the old ones can't. OK incremental upgrades in the specs but the new phone does not allow me to do things I can't currently do.

So in the future selling phones will be like selling toilets or refrigerators. Everyone I know z9here in the US) has at least one each toilets and refrigerator and only buys a new one when the old one breaks and can't be fixed. The companies selling these still make lots of money. This will be the way of phones now that they are mature and common. From an environmental point of view we don't really want billions of phone being made, used then trashed after a few years. In a perfect world we'd keep a phone for as long as we keep a TV set This happens as a product becomes mature. It see rapid change at first then after some years the design and features become more stable. I hope this happens with phones and it looks to be happening

Apple will need to think up some new product that today no one thinks they need. I don't that will be a car. OK, maybe Apple's plan for the car is to offer them in some new way, perhaps "transportation as a service" (like Uber but driverless) If they could do that (A driverless Uber-like service that is sold by SUBSCRIPTION) they could revolutionize another industry. This way Apple would not be selling cars. But I doubt they still have the vision, Steve is gone.

100% agreed. People just don't seem to get it. Probably, maybe, including Apple stockholders... but while not only helping the environment if people wouldn't (need to) upgrade every year, in my opinion it would also be beneficial if the iPhone moved away from being a status symbol. Watching teenagers "demanding" an almost $1k thing - every year! - is just sad... It would certainly help people getting their priorities straight again.

Lets just admit it, apple beat everyone to the punch. They took their numbers and used them to justify the need for a 4 inch device again and the device is selling like hot cakes. Soon we will see Samsung come out with their version of a 4-4.5 inch galaxy device in order to take some of that market apple has. well played apple, well played...

I'm sure Apple / Cooks confidence in said device is why there is such a huge amount of them on the market. Spin is spin. They tested the water again with the 4inch - maybe using whatever unsold bodies of the iPhone 5 they had laying around.
Given everything Apple has done in the Cook years I'm far too cynical to think this was anything more than eating up unsold 5 stock and iPhone 6 parts.

Can anyone explain to me why the SE is $399 from Apple, but $499 for the 16GB at Best Buy?
Probably the same reason why Verizon still has the retail price of the cellular iPad Air 2 16gb at $629. Don't know how they can get away with that.

I am still looking for a 64GB slate gray SE. None to be had here in my part of Virginia.
we are on the same boat, have been looking for se for 10 days lol does this kind of demand for new iphone happen every year?

Guess Apple didn't expect people to buy a cheaper iPhone rather than the expensive flagship model even if it has a tiny display

Funny...I'm looking forward to the BIG display on the iPhone SE since I'm moving from a 4s!

It's odd to hear everyone calling it a "tiny" display.

LOOOL! :)

Wait...you're not being sarcastic?

FLASHBACK...
Apple has now posted additional details regarding the 3G iPhone, including: Screen: 3.5 inches (diagonal); 480x320 pixels (163 ppi)Jun 9, 2008

Agreed. There's no reason they couldn't have launched the iPhone 6 in three sizes 4" 4.7" and 5.5". The strategy they adopted left 4" users with nowhere to go which is why many of them never upgraded to the iPhone 6.
I'll second that! While I do own one of each, and I prefer using my 6 plus to using a tablet, I still find my 4" models much more portable friendly, and just as easy to use as any of the bigger ones, so my 6 Plus tends to stay at home for watching videos, but it's my 5S that I still treat as my main phone, simply because it's so much easier to bring with me everywhere. (don't get me wrong, the 6 and 6 plus are sort of portable still, but I personally prefer being able to keep my phone in my jeans pocket without looking like I'm just pleased to see you, if you know what I mean) lol. So whenever it comes time to upgrade mine again, it will be the 4" versions that I'm looking for, and not the 4.7" or 5.5".

I honestly was a little saddened last year back when it looked like only 4.7" and 5.5" models looked like they were going to totally replace the 4", but this year seeing that the SE came out and being more or less identical to the 5S besides the performance upgrades was music to my ears, and I'm glad to see that alot of us still feel that way. Even if they keep the 4.7" and 5.5" sizes for all the customers who did prefer these (let's face it, we're all different, and we're all paying customers, so nobody is wrong), I sincerely hope they continue the 4" size as a standard mainstay in all future lineups. I'm clearly not the only person who thinks this, and it does appear that Apple was listening when they brought out the SE. So just wanted to voice this strong opinion publicly so that they can see that it still has alot of popularity as a size preference, and that this is what I'll be voting for with my wallet next time I'm due to replace my old phone.

I wish they had released this a year earlier, I'd have gone for this rather than an iPhone 6! Always surprised me to see people, online at least, clambering for larger phones. How do those people put them in their pockets, I already find the iPhone 6 too big and I'm 6'!

Apple hasn't divulged sales numbers for the recently released iPhone SE, but during today's second quarter earnings call, company executives said that demand for the device was "very strong" and higher than expected.

According to Apple CEO Tim Cook, the iPhone SE puts Apple in a strategic plan to attract new customers with its affordable price point and powerful internal specifications. Cook says Apple is working hard to meet demand and improve shipping times for the device.

Since its release, the iPhone SE has been in short supply despite reports of lackluster sales. For the past several weeks, new iPhone SE orders have listed expected delivery times of two to three weeks, suggesting Apple has not yet been able to meet demand for the device.

Priced attractively at $399 for the entry-level 16GB model, the iPhone SE adopted the external design of the iPhone 5s with parts sourced from later iPhone models like the iPhone 6 and the 6s. The result is a 4-inch iPhone that is on par performance wise with Apple's current flagship devices.

Positive news about the iPhone SE comes as Apple is reporting its first ever decline in iPhone sales and its first year-over-year decline in revenue in 13 years. During the quarter, Apple sold 51 million iPhones, down from 61 million in Q2 2015. Revenue was at $50.6 billion, down from $58 billion in the year-ago quarter.

Apple's guidance for Q3 2016 suggests it expects the downward trend to continue, with the company forecasting expected revenue of $41-43 billion. In Q3 2015, Apple posted revenue of $49.6 billion.

Give us the numbers and we'll decide what's "strong" and who is "thrilled" or not.

Use it? I can hardly hold the little thing. I tried playing with my niece's iPod Touch after having my 6S.... nope.
