Heh, I was a newbie, the day after I joined the site - I joined the Demi's and I haven't regretted it since.

That's where I'm at, though I've been registered here for awhile. I didn't even know there were hidden forums until I contributed, and I don't really post here [or in any message boards] that often.

I simply did it to support the site and help out in the way that I could. I'd have been complacent without the title under my name, but I'm happy that there's no highlighting of names to those who contributed. ... I don't like it when sites do that.

I thought you became a Demi from getting a huge post count...and then people like Silent Panda who are contributers gave money?

As Peyton said, once you contribute you can choose to be either a Demi-God, Demi-Goddess or Contributor. Being a Demi has nothing to do with post count - higher posts counts lead to more advanced processors as rankings.

Nope... the only thing more posts will get you is a way cool number like mine. :D

I though about contributing a while back, but decided to wait a bit. Get to know everyone first, names will pop up all the time, iGary posts a ton of stuff and has a kick ass mac, ~Shard~ is apparently a supper hot canadian with a few fans in Chicago (i think) ;) , once you know this then decide if you want to contribute.

I was a registered user for 3 years (and a lurker for at least a year before that) before I contributed. Don't feel the need to rush it.

I've been pondering demi-ness for a while.

Mainly, I just want an 'ickle avatar. But I don't want to cheat my way into avatarness by throwing money at it. I want to earn it with my post count.

... then again, I do want to give MR some cash. Now, I know I could just pay the contribution and not set up an avatar until the magic 500th post. But I don't think my self-discipline will let me do that.

I think I'll stick to my plan. Post until I hit 500, then contribute, then get myself avatar'd up.

Contributing does not mean you automatically get a 'tar. The same 500 post applies to paying customers too. Good luck with the next 246 posts. :)

The only reason why they choose to have the demi title is to hide their ridiculoulsy high post counts :D

I hope you guys are kidding. I mainly contributed to contribute.
contribute |k?n?tribyo?t; -by?t| verb [ trans. ] give (something, esp. money) in order to help achieve or provide something : he contributed more than $500,000 to the center |

That was my feelings so far.

It takes money to keep a website going. Servers to handle the traffic. The connection to the internet and the bandwidth charges. And everything else.

~Shard~Shhhhhhhut up!!! Next thing you know you'll reveal how all contributors get free iPods... [/QUOTE said:
Must have lucked out when I joined, I got a Mac mini. :D :D :D

This is one reason I like being a Demi. No one can call me on wanting to increase my post count.

you think you get more respect? no. check this out https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/199056/

So should people respect you because your parents are buying you a £2000+ laptop or because you spent $25 on a title (which i could understand if it were a KBE), not sure I get your point. At any rate, you get a degree for graduating, anything else is a big bonus.

no, I was showing that I'm a demi, if you looked at the thread, people were getting a little irate with me and therefore, demi does not = respect.

;)

glutton for punishment, eh? :p

it's true though (what's been said), demi is not synonymous with respect. you gotta earn that all on your own.
