My Samsung Gear S boots in 14 seconds. I use it for running so I don't have it on all the time. Found that for most situations a smart watch is not required but having map my run on the watch is awesome so I keep it charged and off until I need it. I think I would loose my mind if it took over a minute. Yes, I could wait, but don't want to.

Why would I care how long it takes to boot up. I'm never going to turn it off.

But that time does suck

Uh....how often are people expecting to fully turn off their watches?

Just for info...the in-store watches are connected to the iPads next to them so whatever the customer is doing with the watch the necessary info and details will appear on the iPad next to it so no doubt there's a lot more going on with the in-store watches than the standard retail versions.

And for what it's worth I checked out the Watch today for the first time and the UI was incredibly smooth and the screen clarity was off the scale...the marketing images do not do these things justice, I was more than pleasantly surprised!

Good to know. I'll take this anecdote over a YouTube video with zero context and that cuts off the iPad portion of this demo unit.

Not so much as to turn off but it shuts itself off when the battery dies, which should be quite often.

According to who? Once it's in reserve mode it's not going to die for the better part of a day...so who the hell wouldn't be plugging it in so often knowing that to the point where a full minute of startup becomes a "problem"?

Wow. I think the iphone 1 started quicker than that. Hopefully apple will go with an SSD for the apple watch 2 generation. ##

Just curious, but was that a joke about SSD? Do you think they are currently using a spinning disk inside right now? Hahaha! That would actually be very cool! :p

Dude we're not talking about manicured women's hands. The dude has like some kind of yellow fungus growing around his cuticle.

In Asian countries, they quite often eat with their fingers instead of cutlery. The guy probably didn't wash his hands well enough. I agree, though... yuck! haha

As for the watch's performance.... I'm shocked, but seems par for the course these days. Apple devices (AirPort routers, Apple TVs, now the Watch) take a long time to boot up!

And that Weather app not loading was quite an embarrassment, but maybe it requires a phone to be tethered to?

For what it's worth, Mashable's Watch review, on presumably a non-demo Watch loaded with the same software people will be getting and using on Friday, references the slow boot-up time: "My experience with the Apple Watch started off with disappointment. . . . It took quite a while to launch. . . . That long boot time set expectations super low, but everything else vastly exceeded them."

Then there's this bit: "I also never again had to restart the watch."

So long as the software isn't laggy and apps actually load, a slower boot time doesn't really bother me.

How often do you have to reboot the Gear S and why?

I'm sticking around for Gen. 2 or 3...

As a Pebble owner, yeah, I'm absolutely fine in waiting for a second or third gen Apple watch. If that's the interface speed it's pretty shoddy to launch with - no doubt it will be fixed in a firmware update though.

Switching the device off will be a useful way to prolong that short battery life, especially if you're staying overnight somewhere without a charger.

What's the big deal? 70 seconds every four or five months when a new OS update comes down?

I don't mind it took a minute to start up. I'm more concerned the Weather app never opened.

The display models are not synced to an iPhone, which is where the Watch gets all of its weather information from. Nearly every in-store review has stated this fact (although it seems to be a bit of a fail from Apple's side).

Being a one time event upon startup from off, I won't be affected. Plus I do expect there'll be some very festive bugs... It is after all, a first gen product without a track record.

It's just another micro computer...:)

Why would I wear something that actually boots up longer than my phone (and is probably sluggish as well) when there are better watches on the market right now? It's like a turtle vs. rabbit race.

Really? You're "sticking around" for gen 2/3? And here I was so afraid you were going to leave us before then. I'll inform the press.

I think you mean you're "holding out" for gen 2/3.
