If this is the very first boot, then it confirms we don't need an iPhone to start using it right away. I'm crossing my fingers.

I don't mind it took a minute to start up. I'm more concerned the Weather app never opened.

That was pretty awful and embarrassing (for Apple, that is). I mean, if I can't get the weather on it, how can I expect to use ApplePay, for example? If it's ultimately just a timepiece with iPod capability, then isn't it just an iPod shuffle? Didn't the already make one of those a few years ago, for a lot less money?

I don't know, but I'm starting to smell "G4 Cube" all over again. Looks pretty cool, but is anyone really going to buy one?

Can confirm that the demo units re-image after rebooting to easily undo any shenanigans that customers do with the devices.

Even a Mac Pro will take 4x longer to reboot in-store because of this. Spread the word.

They already have.

And for what it's worth I checked out the Watch today for the first time and the UI was incredibly smooth and the screen clarity was off the scale...the marketing images do not do these things justice, I was more than pleasantly surprised!

I felt very much the same way when I checked them out this weekend. UI was very fluid, smooth, and responsive. Screen looks fantastic. I'm far less pessimistic about the product now that I've used one a bit. It's a great iPhone value add. And it'll never be a truly standalone product for that reason.

In four days or so, these are going to start arriving on people's doorsteps, and the real-world use of them will begin. If you are unable to get the weather on it, or use ApplePay, but the majority of users do it with no problems, then it will be pretty awful and embarrassing for you, especially when people see that you're just using an iPod Shuffle strapped to your wrist.

The pre-orders are over, and they were phenomenal. Those who are waiting to see it in the real world have just a few more days to wait. I've no doubt that some people will have problems with the Watch. You should wait for real problems to take your stand. This one isn't going to cut it.

Switching the device off will be a useful way to prolong that short battery life, especially if you're staying overnight somewhere without a charger.
OR... you switch to Power Reserve mode, which lasts for several days and still displays the time when you need it to. ;)

Depends how frequently you need to check the time I'm sure :) I find that even in Airplane mode if I really need to prolong my iPhone's battery I have to switch it off overnight.

LOL, for your reference the Apple Watch (based on estimates) likely sold more in it's first day than total sales for the Cube's lifetime.

Hard to find a number, but Smalldog says a total of around 150,000 cubes were sold:

Points all taken. And as an Apple enthusiast, shareholder, and owner of pretty much every other product they currently make, I certainly hope I'm dead wrong. But, nonetheless, it's a little worrisome...that Weather thing was more than a little concerning. I mean, $500-$1,000 for an iPod Shuffle which doesn't work as quickly and can't give you the weather....it's really the FIRST time since the Newton that I haven't been an early Apple adopter.

Now, maybe it's just because I don't usually wear watches. And maybe it's because I've spent too many thousands on Apple products over the past year and my wife will walk out if I spring for this right now. But there's something about this particular product that just isn't hitting that excitement button inside of me the way the iMac, iPod, iPhone, MacBook Air and iPad have. I really hope you guys all LOVE your Apple Watches, and I'll be in line for the 2nd generation some time soon. But I think I need to see WHY I need this product in my life...how will my daily workflow and routine change for the better because of this product. What will I be able to do that I can't do now with everything else I own. Even when the iPad came out, and I already owned an iPhone, a MacBook Air and an iMac, I still was so excited to have something I could just hold in my hand, lying in bed, and do "all that stuff." The watch just seems....so small. Am I going to choose it preferentially to any of my other devices in any circumstance?

That's what I look forward to reading and hearing about. All of YOUR stories of how it's enhanced your lives! Then, I'll print it all out, show it to my wife, and run over to the Apple Store and BUY ONE!!! So, fellow Apple fans, PLEASE PROVE ME WRONG! SHOW ME WHY WE ALL NEED ONE OF THESE! I can't wait to read the stories!!! :D Reading posts here at MacRumors is the BEST way to get me psyched up for all things Apple, and there just aren't any real world examples of this yet...YET! So, I ask again, PLEASE SHARE YOUR EXPERIENCES, and I'll try to live vicariously through you. Thanks!

I've use Macs since '86, bought the first (of many) iPod, owned an iPad in 2010. How excited am I? Instead of this watch, I'm buying a 2011 MBP 17". The way Cook and Ive are running things, it might be the last Apple product I ever purchase.

I think many people are waiting before committing. When the Pre-orders are delivered we will get a much better idea of how things are working from a functional and performance point of view. No doubt the pre-order numbers will look good but the long term success will depend more on what happens after that.

I dropped by the Apple store in Covent Garden today while in the area to get my first look at the watch. I liked the look of it a lot and as others have said it is actually smaller than I thought it would be. However, what was really surprising is that there was one person doing a try on demo and apart from myself there were a couple of tourist looking at those in the cases.

Sounded like a good idea, but it appears that once the Apple Watch is switched to Reserve mode, the only way out is to reboot.

This is quite different from the low power modes of other smartwatches, which automatically come out of low power mode as soon as they recharge enough.

Oh well, an Apple Watch reboot is not that long a time in the overall scheme of things. Just inconvenient since it requires user intervention.

Has anyone timed a non-demo reboot yet?
